View Full Version : You guys were right, Now I'm beyond pissed. (Flash #227 SPOILERS)

I read the B&W Advanced Flash #227 this weekend at Boston

Weather Wizard kills Bart Allen.

In 1 freaking panel.

With a Goddamn Lightning Bolt, reduces him to chared bone.

WTF?

Killing a Flash with lightning is like killing a fire with gasoline.

I'm beyond disgusted.

I am not a regular reader of the Flash ( I know I Know what I'm missing). But this turn of events is shocking (pardon the pun) to me and it seems a little disrespectful. Even though I get the whole circle of life thing with the lightning. Where are your sketches?

but who said he is dead? Remeber who is writing Cavalieri has a knack for doing what magicians do best... slight of hand..... while your so worried about Bart i would be watching the other speedsters in the story

Couldn't be some sort of x-ray or inside out device or effect? Maybe it just knocked him to Earth 2 or back to his future.

Maybe he didn't phase the entire way or part of him "fell" out of the speedforce. He's likely just mostly dead not Bucky dead. So don't panic ....................... yet! Steve Perry and Journey said it best when they said "Don't stop believin'"

why not? the Flash editor WAS Cavalieri and he is one of the head honchos at DC now....
and what if this is the catalyst....

remember dead people are seeming to come back around this time of Infinite Crisis.....

Bart could really be dead....but that may not be the end of his story...

the year one jump in mere months away - remeber these things...so many titles will start careening into that 52 week gap and we don't know what is on the other side yet.

I was at the CRISIS panel this weekend at WW Boston....

Dan Didio did say..."Everybody knows you can't have a CRISIS without a dead FLASH...."

draw your own conclusions......

That just means a dead Flash will be in Infinite Crisis. Barry Allan will be a big part of IC.

That would suck, why should wally die when bart is more deserving. You want a real crisis, have Hunter perform a few random speed blitz's to him. bye bye kid flash....

Everyone know's what will happen, inertia will be brought in his place to take the mantle of the new kid flash while renouncing his thawne legacy.

And with two kids, I can't really blame him. Jack Knight did the same thing for his kid...

I'd love another couple issues with the John Fox Flash running around. I always thought the Blue Flash was pretty cool.

retiring is very anti-climatic for such a large event. Bart is going to D-I-E... the new replacement im sure will have more ritalin in his system to make him less annoying.

...for whatever reason, i just see that. the whole wife-and-kids thing...retirement just seems to be a good option for the character, if he is to remain true to what i think his core character is.

he isn't a quitter, mind you -- that's not what i'm saying. i'm saying that he seems to be the kind of person who wouldn't risk excessively his children being orphaned.

I doubt bart will die for the simple fact that he and Owen (Captain Boomerang) are half brothers. There has to be some kind of drama whether good or bad, to draw out of that.

VinnyPic
10-03-2005, 04:13 PM
Scott Kolins (Out of Costume), Howard Porter (in Costume).

The photoshop amalgamation was my creation however. :)

bizarrolike
10-03-2005, 04:17 PM
kollins did that??? I knew he worked on the flash but didn't realize he did anything on bart. Pretty strong detail, for him.

Hey think about this for a minute...and tell me if this ever crossed your mind. The flash is somehow involved in the crisis as didio alluded too. Also Quicksilver from Marvel has a hand in it.......we should face facts. Marvel and DC use speedsters as plot devices to advance large events.

At least in DC you have numerous people to fill in the role. In marvel we have like what? 2 or 3 at most.

Bart can move so fast that he can vibrate his molecules through solid objects (like when Wally used Jay's helmet to stun Zoom) but he can't move fast enough to get out of the way of a lightning bolt

Two quick thoughts...what if it was Wally in his Kid Flash days? That could really screw up continuity (and thus creating an alternate reality)? And as to that being the Weather Wizard's newer costume...maybe Luther and his Society have cracked the time travel barriers...thus creating the COIE effects.

Also, if it is Bart...our Bart...maybe DC has marked for death all the new characters (Impulse/Kid Flash II, Batgirl II) that have appeared post-COIE.

Bad joke! This is Wally! The sign on Barts chest is different

Written by Joey Cavalieri; Art by Val Semeiks & Livesay; Cover by Art Thibert

A exciting new creative team comes aboard as THE FLASH speeds toward . . . the end? The past always seems to catch up with the Fastest Man Alive, and as INFINITE CRISIS approaches, Wally West reflects on his life with his wife and kids and sees that the end may be near.

No one dies in this issue!

Just in Case...

I'm sure that someone has mentioned this. But, the sequence in question was an "out of continuity" nightmare. After the panel we see Wally waking up. And to further clear up the apparent confusion, he states in his internal narration:

"I'm constantly thinking quick. I was trained to see danger at every pass and spin thousands of scenarios and possibilities and evasive maneuvers through my head at mach speed.

"That doesn't stop just because I go to sleep."

That and who among us can say that our dreams are "in continuity?"

On a quasi-unrelated note...

I think this was one of the best comics to come out in a long while. Not only was it steeped in excellent characterization, but it was quite humorous and charming at that. Sad to think that this is just a stand alone arc before One Year Later -- because Cavalieri and Semeiks do some excellent work here.

Take care,

James
