Featuring the debut of a powerful new villain, Ms. Marvel #2 continues Brian Reed and Roberto De La Torre’s reintroduction of Ms. Marvel as one of the premiere superheroes in the Marvel Universe.

Comiccritique.com says, “Ms. Marvel #1 was a solid book that I think could easily be a five star series…Carol Danvers is finally getting the respect she deserves.”

Combine an amazing creative team, glowing reviews AND a gorgeous cover by Frank Cho and Ms. Marvel #2 is one issue that has it all.
Click here for the full previews...

Agreed, except for that page where you can see like twenty planets and their moons. I mean, come ON. What's wrong with just leaving it a frickin' star field, people?!

On an aside, what does it matter what the background looks like? I don't get it.

Well, it's part of the art. And it looks ludicrous. It ruins the page for me.
Nevermind that it was done in Photoshop, so it looks jarring, but me, I kind of like it when superhero books are set against a reasonably realistic backdrop, and there is no place in the universe (outside of Infinite Crisis) with that many planets that close together.

I agree with you and, while I don't mind a whole lot, sometimes I kinda miss the old days when the artists didn't have photoshop. :D

Yeah, it looks kinda silly to me too...
Besides that, this book is feeling more and more like one of those we will be looking back on very fondly over the years...
Then I could be wrong, of course. Let's wait and see.
Is car throwing going to be a running theme in this series? Because that'd be awesome.

April 12th?!?!?! I have to wait until April freaking 12th?!?!?!
This book should be weekly. Seriously I've loved the 1 1/4 issues we've gotten so far that much.
April ____ing 12th. That's just mean.

I see that Ms. Marvel, much like Supergirl, suffers from over-long torso.
Oh well, I pre-ordered this, hope it's cool. Action looks nice, and appart from slight anatomy issues, the artwork looks nice as well.

I wonder if they will play up Ms. Marvel's X-Men ties in this book. I know the brood are showing up but I kinda wanna see more. She spent alot of time hanging out with those crazy mutants. I personally allways wanted her to join that team.

On the plus side at least she has some meat on her bones. She's not the paper thin, anorexic, paris hilton wanabee waif that they turned Supergirl into.
I especially enjoy the Cho cover, that man actually draws women with what looks like real curves to me.

I just hope they can keep Frank Cho doing the covers past issue 6.

Carol Danvers is the Kevin Bacon of the Marvel Universe. You can connect her to virtually any character in six or less steps. Seriously. Anyone who doubts me, throw out a name, and I'll bet you I can do it.
That being said, I sincerely doubt, if this book continues on, Reed will be able to ignore Carol's various ties. Dan Slott, who doesn't even write her in any book, is including her in either SHE-HULK or THE THING in June (according to the solicitations), but bringing her back into Ben's poker games (Something she hasn't done since MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE and MARVEL FANFARE back in the 80's).
And, I would call Carol an 'unofficial' ex-X-Man. She never got a cover declaring "Welcome to the X-Men Carol Danvers - Hope you Survive the Experience!" But she did appear in the majority of the issues from UNCANNY X-MEN #158 - #171, and not just as a background character. She went on missions with them and fought alongside them. It's clear that Carol didn't consider herself part of the team when Rogue showed up, but I think from the way Storm(?) spoke to her in that issue that the others did.

The Runaways -disbanded and put into foster care by Captain America who served on the Avengers with Carol Danvers. (2)
Magnus (the robot) - Do you mean Magus, as in Warlock's father? Because I can't find a robot named Magnus. If so, Magus fathered Warlock who Bonded with Cypher who dated Kitty Pryde who was an X-Man with Wolverine who has a business and romantic connection to Carol Danvers. (5)
Hub - You're going to have to give me some leeway here. I didn't read the 2004 EXCALIBUR until the HOUSE OF M lead in. . .so, assuming there was some interaction between Hub and:
Xavier who helped Carol Danvers recover after Rogue's attack. (2)
Magneto who is the father of Scarlet Witch who was an Avenger with Carol Danvers. (3)
Calisto who was a rival of Storm who was an X-Man with Rogue who almost killed Carol Danvers. (4)
Unus who fought Marvel Girl who was romantically linked to Wolverine who has a relationship with Carol Danvers. (4)
If none of those work, give me a little more context.
Thorn - Villain of the Punisher who served with Daredevil in Marvel Knights. Daredevil was once bodyguarded by Jessica Jones who is a friend of Carol Danvers (4)
Collective Man - fought the Hulk who is cousins with Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) who served on the Avengers with Carol Danvers (3)
Doop - has an undisclosed relationship with Wolverine who is one of Carol's best friends. (2)
Speedball - Served on the New Warriors with Rage who served on the Avengers with Captain America who served on the Avengers with Carol Danvers. (3)
How's that?

