Pasqual Ferry has come a long way from Plasmer to the Ultimate Universe. I contacted Pasqual in Spain and he agreed to chat with Newsarama about his career and what we can expect from him in the next few months.
Newsarama: First off, let's kill some of the minor controversy - your actual name is Pascual Ferrándiz, yet you are credited as Pascual Ferry, Pascal Ferry and even Pasqual Ferry. What is the preferred spelling?
Pasqual Ferry: My preferred spelling is PASQUAL Ferry. My real name is PASQUAL FERRÁNDIZ, so the “Pasqual” stuff is the same. The fact that sometimes the name is written “PASCAL” is because this is how it is pronounced in English. Pascual is how it is written in the Spanish language. I’m Catalonian and my name in this idiom is PASQUAL. With “Q” I hope that it will be the definitive way that everybody knows my name!

great chronological profile. i loved pasqual's work on Mr. Miracle, and he truly did break new ground with the Adam Strange work. i'm looking forward to his tenure at Marvel.

Adam Strange was beautifully done, and the first issue of Mister Miracle was amazing. As a primarily DC fan, I'm sorry to see Mr Ferry defect to the Dark Side, but wish him the best of luck. I'm definitely on board for the Ult X-Men/FF crossover.

I also loved his style of work on both Adam Strange and Mr. Miracle. It was much more defined than his earlier works. When you look at his new stuff, you know right away who drew it. It's very distinctive and perfect for those two books.
I'm bummed about him being off Mr. Miracle though....
But he has impressed me with his work, so I will pick up his stuff in Marvel and see how his art evolves over there. I'm hoping he still uses Photoshop and sticks with his new style.

Nice interview. I've been in love with Pasqual's art since FF2099 and H4H. :)

It was based on Pasqual's art alone that I picked up the entire Adam Strange mini, and will probably end up picking up that lone issue of Mr. Miracle, as well as the Ult. FF/X-Men mini... LOVE his style :) ;)

Agreed - loved Adam Strange. Now if I could just figure out how to get in touch with Pasqual for art sales...

You know...he is one of the few people I'd like to commission for a piece of art.

Great artist. I loved his work on the Adam Strange mini, and picked up Mister Miracle just for his work (I am waiting for the 7 soldiers trades) Love his work!

I remember seeing Pasqual's pencils for Heroes for Hire and thinking they looked really good. But the finished products wasn't as good -- a case of the wrong inker, I believe.
His work on Adam Strange was incredible. Some people dissed the moody coloring, but I thought the effect was brilliant. Diggle's story was very solid as well. It would have been a treat to have seen the same crew on Rann/Thanagar War.
It will be interesting to see what he moves onto at Marvel after the X-Men/Fantastic Four team-up.

I completely agree. That was my initial reaction as well - it was on seeing those pencils previewed that I picked up the book.

One thing bothered me and that's all the mistakes. And that Matt and/or Rik could have corrected them but didn't. Sigh.

Kolimar beat me to the punch; I enjoyed his (Pasqual's) work from the last few issues of Fantastic Four 2099. I recommend them (and check the Buck Bins; I doubt they're highly sought-after).

I really dug him on Heroes for Hire, but lost track of him for a few years. His style had changed enough by the time I saw Adam Strange that I didn't recognize it right away, but I knew I liked it. It's definitely gotten stronger.

Pasqual Ferry's work on H4H was incredible. That was a book(at least in the begining of it's run), that was before it's time. I see a lot of H4H in the New Avengers book.
Plus Pasqual's Iron Fist is second to no one.
Anyone else think Iron Fist is a character just waiting for someone to do something monumental with him?

MattB No excuses! (enters random german prfanity)!!
Great interview though. One problem I have with it though is the politician style responce related to his leaving Mister Miracle. That's really the one thing I wanted to get out of this interview and didn't. Why did he take the book and then not finish it? And don't we think that his sudden Marvel Exclusiveness is kinda coincidental? Like maybe he just abondanded a project he commited to for a deal at Marvel? I'm not judging the guy but I'd like a little more openess. But whatever. His art rocks!:D

It's great that he's at Marvel, where he can have great visual characters to draw. DC didn't really have that many outside of a handful.

