Why?
It's legible.

I see no problem.
It seems to me a little rude to make a comment like that without bothering to offering a reason why you think they're inadequate.
Personally I think you're wrong, but it's hard to arue when you don't even offer an argument...

Oh right, an argument...
I have to make a concious effort to follow the word balloons, which shouldn't have to happen.

right, ok, I actually know what you mean now.
I had actually noticed that, but I guess it's never affected my enjoyment enough to lodge in my memory.
But fair point. I dont think it's like that often enough to be a massive deal and I suspect it's a necessity based on the sheer volume of text that has to fit on each page (which I wouldn't give up for the world) and a visual balance favored with those balloons.
But, valid critiscm when you explained it.

I hadn't noticed. The only thing that bothers me is that the connecting trails between the balloons are a bit too thick.

I always dug the lettering in Powers, but there have been times in the earlier issues where it's hard to follow the balloons.

The lettering in these books bothered me, too. At least, in the first three volumes of trade, I haven't read anything else. It was really hard to follow, and often-times I had no idea who was talking. You shouldn't even have to put thought into that kind of stuff. It should just flow naturally but POWERS does anything but.

In the montly book, the lettering and balloons look extremely low-res, and anti-aliased (aliased? pixelated).