The whole dozens of planets in a scene thing comes from the Kirby cosmic era. Personally I agree that a more realistic starfield would be much more visually appealing.

If, as the TV promo seems to imply, the public knows Carol Danvers is Ms. Marvel why does she still wear a mask?

Rick Jones didn't want to share Captain Marvel's body and Carol Danvers did.:D
As for the preview - the first issue was so so for me. I've pre-ordered #2 but unless it wows me I won't be back ordering #3.
This preview doesn't wow me. Apart from the much discussed photoshop mess what I didn't care for was just how long Carol waited before going into action against the brood.
I know that the time between panels can be nanoseconds or years - but the way the art flows leads me to feel that looong seconds go by while she just watches the Brood attack. It's not until someone cries for help that she bolts in to the rescue. Didn't feel right to me.

Remember tho', from issue #1 - Carol was shot out of the sky and knocked unconscious by the fall. She wasn't 'all there' when she woke up and saw the Brood running wild. It took her a few seconds to steady herself.
Remember also what happened the last time Carol went against them. They have a history, and its not a pretty one. Honestly, putting her up against The Brood this early on is rather cruel on Reed's part.

The art does looks great (i didn't mind the
moons/planets & I love Kirbyesque stuff),
but I found these preview pages to be
'average' in terms of content. And while I do
enjoy Carol's meaty thighs, I always look
for a story with a hook. Having said that,
I've always loved the Brood since day one,
so I 'might' give this series a shot, if it turns
into something more than throwing cars.

Some of you who have nitpicky points are making somewhat valid points at that. But the series is looking nice, and in just reading the story and seeing where the plot is going, I'm having fun. This new series is what comics should be all about.
Still, Jack Kirby and even John Byrne have taken liberties with what is lying out there in outer space with the planets and all, so let's give the new guy some leeway too.
Now, for that challenge with the characters:
Swamp Thing
Kid Eternity
Bouncing Boy
Ambush Bug
Lobo
(Hey, you said any characters. You didn't mention from which universe.)

oh! oh! let me try!
carol danvers knows wolverine (see above). wolverine joined/fused with batman during those godawfull amalgam
comics awhile back. batman knows ambush bug; ambush bug met sandman in, what i believe was the last ambush bug special. i assume all those other characters sleep so sandman knows 'em.
that is 5 steps, does that count? there may be more direct ways but i don't really know the dc universe too well, and more importantly i don't really care.

Yeah, I did. "Carol Danvers is the Kevin Bacon of the Marvel Universe".
But if you want to press the issue, just connect any of the above characters to Batman is 5 or less steps.
Batman and Wolverine were the Amalgam Universe's Dark Claw, and Dark Claw was partners with the Amalgam Universe's Huntress, who was. . . you guessed it: Carol Danvers!

In UNCANNY X-MEN (Circa #161 - 169), the X-Men (and Carol, if you don't count her as a member) were kidnapped by The Brood. The entire team were infected with Brood eggs, and Carol was taken and experimented on. The Brood were fascinated by her mutated genetic structure. Their experiments eventually led to Carol becoming Binary.

Alf had adventures with the Echh Men, who had a Melmac version of the Mutant super hero Rogue who attacked and almost killed Carol Danvers.

I don't read THING, so I must claim ignorance of Dan Slott's comments in this matter. However, isn't using a character like Ben Grimm . . .well, cheating?
You could make a similar claim with Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain America or The Hulk. But really, where's the challenge there? The fun? The Thing, on average, has made at least one appearance every month since his debut in 1961. At least. At times, he's had his own book, starred in MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE, appeared in Cross-Over books (SECRET WARS), and today is appearing in FANTASTIC FOUR, THE THING and MK4.
Conversely, Carol, who has been around almost as long as The Thing (1961 vs. 1967) has had considerably less appearances, making it not only more fun to connect her with any Marvel Universe character (and in some cases, characters outside the MU!), it makes it more impressive. Its why the 'real' game is played with Kevin Bacon, and someone a little more prolific.
