You may not be getting to the comic shop for a little while today, so consider this your teaser trailer, and incentive for high-tailing it to the store as soon as you can. DC has provided Newsarama with an inside peek at a handful of key panels from this week's 52 #1, showing the tone, as well as some of the key characters who will be appearing in the series. Additionally, today Newsarama will be kicking off our 5.2 About 52 - a weekly chat with 52 editor Steve Wacker about that week's issue, the creators, the characters, the DC Universe, and anything else the weekly series touches upon.
And of course, readers will have the opportunity to ask Wacker questions during the run.
Look for the inaugural edition of our chats with Wacker later today. In the meantime…

I'm avoiding all these teasers, reading all those for the first issue of civil war lessened the impact for when I actually read it for real.

Love the idea of a weekly series that is dedicated not to a single hero but the overall DC universe and the rebuilding taking place. Something like this should have been done after the original Crisis. Maybe that would've helped avoid some of the continuity problems that followed.

*yawn* That's pretty much my reaction after Crisis. Come to think of it I probably should get around to ordering the 7th issue and finishing the rather boring series.
So burnt out on X-overs and these mega-events. Ah well won't stop me from buying some of the forthcoming good comics like the Bat titles and JLA that are coming out.
But this? *Yawn* And yes I'm posting just to express my dismay. At least if they had focused on particular character per issue or something I might have been interested in some of the issues that focused on the characters I liked. Since, this pretty much focuses on all but one character I have no interest in, guess I'll wait for tpb and even then I may lose interest in a year.
Well, it's not as if there aren't other books by Morrison and Johns to buy, so I'll survive!

I'm a big fan of the Question, so I'll check the first 4 weeks out. Hopefully they do something cool with him. If not, 52 issues is WAY too big a commitment for me. It better not be one page dedicated to the Question every 2 or 3 issues or something like that. But all in all, 52 looks really interesting, and I wonder where it will go once we're a few months into it.

This is going to be a great TPB when it finally comes out a year or so from now. I can wait 'til them.

It's a wholly different approach to a comic than buying it for your 'favorite characters' , its doing something a bit original, a bit different, expanding and exploring not just characters but the whole dc universe for a year, and any idea for a new format is great IMO.

I think 52 is going to be the epic story that INFINITE CRISIS should have been. There were so many scenes in IC that needed to be fleshed out instead of an inserted page here and there, so 52's 52-issue format should more than take care of that particular problem.
Now, I just hope it doesn't come off as "decompressed" padding...

Any speculations on who is writing which characters? I know it probably is not as easily divided in that manner given the organic nature of the project, but I understand is that each of them has their favourite characters.
I'm thinking Montoya and The Question are Rucka's, Elongated Man would be Mark Waid probably, Black Adam definately Geoff John's given the fact that he developed him so much during JSA, as for Grant Morrison he's written Steel before in the pages of JLA.

I love the fact that there is room in the self contained world of 52 to explore and develop these C and B list characters. The problem of something like Infinate Crisis is that there are so many characters, that it's essentially hard to service them all without branching off into all the crossover issues and ultimately the main appeal for me is the Where's Waldo aspect of IC.

I'm really pleased to see some of my favourite characters get the spotlight - esp. Ralph and Booster.
I'm pumped about this - though I won't see this until early June (when my monthly shipment comes in).
Although, that means I get to read four issues at a time... I bet that will only enhance my experience... though I might have to avoid this site for fear of spoilers.

While Infinite Crisis was to me not what it should have been--which is at least 10 issues or twelve like the original--DC--how the hell could you guys have crammed this series like that???? Ugh. :( And the art just got worse issue by issue. Again I ask--what was it that Jiminez got paid for??? And he wanted to pay homage to Perez how???? Hell, I would have been happier to see Perez and Ordway draw this series by themselves(They could have handled it, and we would have seen more consistant art). 52 SHOULD be a much better series just for the fact that it is coming out weekly. Please I so hope this does not suck.
This is going to be a great TPB when it finally comes out a year or so from now....The Cerebus phone books will wind up being lighter and thinner, kids. Probably cheaper, too.

