I'll be honest, Walking Dead is one of those comics that I've been wanting to get into but just haven't done so yet.
I did see that they put out a $3.99 Walking Dead Script Book that has the first 6 issues. I can't wait to read this as I've decided to try my hand at working on comic scripts since I'm finished with my screenplay class.

You need to read the Walking Dead. Definitely pick up the paperbacks.
But yeah, the scriptbook for $4 seems like a hell of a deal.

The first issue? How much that set you back? I've seen them on ebay for $50 at least.

It was basically $40 at 40% off. The shop was having 40% off ALL back issues, I ended up spending like almost $100 lol.

I read the first couple pages of this. I know every writer is different, but Kirkman's script felt almost exactly like how a screenplay is written, other than some details specific to the artist. I am now even more confident after finishing up the screenplay class.

If you think he's bad, thats nothing compared to Bendis--he actually uses Final Draft for his comic scripts. Bendis scripts are basically screenplays/teleplays.
The scriptbook is decent. I'm making my way through it.
Personally, I can't stand comic writers who write camera angles. I think its telling the artist that you can do their job better then they can. I almost never do that unless there's a specific reason why something has to be at that angle (which frankly, I don't think happens very often). What I am big on is mise-en-scene, i will write everything important that will be in the panel in the description.

Actually...I kind of liked the whole screenplay feel. And more than likely, I'd use Final Draft too, just because of the format I guess.
Not really sure how I feel about camera directions, if you want something seen the way you want it, I don't see a problem with it i guess. After all, the artist is following your script.

Well I think part of the problem would be who the artist is. If I knew who the artist was and we had a rapport then i would be much less detailed about things. As it stands, I usually put everything in because I don't know who would potentially be drawing something. They might be brilliant or they might not know what they are doing.
But I usually do most of my own designs, just ghetting an artist to kind of go over it to make sure that everything works together and getting better looking images. Because my pencils suck but I'm fairly good with design. I keep large amounts of reference material, both for stories (conceptually and plot wise) and visuals.
I maybe put one camera angle in every 3-5 pages. Usually if I write the script right, the artist would pick up on how the panel and page should look.

I just picked this up becuase I'm an artist and I ca't wait to get into it. We'll probably see alot more of these to saturate the market for co. to pick up a quick buck. I also picked up hunter Killers when it came out.
I can come up with scenes pretty well with little descriptive direction from a script- But I look foreword to one day working on a full script instead of synopsys likie plots.
I gues that's mainly why I picked initially. I also picked up the first trade- I really like what Kirkman is doing with the Fantastic four Zombie crossovers. Land is an amazing artist and I really enjoyed the Marvel Zombie issue.
Good stuff so far.
But man there's alot of Zombie books on the shelf.
Best

scriptbook was good - Kirkman kind of rambles on a bit - but I think it's all for the benefit of the artist. Walking Dead took me about 2 issues to get into - but know it's definately a top favorite...

The scriptbook is definately a bargain compared to other similar books like the Ultimate Spiderman Scriptbook.
It is always interesting to see different writers using different formats and styles to convey their ideas to the artist.
