According to today’s Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has picked up the Whiteout series of graphic novels written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Steve Lieber. Attached to star and produce the films is Reese Witherspoon, who has just signed a production deal with the studio.
This is the second studio home for a movie version of Whiteout, after the option for the film was nabbed by Wolfgang Petersen and Gail Katz for a Columbia feature in 1999. Petersen and Katz, according to the Reporter, will continue to be involved with the film, along with Witherspoon’s Type A production company.

Reese Witherspoon? I love the li'l gal and all, but isn't she a little too cute & perky to be in Whiteout?

Reese is awesome. This should be great, as I think she's got the chops to pull off this kind of role.

dunno - dye her hair black, don't play up her cuteness as every role she's ever had has, and she may be somehting different than what we've seen.
Election showed an edge to her, and if she's looking to expand people's views of what she can do (she desperately needs to get out of the America's Sweetheart class with a meaty role soon, otherwise, see career of Sandra Bullock...), she may pull this off well.

I'm with Matt -- Witherspoon is a better actress than she's given credit for, largely because she's been doing too many "cute" romantic comedies of late. Go rent ELECTION and FREEWAY, or even PLEASANTVILLE, and then talk to me about her acting chops. Don't fall into the LEGALLY BLONDE/SWEET HOME ALABAMA trap just because Hollywood's selling it.
I think, at least visually, that Witherspoon would be a better fit to play Lily Sharpe then Carrie. It would be interesting for her to produce the movie, and play that smaller role, while someone who is closer to Carrie play that role (someone like Lili Taylor).
It'll never happen, but it would be cool.

I recommend MAN IN THE MOON, a very early Witherspoon role to see that she's always had skills.
But yeah, you can't watch FREEWAY and say she has no edge.
sorry about dresden

I think Reese is cute but it looks like Kia Asamiya drew her chin...
I think she could definitely pull off the role of Carrie, though.

I think Michelle Forbes would make a great Carrie. She played Ensign Ro on Star Trek: TNG and now she's in 24.

If it happens, this could be a great film.

You have a point there.

I dunno. Even then, I'd have a hard time believing her. This is one of those occasions where I'll have to see it to convince myself. :D

I just looked at her IMDB profile (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000702/) and Whiteout is not there. My doubts about her playing the part have no reason to be now but there's also no movie so... Welcome to development limbo. :( Well, at least there's still a chance for the future. :D

That would be a nice possibility. But I have to say she's starting to get on the wrong side of age. She still looks great, though. ;)

Heheheh :D
My sister always says Reese reminds her of a Pekinese dog or something like that. :p :D
