JIM HANLEY'S UNIVERSE WELCOMES INDEPENDENT COMIC CREATORS
Creative Teams of NYC MECH and GROUNDED and Others to Appear

(October 16, 2005/New York, NY) JIM HANLEY'S UNIVERSE, in conjunction with Image Comics, proudly welcomes creators Ivan Brandon and Andy McDonald (NYC MECH), Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta (GROUNDED), Rick Spears (DEAD WEST) and MATT FRACTION (Casanova) to its Manhattan Store on Wednesday, October 26th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

IVAN BRANDON and ANDY MCDONALD are the creators of NYC MECH, a comic about New York City, only inhabited entirely by eight million robots. Rather than being a post-apocalyptic world, it's just a world where robots exist instead of humans. The first mini series, now collected as NYC MECH: LET'S ELECTRIFY, was an instant success and spawned the current mini-series, NYC MECH: BETA LOVE. Ivan has written for other comics as well, such as RUULE: THE GANGLORDS OF CHINATOWN and T3: BEFORE THE RISE. Andy is also the artist for Speakeasy Comics' THE ADVENTURES OF BIO BOY. This is their second appearance at JHU.

MARK SABLE is relatively new to the comics scene, but is a lifelong fan. Mark is also an accomplished writer, having written for both Howard Stern and Charlie Rose. This is Mark's first appearance at Hanley's. PAUL AZACETA is well known to Marvel Comic fans. He has pencilled issues of CAPTAIN MARVEL and SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED. GROUNDED is his first co-created work. This is Paul's first signing at Hanley's as well.

RICK SPEARS (with co-creator Rob G) made a huge impact on the comic scene with his (their) first book, TEENAGERS FROM MARS. A cult hit, it not only spawned more collaborations (FILLER and DEAD WEST) but also inspired the two to create their own publishing imprint, Gigantic (Graphic Novels). This is Rick's second appearance at JHU.

MATT FRACTION is one of the best new writers in comics today. His credits are as eclectic as they are entertaining. He is the writer of LAST OF THE INDEPENDENTS, THE ANNOTATED MANTOOTH (both from AIT/Planet Lar); he contributed stories to both X-MEN UNLIMITED (Marvel) and FOUR LETTER WORLDS (Image) and was the co-writer of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: BLOODSUCKER TALES. His next project is CASANOVA for Image Comics.
