Okay... Ethan Van Sciver... to me.... is one of my favorite artists.... but for some reason I only think he should draw heroes that use "energy" type weapons and blasts .... or stuff to that effect... like green lantern.... his amount of detail works perfect for green lantern and I think it is truely amazing...
But when he works on something like superman.... I dont think his style fits it.... his cover for superman/batman... with superman and batman on the cover... just isnt that good... for superman.... sorry i dont have the cover... i cant find a link to it
I just think his superman looks like crap..... the batman is actually really good I think he draws batman... and other dark heroes along with green lanterns and stuff... but I just dont think he can draw superman... superman has no ablilities that deserve as much high detail drawing as a green lantern book....
Well this post was rather confusing... but what i am trying to say is... ethan works great on the green lantern and batman and things that he can make dark and really amazing.... but when it comes to superman... I think he fails....
what do you think?

I'm going to wait till the first issue is out of their run and then see what he can do with the character, I agree the cover isn't all that great, but cmon it's only a cover let's see the interior art.
He does do wonders with Green Lantern though, that art is amazing!

GLs, any of them, are the characters he seems meant for. His Batman takes getting used to, but that GL Bats this week was fantastic. I also give him big respect for the Spider-Man holding a dead Uncle Ben pin-up he did for one of Wizard's Spider-Man specials a while back. That one still gets me.

I don't think the problem is with him drawing Superman, it's just that Van Sciver draws such a wonderful Green Lantern. His Batman looked just fine this week, so I have no worries that Superman/Batman will continue to be a good book. It won't be as fun and zany as Leob's run, but it'll still be good.

Jacob:
Love your signature and respect your opinions. Give me one issue to 'get' Superman.
No, give me one cover. Superman/Batman #28, which will be in PREVIEWS next month.
The piece you are talking about was a promotional image. It's not the cover.
Thanks,
EVS

Ethan,
I remember talking to you back when you were doing Cyberfrog in the Wizard chat room on AOL.
Your art has come a long way and you are an amazing artist.

DC needs to produce character posters (ala Alex Ross) with Ethan's art. Badly.
I already have a ton of individual covers of his stuck all over my walls… man, waking up every morning with that freaky Sinestro staring at me would be awesome.
The man’s never done anything (for DC) that I haven’t loved. My favorite artist working today.

I've thought for a while he would be great for a Martian Manhunter series.

his work on new xmen was bad (not horrible, but not good).
his GL is awesome.

One of my favorite things about him is his sense of mischief. I recall reading a Wiazard article a few months ago where he had secretly placed all these weird subliminal messages in some of the art a few years ago. That was great!

That would work.
He's got the ability to take the cosmic stuff and make it look totally believable.
I'd love to see his work on any number of Rann/Thanagar offshoots.

Yeah didn't he give some other clue's where to find some stuff? Like, Green Lantern # 4 or something. I've been too lazy to look.

I really want to see EVS on a horror title of some kind. Even a Deadman story would be awesome.

That's exactly what I was thinking. His Shark and Kilowogg especially got me interested in what he could do with a horror title. I think he'd be especially good at gruesome. I think his eye for detail will be cool for Superman/Batman, particularly with Batman. I can't recall his version of Superman, so I won't comment. But with Supes' heat vision? I'm looking forward to that.

I think Ethan's Superman looks pretty good, but his Green Lantern is the best version of the character I've seen, and I've seen a lot artists take on GL. His current work's a quantum leap ahead of his Cyberfrog days, even the New X-Men days. One of comics' best artists as far as I'm concerned.

It's like Green Lantern was waiting around for him to revitalize it.
Well, I guess that's kinda true...
EVS on Green Lantern simply rocks. But I'm sure his S/B stuff will be great too.

Ethan Van Sciver is an incredible artist and his green lantern is BEAUTIFUL. I got a couple issues of rebirth signed by him at phillys con and got to talk to him. he was a real nice, down to earth guy. The only picture I've ever seen of his superman looked awesome and im sure his run on S/B is going to be incredible.
I would be hard pressed to disagree with the thought that he excels at GL better than anything else he does because seriously, he draws one hell of a Green Lantern. Thats not saying anything else he does isn't top notch but man, he really found his notch with the lanterns.

I've enjoyed his art since he did a couple of issues of New X-men.
