I was looking through the new Previews and saw that there's actually a NEW ISSUE OF OPTIC NERVE coming out in December! Everyone who's complained about Kevin Smith or Quesada or whatever, you can't possibly have the stomach for these waits. A new issue comes every year and a half or so...

Anyway, this new issue is the second part of a 3-part story (the first multi-part one he's ever done), so maybe it seems like a longer wait than normal. But it's worth the time; this is a comic to be savored.

Anybody reading this?

I am. It's pretty good. I don't know how to describe it, but it flows like real life.

I won a copy of Sleepwalker from Brian K Vaughn and I became an instant fan! I think I might order this issue.

Sleepwalker is the title of one of the trade paperbacks collecting several issues of Optic Nerve, a series for which BKV has expressed his admiration on several occasions.

For those with such impeccable taste for books like Optic Nerve I highly recommend the following.

Drawn and Quarterly's "The Pushman and other stories", created by Yoshihiro Tatsumi.

These stories are haunting and reflect the darker parts of life most people would rather disregard. Undoubtedly one of my favorite books of the year. I belive Amazon.com has a sweet price on it.

Yes, Tomine's books take time to come out, but they are always worthy of multiple reads, and stick in your head long after you've finished the book.

"Sleepwalk and Other Stories" is the title of the first Optic Nerve TPB. It's pretty great.

You can also look for the second volume, "Summer Blonde" and the Optic Nerve mini-comics compilation "32 Stories" if you'd like to read more of Adrian Tomine's comic book goodness.

I was not aware that "Pushman and Other Stories" is out. It looks very interesting. Last time I checked Amazon, it was still available as a pre-order only.

Came out this week along with Pyonyang, Baghdad Journal, and The Complete Calvin & Hobbes.

The Pushman was edited and lettered by Adrian Tomine. All the stories were written in 1969, but as Mr. Tomine said in his introduction, the stories truly transend time. If all goes well readers will be treated to a new volume every year, so that's a nice collection we can all look foward to.
