First things first: To all the kids whining about how this Legion isn't as good as it used to be, how it lacks the inner conflict and emotion of previous legions, and how their activist attitude is all wrong, and deep down, these punks don't deserve their flight rings, well...
Eat it, Grandpa.
That said, Who else here is enjoying Mark Waid's current run on Futurama? Idealistic youths do teenage rebellion thing, only with Brainy and Cos organizing the movement so all the kids in the plaza stick it to the man together instead of staying in their rooms like good kids on the Public Service.
Although things aren't so easy, what with the army on the edge of the universe, the inner conflict, and the science police acting like dorks, and no other Super-teams to share the burden with.
But hey, at least it's one of the two DCU books not tied into the Infinite Crisis, maybe. Who knows, and the last Legion is still lost in time somewhere. And Shikari whose caught in the current Legion's time period.

ok...believe it or not, as one of the grandpas who has to "Eat it," i'm actually not going to take offense at this because...
the Legion i knew, supported and loved is gone, and has been gone, for about 13, 14 years now.
while some of us "grandpas" remember it fondly, i do recognize that many of the board users don't know or don't care that the book was not only great at one time, but featured almost an entirely different feel, with characters that don't even exist anymore, in some cases.
it's too late to bring them back, now, and really, there's no reason to -- people have moved on, for the most part. even i have.
the thing that irritates the longtime fans is that there is nothing of the previous stories left standing. seriously, the current Legion should be popular, because of the people who despise continuity have no reason not to read it -- the book is nothing like it was at its peak, and has few, if any, ties to continuity now.

I very cool friend of mine purchased 1-9 for me as a birthday gift. I added it to my pull as a result. Not that I was ever a huge LOSH fan, but I admit that it's pretty out there in regards to continuity. It's still a terrific book though. Waid is fastly turning Braniac into one of my favorite characters.

Dan DiDio was questioned by a surely fan who may've or may not have been me this weekend and assured the audience that Mark Waid will eventually address the seemingly retconned origin of Bart Allen and Jenni Ognats.

I've slowly come to appreciate this book. I never really like Legion of Superheroes but I decided to give this new series a shot because it was starting the whole thing over again. At first I thought it was boring and didn't seem to be going anywhere, but the last few issues have really gotten me into this book. I hope Waid writes this for a long long time.

I like the old Legion, and I like the new Legion. It just took me several issues to get comfortable with Waid's Legion.
(frankly, as long as it's not the freakin' Conway era I am happy)

I'm picking it up but Waid is slowly headed down the path to failure. He has finally created a villain we want to see and it's more important to stave of intergalactic conflict.
No one gives a damn about teenage heroes saving adults from themselves. We want to see teenage heroes rebelling and everytime these guys do, they get derailed by grown up stuff.
I don't need young heroes in love or Legion Lost or even the Giffen era back. What I need is some assurance that Waid won't make the same mistake everyone else has made over the last 10 years.
Stop treating the Legion like it's Star Trek with Super Powers.
They can't go from cardboard world to cardboard world so we get a feel for the Universe. They need to get in direct conflict with "The Man" and get in direct conflict with "The Tools of The Man".
Everyoen is waiting to see what happens next. If it's just some neato drawings by Kitson of Ultra Boy chucking big rocks through space ships so we know how powerful these guys are, then we are screwed as LSH fans.
"Eat it Grampa" is perfect if they are really making "Grampa Eat it". All I'm seeing is "Eat it and I'll be there to save you."

Strong point. Well, at least the battle against Lemnos has the added flavor from Lemnos sharing similar goals to the Legionaires, just different methods.

right and that's part of the problem as I see it. I state that the LSH need to
be all about rebellion and we find out that their entire movement is
actually happening because an Adult is helping them behind the scenes.
Waid isn't sucking but I don't see the LSH being too pissed off about it.

It's not the X-Men. That book took off when they were shown to be a disparate of foreigners who came together to fight a societal evil.
They had to be written like stereotypes to work. The hate and prejudice
got dialed up to 11.
If this book had that tension, we'd be all good.
If the the teen LSH had gone through the 5YG, and then had to rebel
against society then it would have done the trick.
Teen Cosmic Boy without powers angry at a maimed Violet and having to
combat the adults who made them fight that war. Gold.

I've been reading the Legion since Superboy #197, and have bought every single Legion comic since then (and thanks to the Archives I've read it all). I'm not a grandpa (though I am a daddy), but if I was I'd be eating it up - because I love this version of the team! I still think that nothing can touch the Levitz/Giffen/Lightle years (though a huge shout out to Shooter/Swan, the first year of the Five Year Gap era, the White Triangle, and Legion Lost), but damn this is great! As popular as the LSH was in the 80's, there was no internet or buddies to talk to about it. This is the first series since I started collecting the book in the 70's that has birthed fellow Legion fans for me to talk to. At my store I've seen several people add it to their pull list, and we then talk about our favorite parts of the latest issue.
I agree that "my" Legion is gone, and that has been since the late 80's or so(mine faded around the time the moon went bang during that Superman crossover), but I'm so into the new model- for the first time I don't mind. By the way, my favorite Legionnaire in any incarnation is Ultra Boy. And, even though this is not my favorite version of the team, Waid has now given me my favorite incarnations ever of : Cosmic Boy, Brainiac Five, Element Lad, Triplicate Girl, Dream Girl, Sun Boy, and Lightning Lad- while restoring what I loved about Karate Kid and Brin Londo.
Long Live This Legion!

I like the LSH,but the problem is the Continue.
Something happen in the past and the future change again.
Invisible Kid dead,an new one, alive again and now a new one.
DC should not do this!Let the Legion be like it is!
In Germany is hard to follow the LSH,there is only
a Monsterbook(Soft Tradepaperpack €20) with The Legion 1-14.
And were still waiting for Monsterbook Nr.3.
And LSH DC Archive #1 came out in a Softcoverpaperpack(€24).
Thats the first Books since the last Superboy & the LSH at the
end of 80s.The Giffen Books never came out here. But I have some
US Comics from this Timeline and many other that came out later.
When did the last change happen after the LSH/Teen Titans Crossover? What did happen?
My favorites:
Timber Wolf
Ultraboy
Karate Kid
Best Read:
The Death & Return of Ultraboy
The Storyline where Karate Kid died.
(I think both storys are from Pre-Crisis-Timeline)
Some old Costumes better!
Timber Wolf pre-crisis costume was the best,
it inspired me to buy books with wolverine(at that time unknown)

I liked the brown costume from Karate Kid,
not the black/white/yellow one :D
