...but anyone who wants to chat GI Joe (Devil's Due version) and wants to post here, do so, because i, for one, love the Real American Heroes!
their new direction (fewer members) suits me, because i like the core group very much.
does anybody feel differently, or wish there were different members prominently featured in the book?
is anybody out there? remember, knowing is half the battle!

hey ESF!
I'm actually about to read back-to-back the first few issues of America's Elite, right after work today.
I read the 25 cent issue awhile back, which didn't grab me the first time. I will give them a second chance based on YOUR recommendation.
Over the weekend, I finished reading the rest of the GI JOE Marvel issues that I bought at WW Chicago this year. I have up to #84. I will have to wait for the next big con (and saving up more $$$) to get more. Did you ever read the Marvel run? I think its the best Joe comics, by far. Hama is to GI JOE what Claremont (used to be) for X-Men, the best writer ever for the franchise...

I'm up for a good GI Joe chat here at the Newsarama.
I have enjoyed AE thus far. I like Destro in his present state and the return of Wingfield was a move I did not expect.
I am not sure how I feel about all the tech that is being introduced, I like it to a point, but we will see where it goes.
I am still kind up in the air about Snake-Eyes Declassified. I really enjoyed the first issue, but this one left me with an uneasy feeling. I like Brandon's work so I will keep following the series, but I am anxious to see where he goes next.
Anyone getting the America's Elite Handbook coming out in October?

I am really surprised by how much I like America'a Elite. As a fairly casual GI Joe fan, I was expecting to get a few issues, and then drop it. But it has me hooked. I really like the art and the pacing. There is plenty of action, and I like the smaller roster. I am pleased with it thus far. Having not read the previous DD series, and being a casual fan, I don't know who Lance Wingfield is... should I?

Actually it is Vance Wingfield, and unless you read GI Joe #4 from the original Marvel Series, then you won't know who he is.
He was a leader of a militia in the states and the Joes took him down. Up until AE #0 everyone thought he was dead.
Hope that helps.

Interesting to hear your guys' takes on the new title. I actually collected the old Marvel book, and then the first DDP series, but I'm not really interested in the small cast. I always liked the expansive cast of the old Marvel book, and the DDP after Jerwa was writing. I dropped AE after I read issue #1.
Of the current line-up, the only one I ever really liked was Flint.
Keep me informed if more characters start showing up though!

I've been enjoying the AE series so far...I do agree on the tech thing, hopefully it doesn't get to crazy in that area...Other than that I've been enjoying the series...
I also have been enjoying SE: Declassified...Brandon Jerwa is doing an excellent job I think...

Right, Vance... sorry. I knew that.
Thanks a bunch for the info.

if you read up to #84, i'm telling you, that was some AWESOME stuff. i LOVED that run.
one of the most intense issues OF ANYTHING i've ever read was #48, i think, when Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow were fighting their way through numerous troops to Zartan on Cobra Island, and Storm Shadow says "Then I'll cut him down in the cockpit!"
wow. still sends shivers down my spine.
as for America's Elite, i'm glad you're taking the time to read them -- i think you'll like them.

oh wow, that's weird that you mentioned issue #48 (w/both Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow on the cover), b/c that's one of my fave issues!!! That's the perfect example of how ninjas SHOULD be written, IMO.
Last night I read GI Joe: AE #s 0-3. Sorry, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The artist (who I think is good) drew ALL the joes ugly, w/constant scowls on their faces. It got old real fast. Flint became a cliched person obsessed w/revenge, and except for Recondo, none of the other Joes were written well enough to pique my interest. The overall plot barely kept me entertained. Ah well, better luck next series?

Recondo was in the new series? Does that mean there are more Joes appearing than in the core cast?

...but if the tenor changes a lot from how it is now, i'll definitely post -- since you're a fan of the characters, maybe you'll give it another try then.

Snake Eyes declassified got so cool in issue 2 when they showed Cobra Commander without the mask!
I couldn't believe it until after I reviewed Snake and his origins.

Cool article, Matt. Thanks. I am really looking forward to these double-issues. More cool pacing and subplotting. I like it a lot.

I say this in every GI Joe thread, but I like the new approach. I through Brandon Jerwa and Tim Seeley had a really good handle on the classic Joe, but I can see that those stories were never going to bring in more readers. I'll admit I was completely lost with the reveal of Vance Wingfield in issue 0 or 1 (whichever it was), so I don't know as that was the best idea, but the story is working for me so far. I like Caselli's art, though his faces do take a little getting used to. It's still light years ahead of the mega-chins in the first few issues of DDP's run.
