Originally, the team - made up of a superneatural creatures (both human-looking and non), started life as an ashcan the two had on their tables at conventions. From there, a self-funded and published color comic. Earlier this year, the two's creation jumped to the big time, and saw a four-issue miniseries released from Dark Horse. Those who picked it up noticed something rather peculiar - the four issue story ended on one heck of a cliffhanger - the team's leader was bleeding to death, and their headquarters was overrun by carnivorous critters from another dimension.

In November, Dezago and Rousseau get a chance to tell what happens next with The Perhapanauts: Second Chances, a new four issue miniseries. We caught up with the creators for a chat.

Newsarama: So Dark Horse has tapped you guys for another go-round with the Perhapanauts...for a project that started as a pamphlet on your tables at cons - does this feel kind of good, not only to be at Dark Horse, but to be going back for another trip?

Todd Dezago: I can see where you would think that, but the truth is that it feels kind of scary. As you say, Craig and I have really been working on the Perhapanauts in one form or another since 2002, first as a black and white sketchbook-style comic, then as a limited edition ‘old school’ color special, and finally with the four issue miniseries from Dark Horse last year. But when you’re working so closely and intensely with such…unique characters as these for such a long time they tend to …grow and develop and take on a life of their own. I’m not kidding when I tell ya that they’ve started to tell me the stories we’re gonna tell, how they would react, what they’re gonna say! And they’ve got plans, man, plans that go on for another six or seven miniseries, easy!

The news of the Perhapanauts getting a second 4 issue series is music to my ears! The first series was excellent and the second one looks to be even better.

Todd's got a few of the covers Craig has done for the new series up on his blog (http://www.perhapanauts.blogspot.com). If the covers are any indication of the quality of the art that Craig is doing inside the book, this is going to be a fabulous looking series!
