(contain spoilers but in very tiny gray letters so unless you really don't want to read it, it's easy to pass over and ignore)
a new Astérix book just came out in french, Le ciel lui tombe sur la tête, and from a quick flip through it's way different then anything else they EVER done before and personally from that quick flip I know I'm going to love this one may contain spoilers but in very tiny gray letters
this looked so freaking fun I just HAD to buy it
"SPOILERS BELOW" but sit down first and don't forget to close back up your mouth after reading the following :)
Asrérix and Obélix come back from an unsuccessful hunt in the forest and they notice everyone in the village is like statues frozen in time as nobody is moving they are all hard like pieces of woods just like the animals in the forest, the only other person that moves is Panoramix coming out of his house not knowing what happen and the three just stand there puzzled; when suddenly...
"SPOILER WARNING"
...a huge starship floats over head as it cast a huge shadow over the whole village, and from that huge golden sphere space ship the size of the whole village exits...
"DOUBLE SPOILER"
...2 aliens, one a Superman like being where after a few misunderstandings the strong man Obélix gives the first punch but after an other misunderstanding....
"TRIPLE SPOILER"
that super space being goes up in the sky pointing towards the sun his power ring and comes back with two Romans to Obélix's surprise and short after...
"FINALE SPOILER"
nails Obélix on the ground with one punch like he was Captain America or something. Later other Alien also arrive and when the villagers do awake they witness Star Wars right in their backyard à la USA league of costumed Superhero clones vs Manga space pirate ship... BLA BLA BLA BLA... and in the conclusion everything ends well at the village with an other nice banquet :-)
This is in part a charming little ;-) at other comics in the world, I thought is was nice
"END OF SPOILERS"
Astérix was created by Goscinny & Uderzo and that was their lifes work, and a few years ago Goscinny died, but at 78 years old Uderzo is still making the series as fun as ever in my view.

quote from the french Canadian CBC site Radio Canada on the book

At 78 years old I think the co-creator can take where ever he likes, he's close to the end of his career and we're lucky just to get this one more book out of him; I remember Tintin's Hergé actually dies while right in the middle of producing his last book which never happened and was never released other that a few sketches and a bit of texts. At their age they can do what ever they went with their comic book creations, and personally I think it was a pretty refreshing chance for the series and for a comic book artist this old
We'll be lucky just to get an other like this in the future

I actually agree with you. Uderzo has absolutely earned the right to do whatever the heck he wants. I don't dispute that at all. He has provided I don't know how many hours of enjoyment for me. Asterix the Gaul and Asterix the Legionaire were possibly the first real comics I've ever owned when I was a wee lad, and I am grateful to them.
I'm just personally not really crazy about this story. I don't mean anything more.

Astérix was my very first comic book ever followed by Tintin which I still like very much, I'm trying to remember which volume was the very first, I think it was the Olympic Games story

Of course he can do whatever he wants with the characters, but I don't know flipping through the book. I bought it of course, but haven't read it yet. Seeing a sort of teletubby alien and sort of a Superman and alien ships is not something I would want to see in this book, but who knows......maybe it's actually a nice book, the art is, that's for sure. And the way the "Superman" gets punched by Obelix is priceless. The Superman wears a power ring too.............but no matter how super, the ghauls will win anyway, hehe. :p

Agreed. I love Asterix and Obelix. The UFO idea sounds a little too silly but perhaps it's well done.
thanks for the thread.

END OF SPOILERS
This would have been an interesting idea for a future Astérix movie, I would prefer all new stories like this with some of these ideas rather that remakes

I didn´t like it. Personally I think that the Asterix series lost a lot after Goscinny died. Esp. the later albums are in my eyes rather week. It is always nice to read about the characters again but besides that there wasn´t much interesting.
