View Full Version : RUMORKILLER: X-STATIX NOT CANCELLED

Quashing things in the bud, despite having gone missing from Marvel’s solicitations for the month of May, X-Statix is not cancelled. The two-issue Wolverine/Doop miniseries (both issues shipping in May) will replace the ongoing series for that month.
“We may periodically interrupt the regularly scheduled programming with Doop-centric specials,” editor Axel Alonso told Newsarama. “X-Statix is back in June, with issue #11. We've got two huge arcs planned that are certain to raise some eyebrows.”

great news! this is marvel's best non-bendis book and i would hate to see it go!

Indeed!
X-STATIX really hit a slump when the relaunch started, but, in all fairness, I think it was a result of the logical progression of the story hitting at the worst possible time.
After the death of "you-know-who" everyone was in a huge funk (fans and characters alike), and as a result the tone of the book was somber and depressing... and that's not necessarily the best way to relaunch a manic book such as X-FORCE/X-STATIX.
Either way, the title has been picking-up a lot of steam lately... thank goodness!

I just finished reading the X-Force hardcover last week and I was distressed to hear that X-Statix might get cancelled. I'm glad to hear it's not true. My hope is that Marvel has enough faith in it to give us an X-Statix hardcover before the end of the year. I'd be first in line to pick it up.

Im sorry but this must be me, but why Doop-centered stories? Is he that interesting?
And speaking of which, does anyone remember what Quesada said about the x-line when he became EIC? I think he doesnt...

First of all, I'll be dumping X-Statix with the price increase. Second, no amount of "eyebrow raising" hype is going to make me change my mind. Third, if Marvel is trying to make their books accessible to the all important Barnes and Noble crowd then what are civilians supposed to make of Doop. Should they seek out the decoder and figure out what the heck he's saying? Hell! I'm not part of the trade crowd and I can't even be bothered to do that.
In closing, $2.99? Not on my time.

Simple Question: I'm getting X-Force and X-Statix via the TPBs.
Is Wolverine/Doop going to be collected between issues 10 and 11 of X-Statix in a future TPB?
Jorge
PS: No, I'm not going to buy the monthly. Can't stand the ads between story pages....

Marvel has been pretty good about collecting the "misc" story-arcs into trades of some sort, so I'm sure it would appear *somewhere* in TPB form.
As far as Doop goes, I was very resentful of all of the Doop-based hype at first, but by the end of the first X-FORCE story-arc I was beginning to see what all of the hype was about.... and by the end of X-STATIX #1 I was very intrigued. I think that there may indeed be a lot more going on behind those pink little eyes than a lot of people initially expected...
As for the Doop decoder... well, it *IS* in the first TPB. Look harder. :p

It took me a long time, just with trial and error, but I finally figured it out. After all that work, I then realized that there was a decoder right there on the first page!

I've found that the one time I attempted to translate Doop's words that the letters in his balloons didn't match those in the decoder. Maybe Star Trek shouldn't have put subtitles under Klingon speech so people could learn Klingonese and figure it out for themselves, too.

doop rules people, and i'm sent here to preach the DOOP-LOVE!!!
mike Allred has confirmed that the title isn't in any sort of cancelllation danger and all is fine, and i'm looking forward to the new storylines! Doop is quickly gaining iconic status in the marvel u. and it's the only new marvel character to acheive that since the 80s! as for the doop translator i can email it to anyone who wants, contact me through sfex_istis@hotmail.com :)

But, Wolverine is a stellar seller, they say. It's a brand name, and isn't XM2 comming in may? Might have that wrong, but what the hey.
Another thing that Quesada has said, and this is from memory, is that they will do mini-series, as long as they are good, well, we'll be the judge of that, but they have done it before, with X-treme X-Men/X-pose was excactly the same thing. Stop the regular for and issue or two, and put out an mini with ties into the series somehow.
I'm guessing this also ties into the minimum-subplot-policy Marvel seem to have these days. As a story can be told seperatly without running the course of a year or two.

I feel like X-statix has really lost its edge since the relaunch, or rather, since issue #4. It just doesn't seem to care anymore, like it's running on autopilot, and that's saddening because the book was once amazing. I'll stick with it for now, but I don't know how much longer

some genious commented about Quesada's remarks on the "X-books" when he became EIC. That person obviously missed the fact that Joe was talking about superfulous X-books; i.e. Gambit, Bishop, Generation X, X-force, X-cetera

Glad to hear that the future looks good for
X-Statix. this week's "Lying in the Gutters" column made out that it might be on the cancellation list. Which I found odd considering it sells about 30,000 copies per month, which should be at least a comfortable 10,000 above the cancellation mark.

X-Statix is the best book Marvel puts out. And THEY BETTER FUCKING NOT CANCEL IT. In my store it sells about 50% MORE than Uncanny. This is just from shoving the first TPB into peoples' hands in the store and forcing them to read some. Even fanboys that don't appreciate Allred's style buy it after that.
This thing with Xavier's "special" suits for Venus has been hilarious!

I wouldn't say I am a fanboy, but I do enjoy the series, without the decoder. Why do you assume that the "civilian, non-fanboy, Barnes and Nobles crowd" would be unable to enjoy the series just because they may not be regular comic shop buyers or readers?
I don't go to the opera, but I do like to hear the music sometimes. I think equating a person who isn't into something normally, doesn't necessarily mean that they can't enjoy it sometimes.

BTW, Exiles is part of Marvel's "mainstream" mutant books. People tend to forget this since the series exists outside X-continuity. Of course, this would explain why this is the only mutant book I regularly buy.
You know, if I were more cynical, I'd think Quemas were cranking tons of mutant books to flood comic racks and leave less room for competitors' books.

I've done that since the series started, but as I said I will be dropping it when the book goes to $2.99. Not understanding what Doop says is a variation on only hearing a punchline and seeing everyone's reaction to it. After a while it's not funny anymore. Hardcore fans may take the time to translate Doop's words or learn Klingonese, but I don't think civilians would.
I stand by my accessibility comments, though. Quesada said that was the reason they downplayed continuity. I picked up Ultimate War(dumped it after two issues)and there were references in that book that any person who wasn't reading Ultimate X-Men, of which I'm one, wouldn't know what they were talking about. Heaven forbid they put in a footnote or something. Then, after the mini is over, the story continues in Ultimate X-Men. So much for self contained storytelling.

I read Joe's comments about how the Ultimate War story would be 'self contained', and I was surprised that it spun off into the Ultimate X-Men comic.
But, I disagree about your comments asking why someone who wasn't reading Ultimate X-Men (Or even the Ultimates for that matter) would be a bit lost reading the Ultimate War. The mini features two teams from two comics. Why would you assume that if you didn't read one of the titles, that you would get what is going on when references are made to the title that you don't read.
****Completely fabricated example to follow*****
If there was a mini series that feaured The Fantastic Four, and the Defenders, and I only read the Fantastic Four, I would expect to be a bit lost on some issues, being that I wasn't a reader of The Defenders.
________________________________
But, Again, I do agree on the point that Joe did say that this mini would be self contained, so I can see your point about accessability, but not regarding a title that I didn't read.
