Mike Carey could produce some really good work on FF. I liked his two issue fill-in story quite a bit. But I haven't really seen him do much in tone to indicate he can carry the excitement over from the Millar/Land run, which is quickly climbing onto the same platform as the Lee/Kirby and Byrne FF runs. I hope his approach is a little more energized than the subtle work I've usually seen him do.

Agreed, I have no idea what they are thinking letting a guy like Loeb anywhere near a great title like The Ultimates. I guess Joe never read Hush, Superman/Batman or Supergirl. :(

Maybe the job could lead to Pascual getting work on Ulitmate Silver Surfer. Hmm, for most people supporting artists who are already doing well for themselves is pretty far down the list of worthy causes. Maybe you could try, y'know, supporting the poor? :)

I hate when Ultimate titles get cartoony artists, ultimate should be more adult wit realistic artists. Ultimate X-men lost its greatness when Immonen took over penciling!!! (It annoys me)

So UFF are DEAD to me.
After I read Ultimate X4 I puked for about an hour!
The writing sucked and surprisingly so did the art.
UFF was always the least interesting Ultimate-Title to me, but Millar managed to sell this book to me. But Carey and Ferry??? Well let´s quote the biggest boxer of all time here: "You´re out sucka!"
Ultimate Spider-Man sounds good, for the first time in about 60 issues. I´ll buy that (trade).

So no additional projects for Millar in the Ultimate Universe are announced at this time? That is really too bad because I consider Millar one of the two Principal architects (along with Bendis) in the Ultimates Universe and after Fantastic Four and Ultimates 2 wraps up I would be dissappointed if Millar were taking a break from it.

Why does Marvel think issue 104 of USM is the landmark issue where Bendis/Bagley's run is longer than Lee/Kirby's FF run? (I know they didn't say it is in this article but they have in the past and that's why the clone saga arc is ending with issue 104). A simple bit of research shows that Lee/Kirby's FF run ended with issue 102, not 103... so issue 103 is the landmark USM issue, not 104!

Carey/Ferry might well get me to buy it again, especially if they're going to add a more cosmic flavor. I'm game!

Bendis planning more to play up more high school elements of Ultimate Spider-Man. He talked about seeing a high school kid carrying a fake baby around for the week, and he loved that idea.
Damn. I'm generally a Bendis fan but still...crap! Looks like we'll miss out on 2 or 3 months worth of interesting storylines while Bendis gives us a plot more suited to Saved by the Bell. Who wants to bet against Peter and MJ being paired up to take care of this fake baby? Some kind of teen drama will ensue anyway. And who dares think that it won't include a joke about the "Great responsilbility" of caring for a child? :D

Gosh, this sure is a fun thread.
...
How about instead of whining and complaining and saying you're not going to buy so-and-so someone talks about the fact that Carey and Ferry are taking over Ultimate FF and bringing Thanos with them, and an Ultimate Clone Saga is coming up.
That said, I have a problem with Bendis' explanation that "Ultimate Gwen's death was done to show Peter that he has to protect his loved ones from the consequences of his life." Wasn't that what Uncle Ben's death was all about? I'm probably just bitter about the whole thing -- I absolutely adored Gwen's big sisterly relationship with Peter and was sad to see that element go.
Have a good day.

Interesting choice in Carey/Ferry to take over for Millar/Land, but it does make some sense. I just hope Carey brings more to the table than he did with UFF 19-20, and U:X4.
Characters designs by Ferry look awesome especially Thanos, but some do look a little to "Adam Strange-ish".
Charlie Huston doing the Ultimates Annual? That's going to be interesting, I'm surprised no one has complained about it yet.
Leinil Yu can do no wrong! Ultimate She-Hulk?
And this is why I ____ing love Bagley.
Bagley said that storytelling is about the emotion more than the minutiae of the detail. He didn’t break into comics until he was 27 and has “banged hammers” in past jobs, so he appreciates doing comics so much more. He said that delayed books hurt the readers’ enjoyment of the stories, so he considers it his job to keep the momentum going for the fans.

