This isnt Campbell's first Megacon appearence. We'd all like to forget his temper tantrum at the last one he attended (1999, I believe), but just thought I'd throw that in....

Not a bad guest list so far. I might go just to see Ethan.

Wow, I'd like to hear about that tamper tantrum.

I look forward to this even if there is absolutly no chance of actually seeing Michael Roesnbaum, the lines are always massive. Still some good people on this list

OOO you have really peaked my interest regarding J Scott Campbell's temper tantrum. Is there any way you can elaborate on what had specifically happened? It might help to see what ticked him off if I ever happened to meet him (if ever).

Long story short fans got mad at him, so he got mad at the fans. Dont really want to bring up stuff that old, most of it happened at crawlspace.com. Keep in mind I didnt witness the actual event, I witnessed the aftermath. My wife however did, and if you want more info you can contact me via email and i'll let you know the skinny, so to speak.

Somebody pointed me in the direction of this thread and I couldn't help but reply:

I really have no idea what this person is talking about. I have never in my life thrown a "Temper Tantrum" as the poster so quaintly put it. The only thing I can even vaguely remember about my previous appearance at this convention was that there was a miscommunication one of the days I was there in regards to when a signing was supposed to start. I was told one time and the signing schedule had printed a different time. I was therefore late to one of my signings and it was unfortunate. These things happen. If fans were in turn upset with me they certainly didn't show it and I certainly wouldn't ever take my anger out on the fans. Everybody seemed to have a good time when I was there and nobody threw a fit or seemed at all disappointed.

That story of yours is a complete and total fabrication.

Thankyou,

J. Scott Campbell

Word! That's cool how Campbell defended himself. Maybe Abbie Chase intercepted that message and sent it to him????

"respect those before you!

Ahhh. Total and complete fabrication. Okay. Well, considering that I saw it happen on Crawlspace (and so did Matt and Clay, remember them, Mr. Campbell?) and so did many others, I guess their recollections are fabrications as well.

Just because you're memory doesnt serve you well, doesnt mean it didnt happen.

"With fans like these, who needs enemies? No wonder Joe Mad doesnt do conventions anymore!"

-J. Scott Campbell, Crawlspace.com, 1999

[quote]Word! That's cool how Campbell defended himself.

Word? What is this, 1993? Defending himself would be to accuratly portray what happened. He didnt defend himself, he accused me of lying (which is par for course with this guy, he did it to every poster at Crawlspace who complained about Megacon as well..called each and every one of them a liar to). And really, all he had to go on was this from me:

[quote]Long story short fans got mad at him, so he got mad at the fans

How can a guy call my story a fabrication when I didnt even tell the whole story here on the MB's? Parnoid much, Mr. Campbell? But then again, what do you expect him to say: "Yes, I"m a rude sonafabitch to fans that dont kiss my ass?" Come on! Of course anything I say to the contrary is going to be called a fabrication..the guy is to arrogant to admit he was being a brat. He was 3 years ago, he is today. I'll give him this much though: At least he showed up. Joe Mad was a no show.

Fact is, he barely remembers it. Well, Me, My wife, and every damn poster remembers it. Perhaps he'd like us to forget? Well, no. I didnt forget Todd McFarlane's hissy fit, I will not forget Campbell's either.

Well, Anthony, it sounds like you're throwing a bit of a temper tantrum now. You seem like a pretty angry young man.

In regards to you accusations, you're right, you didn't tell us the whole story, and that is why your tale is weak and unbelievable. Your story lacks the details or any other specific information that typically give these kinds of accusations at least some credibility. Face it Anthony, you've made a poor case and someone called you on it.

Actually, It seems that the one thing that made you the most upset wasn't anything that happened at the Florida convention at all but instead something I said to a handful of spiteful internet posters on the Crawlspace message board 100 years ago. I don't necessarily deny that I said something like this, but if I did, it was certainly never meant to all of my fans and was probably specific to some hostile thread in regards to some kind of angry witch hunt because one of my books was late or something. Long story short, you're taking one random quote, taking it out of any kind of context, and blowing it way out of proportion. My point Anthony; Let it go.

