Anyone ever read The Weird mini-series that Jim Starlin did back in the (I think) 1980s? (and by "Weird" I mean that was the name of the series, not that it was strange, although you could make that argument...)

Anyway, per the Beat, the Weird is coming back:

Jim Starlin said that DC would be bringing him back on board to relaunch his old character "The Weird", and also another project he was not allowed to disclose just yet. But, DC would make an announcement shortly.

Wow. That's neat. I never read it, but I remember all the ad's for it and I always thought it looked cool. Was it good?

It was good in the sense that it was really a Justice league mini and it flew under the radar of many other series that had just been launched at that time....(FLASH,JLI,Suicide Squad)

I remeber Infinity Inc members being a part of the series as well as Captain Marvel... and there was something mentioned about Superman's role in the series since the Superman relaunch had just started.

Starlin and Wrightson had just come off The Cult with Batman and Wrightson was still in many ways at the top of his game..

Starlin had just been named the new Batman writer.. so was exploring the DCU

I have this series, but can remember absolutely nothing about it, unlike Starlin's other DC series (Cult, Cosmic Odyssey, Gilgamesh II etc) - will have to dig this one out to re-read.
Starlin and a Kubert on Adam Strange? - yes please.

The Weird?

I'm interested in checking out anything by Starlin, so I'll be on board when it comes out.

I remember the series well. It was oddly touching. It also included Nuklon / Atom Smasher, who wasn't a very big character at the time.

I'm curious to see where this goes, considering the ending.

I'd forgotten about Cosmic Odyssey, with its nice, early Mike Mignola artwork.

Starlin would be good on Adam Strange, or one of the other DC space characters.

a hot damn

i bought this series, the entire four issue run for $.50 from the basement of a local book shop, and for the price I got it, it was a decent read, although I never imagined that it would return. Interested to see what it becomes after a 21st century relook.

I remember this, still have it somewhere. Pretty good comic. Did Starlin do the art or was that someone else? For some reason I'm thinking Bernie Wrightson was the artist.

As metioned above Bernie Wrightson was the artist on this gem. To say that BW was on top of the game during this period may be correct commercially, but he has done better art both earlyer and more recently. I love both "The Cult" and The Weird", but I think the art look a little rushed. (Maybe because this is one og BW's few monthly comics).