Call me Mr. Nice Guy. The story on Ultimate Spider-Man the Game (What I have completed so far, and I stink at video games) is we have Ultimate Venom running loose. Spidey barely defeats him and then Venom is on the loose some more. Spidey has to go and fight Ultimate Shocker and Ultimate Boomerrang during the time killing portions of the game for you to get experience. Then you fight Ultimate Rhino who is really a short nerd in a robot exo-skeleton. Fun. While this coccurs, you get the chance to be Ultimate Venom and beat up on Wolverine. Ultimate Venom fights Spidey, Spidey barely beats him again (Least I barely beat him) and Ultimate Silver Sable shows up to cart him away. Was curious about that, since Sable in the latest Ultimate Spidey is meeting him for the first time and they don't know eachother despite her having a few words with Spidey in the game.
OK, I stink at games and haven't progressed any further yet. But the game is available on PC, just check your computer to see that it has a Open Glide video card with at least 32 mb of memory to the card, and I would wager Lightning also for it. I know, I have a older laptop for work and many games I bought for it couldn't play since I lacked Lightning. If the card is two years old or less, it's probably OK.
My guess is the game counts only in so much as not everyone of us bought the game so far, so Bendis wants to get us to buy it then he can do another one. Game is fun, don't get me wrong. But I don't see much of it working for or against continuity. Course the Silver Sable bit does seem off, but that is me rechecking Ultimate Spider-Man from the recent arc with Sable not knowing Spidey's height, size, etc. yet in the game they have a few words.
<Oh, and I feel your pain about the Genesis. I didn't buy a new system since Genesis (the original one with the cartridge on the side) myself, and finally broke down and bought PS2 in September '05 just to play all of the SPider-Man, X-Men, Batman, the Animate Superman games and a few others. I play a hour or two a week only. Not much of a gamer, too busy I suppose.>

It's possible, but I also remember a fun episode of the 90s Batman cartoon where one of the characters (not sure if it's Batman, Robin, or Batgirl) find an abandoned baby and then spends the entire fighting crime lugging the kid around (who was having the time of his life) while trying to find the baby's mother.

I'm a big Thanos fan from way back and can't wait to see the ultimate version even with the plunging neckline and piercings. I figure if any character can carry off the metrosexual look, it's our favorite Death romancing Eternal. Another HELL YES, for the Ultimatization of Thanos.
I am surprised though that Millar's run is ending so soon, Carey was an obivious choice to follow after the four issues that he has done with the characters. And I do like his stuff, but come on Millar is on fire with this series which is second only to Ultimates.
I barely remember that, its there but it is incredibily fuzzy. Although your description actually brings to mind an episode of Samurai Jack, where he does the exact same thing the entire episode but the child goes from having a sickly cute cartoon babyface, to a unibrow glaring little badass, screaming Jotoro.

I remembered it wrong, sorta. What really happens is that Robin gets an electronic egg baby that records how well the baby is taken. If something bad happens to the egg, Robin fails the class. So Robin lugs it around fighting crime, it gets stolen by one of the villains, and Robin has to rescue it. All throughout the episode the egg makes excited baby noises and faces. He takes it back to class and gets the highest grade because his egg was the most stimulated.
It was one of the light-hearted ones.

NOOOOO!!!MILLAR!!!!I agree, that Mark leaving altogether is bad for the imprint. I wish that he would do something. Reminicent of when Gaiman stopped doing work at Vertigo. Everybody's sad. And, Huston better have a GREAT artist on his side. I'll take Dillon again.
AND! I'm really the only guy who hates that Thanos design??
how many earrings does he have on his left ear...He looks like John Romita Jr. (inside joke for anybody who has seen a picture of John Romita Jr.) (he wears like six hoop earrings on his left ear) (just like that pic of Thanos)
Ronan design was the only thing I liked from Mr. Ferry.

I know a lot of the Ultimate universe is a re-telling with a twist of the 616 stuff, but when did the Clone Saga become a classic? It should never have happened in the 616 universe, let alone here!

Sadly...with Pascal being on the book...I have to admit that I'd buy it for a few issues even if Chuck Austen was writing it. Well...maybe not Chuck...but Devin Grayson. :)

I was already dropping Ultimates after Millar left that title and now Ultimate Fantastic Four will follow suit. I've never read a Mike Carey issue yet that I liked and Ferry isn't quite a good enough artist to overcome that.

Later, Quesada said that Marvel gets great Ultimate pitches all the time, and they have to avoid the temptation to produce more series. He compared it to the early 90’s when every success was milked to death.
When I asked Joe Q. to list the hardest propsal to turn down so far, he listed two: he said that there was a Doctor Strange project and a Ghost Rider project that he had to say no to.

oh, i realised that, i was just surmising that perhaps all these alien types showing up in UFF might be leading up to "Ultimate Invasion", should have made that more clear...

It was one of the light-hearted ones. it was actually Batman Beyond, and it was a good light-hearted episode (can't wait for the season sets to start coming out!!!)

A nice way to stand up for getting a book out on time and realizing that the readers are paying his salary and he is doing it for us, not the other way around as some artists would have us believe. Totally agree.
What a classy guy..

I feel like such a nerd for saying this, but it was actually an episode of Batman Beyond. "Egg-baby", it was called.
Have a good day.
