Headline: Quasar dead, Nova defeated!
Subhead: Annihilus’ wave of terror unstoppable!
To: Peter Quill (personal log)
Report filed by: Peter Quill, Head Advisor of the United Front, second in command to Richard Rider (Nova).
Report Origin: Nycos Aristedes, 7 light-years away from the recently destroyed planet Xandar.
Source: Drax the Destroyer
In a desperate attempt to defend a planet wide space caravan from Annihilus’ forces, Nova (Richard Rider) created a massive stargate for the ships to escape through. Quasar, the human hero armed with the Quantum Bands, also helped by attacking on the oncoming fleet. Needing only 10 minutes for the caravan to move through the stargate, Nova and Quasar charged Annihilus’ fleet in what some reported as a suicide attempt.
Their battle lasted longer than anyone could have suspected and they managed to make their way into Annihilus’ flagship. But Annihilus was prepared for them...

dont know about defeat... strategic withdrawal?
That's what it seemed like when I read it... uhm.. i mean... when I accessed the feed from a dormant Xaaanifalarian war sattelite... (it that in character enough?)
Damn it, not Quasar. He was really unique amongst all the other heroes, very human, no killer instinct, sometimes a little dorky, a thought experiment of a Green Lantern who knew fear long before Kyle showed up. Lots more interesting than Wolverine if you ask me. And a whole lot easier to relate to.

When is this cosmic threat going to impact the rest of the Marvel universe?
I don't have the lowdown. I would appreciate it if anyone has any further info as to
how wide spread this will be.

These Annihilation books have been so much fun. Way more enjoyable than 52 or Civil War, IMO.
Annhilus has the cosmic bands? Yeah, screwed is the word.

Yeah, Quasar will be missed. :( But is he truly gone? In any case, I'm sure we'll see some kind of replacement eventually.

My theory on that ties in Civil War and Planet Hulk.... the heroes are going to be divided and pissed off at each other thru the results of all that has happened and will happen during the Civil War.... Super-Human relations amongst themselves will be at an all-time low... and that'll set up Earth for a butt-load of trouble because in one direction the Annihilation Wave is coming and in the other direction, the Hulk (with an army of friends in tow I bet) is coming home for some payback.... and THEN we'll really be in deep dooky!!

They should have killed Nova. He has been a useless character for years. I'd rather he go out with a bang than stay as lame as he has been.

Good theory. That would certainly make for a huge storyline for Marvel. Especially
with the new Kree storyline happening in the X-men titles. This would keep the Marvel
titles hot for quite awhile: and hopefully bring Warlock his balls back from his last mini series.

Annihilation has kicked some major ass so far,IMO.
As a fan of Nova since I was a wee lad I am soooooooooooooooo glad to see him finally get a chance to shine as the cosmic hero he should have always been.
Sad to see Quasar go but with the "return" of a Captain Marvel being hinted at it doesn't surprise me even though I had a feeling that he might have actually been the one to take up the mantle.
Hopefully once this is all said and done we'll get a new Nova series ste mainly in space.Richard Rider,IMO, is one of Marvel's greatest untapped resources and with the changes in Spidey's status quo he could easily fill the spot of Marvel's "everyman" but with a more cosmic bent.
Anyway, between this and CW and Planet Hulk, this has to be one of the coolest summers of Marvel Comics that I've read since the 70's.

Novas mini truly kicked ass, nothing but awesomeness, especially the first 2 issues where he got up out of the ice, mud and blood that was left of Xandar. :)
At first I was a bit hesitant, since I absolutely abhored Kev Walkers art in Chuck Austens Eternal ( maybe it was the taint of Austen...), but once I saw his work here it was almost as if he was a new artist! Very much improved, and a very enjoyable mini.
Also, it appeared as if Annihilus absorbed not only Quasars life-force into his cosmic control rod but the bands themselves. I think he'll be tapping into their power that way.
Cheers to Annihilation #1. :D

I lie awake at night hoping for this storyline. I would be most grateful for Hulk and his very cool band of losers to be the ones that wipe out Annihilus and Thanos when they head for Earth.
And if you have missed these mini's, you need to read them. The best to me were Nova and Silver Surfer (in which something happens so BIG - at least to me - it changes a forty year old plot point in the MU - that you should be there.)
Yes, and Adam Warlock please - what with Drax and Gamora in the mini's, and Moondragon (apparently) on the cover of Annihilation #1, I think my beloved Infinity Watch is due for a revival.....

Annihilation has been a wonderful event so far, I can only hope that the main series maintains so of the charm showed by the other mini series. I don't see it tieing in with CW or Planet Hulk though, I think they all end at different times, with CW ending before Annihilation.
As someone else said, Quasar could easily come back, he was absorbed, it isn't as if he got shot in the head and left on panel to rot.

