While it's not unusual for Xeric Grant recipients to already have stuff in print, these aren't awards (in the sense that we usually think of the term) for published books. People sometimes call them "Xeric Awards", which is misleading; they're closer in spirit to grants from the NEA (albeit less controversial because they're privately funded). So when the Xeric people announce the "winners", it can often be several months before the books in question actually exist for people to buy.

See <a href="http://www.xericfoundation.com" target="_blank">the Xeric Foundation site</a> for more info.

By the way, I've read some of Derek Kirk's "Small Stories" work, and it's worth a look.

Cheers, Todd

Be sure to check out Sam Hiti's stuff, too. His art is absolutely fantastic.

congratulations to those involved. It would seem that Derek's smallstories.com is already down, pitty. Derek Kirk and Sam Hiti, two of the few people who are master of the black and white. Lot's of promising indy or upstart artists today.
Becky Cloonan, Derek Kirk, Sam Hiti and Rob G, those names are sure to satisfy people like me who wants a regular fix of B&W art.