Perhaps 52 will cover all that was missed due to the cramming of info in Infinite Crisis that everyone is talking about.

I think 52 will make up for what IC screwed up,
@ PreCrisisDC: I totally agree with you I think Jiminez got in a bit over his head and I was let down a bit Perez and Ordway would've knocked this one out of the park with no problems at all

I might try an issue or two of this, but this is clearly built for the die-hard "I go to the comic shop every Wednesday" crowd, of which I'm... not a member of. So I'll probably miss the first few issues entirely if it's a hit.

I am so hyped about 52. I hope it doesn't fall off in content as it gets deeper into the series. I am sure it will be just like 24, where some issues (episodes) are much weaker than the whole. Can't wait to see.

I was looking foward to this series and was a little disappointed by the first issue, but I'll give a chance to get going before I come down with a final opinion. My biggest gripe was seeing characters alive that were killed during Infinite Crisis.
Sigh. The continuity problems have already started.

Was that new preview actual consecutive pages? If so, 52 makes no sense. It must just be random panels...right?

Unlikely, since 52 has to cover a whole week of events each issue--doing flashbacks would take up too much time, and would be a bit counterproductive to the feel of the series as a whole.

For a weekly comic - this looks very well put together. Meaning, art and coloring, really, as I haven't run to the shop yet to pick it up. From what I have seen, DC has really poured quality into this series. Visually, it's already exceeding expectations.
Looking forward to the series as a whole!

Great characters, great concept, great writers, great artists, great covers. Plus, it's weekly. I'm buying the crap out of this.
I wonder if they're going to keep Montoya drunk for the entire year. Maybe drinking is her secret superpower.

Could be, but Keith Giffen, who I believe is doing breakdowns for the series (a cool move, imo), is never shy about employing the nine panel grid in his work.

I am looking forward to the series btu I've wondered: each issue is suppsoed to take place within a week time. So when does the week start? Sunday, Monday, Wednesday? Will we see Memorial Day in Week 3 or 4? And why is this so damn important that I have to ask? Ahh, forget it.

I canīt wait too. Thatīs why reading it today. :D
One thing I love about manga is that it is weekly. The monthly wait in american comics drags the reading down a bit. And with dc is even worse, since thereīs no such thing as "In last issue..." page.
With 52 all this problems are fixed! Kudos DC and good luck on the schedule!

Just read it and my initial reaction is - "wow - I haven't read anything like this for years and years".
The book jumps around so much (days of the week, different cities and countries) but it still flows and most importantly, nobody is out of character for thier situations (with one Ralph exception imo).
As much as Ralph, Booster, Question, Montoya, etc are supposed to be the stars, this book REALLY is about the entire DCU.
And the best part - I only have to wait ONE WEEK for the next issue.

random panels really have less of a teaser effect than full pages, I must say. Just feels disjointed.

Now, after the first issue, is each issue going to focus on just one of the characters (ie, it's a rotation, issue A focuses on character X, then issue B focuses on character Y, and so on), or is each issue going to feature all the characters?

When ever one says infinite crisis should be long, isn't it true that it was the same size as crisis on infinite earths? Sure 'crisis on' had 12 issues, but two were double sized, making 14. Whilst all of the infinite crisis's 7 issues were double sized. I heard that somewhere a while back, isn't that true?

And while I love and I mean love Q and BG (and their books) I need to point out Steel had an ongoing that lasted more than theirs. He's an accomplished and useful member of the JLA and the Superman family. He's a genius, an inventor who could be compared to Iron Man in a way. And he has a lot of potential to be explored and used, just like the other five.

I got back into regular comic reading way too late to check out Infinite Crisis...I'll probably check it out at some point when the TPB hits.
I'm not really much of a DC fan--make mine Marvel--and I usually only buy books relating to the Batman family, but 52 sounds really unique and, if done properly, could be fascinating. Can't wait to check it out when I hit the comics shop in a couple hours...
Steel?
And I presume a new Crimson Fox? Or Steel Fox, perhaps. John's daughter, or someone else?