AM I the only one who thought "KNEEL BEFORE PASQUAL!" Seriously it reminds me General Zod.
I am glad he's back at Marvel. Now what I really want to see is him and Grant Morrison on Dr. Strange. Morrison loves all that magic stuff and Pasqual loves Dr. Strange - Comic Gods make it happen.

Nice article-it's really a shame he's at the "House of Unoriginality" right now-I can't help but think leaving Seven Soldiers was a very big mistake-hopefully not for him. Who in their right mind would sign a Marvel exclusive now?

I was thinking that too.
Is Pasqual saying Grant Morrison was late with the scripts and therefore not drawing anything when he could have been?

Pasqual is one of my favorite comics illustrators of the past 10 years. It's been great to follow his progress from Marvel titles to DC titles and now back again to Marvel, where he's bound to turn heads with his new style of working with Photoshop. If he draws it, I'll be there.

What he only did the first issue of Mister Miracle?
Who's taken over?
What happened?
I only picked it up, becuase the art looked pretty good, and Morrison's on it. I'm not a big DC reader, but I thought at least they could finish a mini?

Sigh. To be fair and honest,i also read the article for insight on the Mister Miricle mess, but was PLEASANTLY surprised by his very diplomatic awnsers and general praise for the people and companies he has worked for. First off,if i am not mistaken, Pasqual was removed from Mr. Miricle in response to the fact he was going to sign a exclusive to Marvel, not that he abandoned the project. The reasons for the removal from the book were not mentioned here by the artists, nor by DC or Marvel, but from what i gathered here Pasqual has acted with professionlism and dignity.
Also,Bolt1033,thou you have worded the comments in a way to show you hope him well, then question his intelligence or sanity(or both)with the next comment. From your post,i can guess you do not like Marvel or do not like Marvel the way it is now,but why not emmulate the artist this topic is about and instead of focusing on the negatives you have issues with, target the things he has done you enjoyed in the past(And the ammount of praise he has on this board showing for Adam Strange and Heroes for Hire so far are well deserved.) for the company you HAVE or at one time had enjoyed? Frankly, slamming Marvel/DC for one reason after another is foolish. If you do not like the books from one company,do not buy them. If an artist you like is making books for a company you dont like, make a choice..buy or don't buy. Look to yourself for the awnser to that. I used to dislike Batman alot, for personal reasons, but have grown to enjoy the character because certain writers and artists have given him memorable stories to read about him,and to deny myself them would be a diservice to both the creators of those great stories and myself for deny me the enjoyment of reading them.
I'm sure Mr. Brady would somewhat agree that posting the same old "i Hate Marvel/i Hate DC" is better off on the message boards, and not here(i do not presume to speak for Mr. Brady, but have notice him more than once to paraphrase this statement).
Tired and cliche' as it is,lets channel a little bit of Mr. Lennon here, and give peace a chance,k?
I love his art and wish him the best of luck!
I hope he get's to work on Dr. Strange.
Now kneel before ZOD!

Anyone who wants to work on high profile characters and is immensely talented and not overlooked.;)
I've said for years how dumb it was for Marvel to let Pasqual Ferry go-- his art jus screams detail and he's a great storyteller.
Now that they've got him back, let's hope they put him on quality gigs, and not cage fodder like Warlocks. His art was the only saving grace of that title.
Looking forward to anything and everything Mr. Ferry has to offer.

The ONLY reason I was buying Mr. Miracle was for the Pasqual's art. I won't be back for issue 2.
Grant Morrison's writing runs hot and cold with me, so he's not enough of a draw on an obscure character (remember this isn't the original Mr. Miracle -- it's his assistant).

Pretty savvy of Marvel to snatch Pasquel Ferry up. He's a really dynamic artist and I think he's more interesting than most of the "young guns." I am disappointed, as a fan, that he won't be completing Mr. Miracle. Seven Soldiers is, hands-down, the best read of the year... it's a shame things couldn't be worked out so he could finish (or not start it at all). I'm not all that invested in the Ultimate U, so here's hoping he gets some work in the 616 universe. I think he would rock on Iron Man, f'r instance.
yr. buddy,
Dave