Whoa. Didn't read Nova 4 yet, but Quasar's death isn't a huge shock. It's a shame, but apparently it is a death scene that has impact. I imagine we'll lose another cosmic hero in the upcoming mini series.
Overall, Annihilation has been a solid event. I enjoyed the Nova and Surfer portions the most -- jus wish the Nova series would have had a more mainstream style of artist.
Not crazy about the new Nova costume -- but it looks like DeVito will make it more palatable.
Giffen has been doing a good job with this -- makes me wonder what happened with Sucidie Squad and especially Fury's Howling Commandos (which had a great premise but a snooze of a storyline).

I cannot believe that you did not warn before announcing Quasar's apparent death, yes I see a logical for comics way to bring him back, that was wrong. This just came out last week. Sheesh, spoilers not an option anymore.
Death scene was cool, Rich and the Worldmind coming to an understanding is great.
This has been the best thing I have read from Marvel, WAY better than that War thing they have going on.
Great event story for the summer.

(Nerd Mode) First off, they're called the Quantum Bands.
They were Quasar's tools/weapons. They were apparently created by the Eon, the Guardian of Time. He gives them to his appointed Protectors of the Universe, of which Quasar was that last one.
The Q-bands can tap into the nearly limitless energy of the Quantum Zone. A dimension composed of nothing but light and energy. Quasar could use the bands to generate any kind of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. He could also use them absorb energy and shunt it into the Quantum Zone.
The Q-bands cannot manipulate or transmute physical matter, like turning a steel box into rubber. And they cannot manipulate magical energy.
Quasar could also use the bands to create objects made out of "hard light", similar to a Green Lantern. Depending on how much thought Quasar put into it, he could make objects as simple as a cube, to intricate body armor and large support bridges. He could also vary the density of the objects to as thin as rice paper, to as hard as adamantium.
The difference is that a Green Lantern needs will power to maintain the object. All Quasar needs is the time and concentration to form the object, and after he creates it, he doesn't have to stand there and maintain it. it will remain in place until Quasar removes it or it's destroyed by a superior power.
The Q-bands also enabled Quasar to fly, and create "Quantum Jumps", in which Quasar enters the Quantum Zone and exits at any point in the universe in just a few seconds.
The Q-bands can also augment the physical strength and durability of their wielder by channeling the energy internally. Although I don't believe Quasar ever made use of that power. But the previous owner of the Q-bands, the Golden Age Marvel Boy did use that power. (/Nerd Mode)

Somehow I three times will be the charm.
Writers have not been able to get a handle on him for years.
That's the real reason for his space exile.
I always liked the character going way back to his Project Pegasus days in Marvel Two-In-One.
He will be missed.
On the brighter side, Nova looks to be positioned to become a major player in the MU after all these years.
Clearing the New Warriors decks with Civil War was another part of this re-positioning.

It was great to get some new Nova tales even if just for a short while.
I was scared that they might decide to end the book in a bang by killing Nova, but as it turns out, it is Quasar that was killed.
Hopefully the mini-series did well enough that we may get some more Nova goodness in the future.
We shall see.

How is the word "stargate" not trademarked?
Trademarks can only be applied to distinguish the products or services of one group from another. Since no one has actually created a working stargate yet, the word can't be trademarked.
So Quasar's dead. I can't really say that I'm surprised that he was killed off; he was one of those 'old' Avengers. It's too bad though; he was an interesting character.
Other than Quasar's impending demise, Annihilation thus far has been really great. Between it and Planet Hulk, I'm finally getting some cosmic titles from Marvel that I'm digging. Good stuff.

Marvel sucks.
Wendell and Kl'rt were some of my favorite heroes, The Warriors one of my favorite tems...and now?
dead.
deceased.
no longer amongst the living.
That is an EX-Parr--um, those are deceased heroes who were tossed out with nary a thought to their true fans.
(ok, Nita's new "look" sucked too, maybe that's HER "out"?? pretty please?)
btw, EPOCH still exists in the Q-Bands, Eon died some time ago.
Wendy was killed to make room for the new(est) Cap Marvel?
without Q, we would never have gotten Legacy aka Genis aka Cap Marvel #37 aka Photon #3 aka ...um, so maybe something good came out of GENIS' "death".
maybe we'll get lucky, Wendy will be okay, but he gives the Q-bands to Rich, and Rich is double the rouble to galactic menaces after this!
(oh, and Rich's new costume SUCKS to!)
okay, what about Kl'rt getting the Q-bands?
Kl'rt and Wendell were the only two reasons I was going to check this series out in tpb, but now it looks like I can save my money. :(
and with some people asking after Adam Warlock, has Her/Kismet been seen lately?

I loved Quasar, I really did, but the sheer awesomeness of that death scene made it a little better. Annihilus is 10 times the villain he was for the moment alone.
"You. Don't. Get. To. Choose."
It was a brutal death, and usually, when a hero gets force-fed to a villain to make him seem more evil or what, it usually backfires, but this time, it worked. I know have nightmares of a giant pink and green grasshopper with bat-wings.

And in the last time, his assigned seat in the afterlife of Eon's protectors, the White Room, was taken by the still-living Blue Marvel. Since he's dead, and his chair is filled, that means any writer worth his salt knows Wendell is still capable of making a comeback...