Best,

J. Scott Campbell

You didnt call me on anything, Mr. Campbell. And believe me, i'm not upset at you at all. I'd have to be a fan of yours to be upset at you. At the time this happened, I didnt collect your work. Although you have done some pieces that have caught my eye, on the whole i've never had the desire to pick your stuff up.

Lets go back over my original post, shall we?

[quote]Long story short fans got mad at him, so he got mad at the fans. Dont really want to bring up stuff that old, most of it happened at crawlspace.com. As you can clearly see, I told everybody that I didnt want to post things on message boards that were so old. It isnt worth it. I was trying to keep this from turning into a Campbell bashing. YOU instigated further discussion on the subject, Mr. Campbell. I tried to curtail it to emails if anybody was interested. And I got some replies. Big deal. It was a minor thing, and I explained that to the people who bothered to email me.

YOU, Mr. Campbell, came in here and called me a liar. YOU, Mr. Campbell, insisted that I was making it up. Why would I make something up? I dont get up in the morning and say: "Gee, what obscure creator can I make shit up about today?"

I have no reason to lie, Mr. Campbell. You've taken a situation that happened years ago and insisted to expound upon it on Newsarama. And yet again, like you did back then, you start attacking and dismissing people. Instead of actually being mature about it, and thinking that perhaps maybe...JUST MAYBE you may have been in the wrong, you turn it around by saying i'm throwing the fit here (LOL) and blowing it off as
[quote]something I said to a handful of spiteful internet posters on the Crawlspace message board 100 years ago. Well, no Mr. Campbell, it's your overall attitude to your friends and supporters that have made you obscure in today's market. You're once shining star is gone thanks to your unprofessional attitude about, well, damn near everything. Hell, this posting of yours is par for course on your overall attitude.

Let it go, Mr. Campbell? I've let it go..because it doesnt affect me. I'm not a fan of yours. Never was. Never will be. I made a comment. Some people responded. And just like you did three years ago, you come in here to "set the record straight" and try to be clever.

I dont post the whole story because I dont need to, Mr. Campbell. I made a comment. Why dont YOU LET IT GO.

Because you cant. Because you know what i'm saying is true. And the more I talk about it, the more it's coming back to you. That fuels your need to respond, Mr. Campbell.

In the end, it's my word against yours, true. But then again, I have no reason to lie. You have every reason to.

Jeff, Anthony - both of you just walk away. As much fun as it may be to some, it's doing no one any good to continue this.

Got it?

Don't worry Matt, I certainly do not intend to draw this matter out any further. I just thought I owed it to the promoters of the Mega Con and my fans to deny such allegations before a thread like this spiraled too far out of control. I get very passionate when it comes to attacks on my character, but I had hoped that my replies would could come off as civil and reasonable. In any regard, I think that I got my point across. And I agree that this discussion now seems to be taking an even dirtier turn with even more personal attacks directed at me, so I will avoid any temptation to get in any final jabs. This will be my final post on the matter.

Best wishes,

J. Scott

I'm sorry it came to all this, really. I wanted to keep it off the boards and through emails. Unfortunatley it didnt turn out that way. Either way, I wish Mr. Campbell the best of luck in the future.

Hey everyone!
Thought I would point out that Richard Biggs isn't a first-time guest. He was at the 2001 show. Was going to be at the 2002 show with Jason Carter, but was double-booked.
Biggs and Carter are great together at a show. Too bad Jason doesn't seem to be joining him next year. Their Biggs & Carter Experience is something any B5 fan should check out.

I went to Mega Con last year and it was a lot of fun. I'd like to go again this year but it looks like it's just going to be all the same people again. No reason to go really unless I can get some new autographs. I mean, meeting comics creators is great, but let's get somebody NEW!

Marvel and DC don't seem to support this Con much. Is it because it's owned by CrossGen?
