I think that JSA is the best super hero book on the market. Geoff Johns is a genius and the characters are some of the coolest in comics.

This thread is for all things JSA...so bring it on.

Long live Black Adam!!!!!

It's not my favorite book, but it is quite boss. I like Justice Society Returns and JSA All Stars more than the current ongoing, though.

JSA is seriously the best superhero book ever produced in the history of comic books.

While other titles may have had moments of superiority, they were short-lived. JSA has reached a very high level and sustained it for over 6 years now. The X-Men never did that, nor JLA, nor Teen Titans, nor anyone else.

The only current downer about the series is:

1) Not knowing how Infinite Crisis will affect the team (though it is a little exciting....)

2) How much longer we can expect Geoff Jenkins on the book. He's been on it for quite awhile and I'm a little bummed that the end might not be too far off. :(

JSA is hands down one of the most consistently great books out there. Great stories, great creators, great characters. What else do ya need?

Geoff Johns :)

JSA is one of the books that sucked me back into comics when I started back up. I've always loved it.

Alan Scott is one of my favorite characters, a lot of people find that strange for a guy who grew up with the 80s/90s comics.

I think JSA is easily the best superhero team book that DC publishes. I've been reading it since the first issue and the quality has remained high in every issue. I think this book is Geoff Johns' best work. I just wish the art was more consistant.

I'd like to see one for Doctor Mid-nite and Stargirl.

I saw previews for Hourman and Jakeem Thunder....Hourman looked awesome.

Actually, I haven't been dissappointed by the JSA yet...but then you have to understand that not every issue is going to be on par with majestic issues like Black Reign, the Return of Hawkman, etc.

Really? I thought Black Vengeance was one of the worst arcs the book has had.

I had a bit of an argument with Chap22 and Alfonso about this, but I don't think JSA benefits from IC poking it's ____ into the book. It works best standalone for me.

In relation to IC, I'm just glad no one major has been killed off (so far...). I like my JSA the way it is.

I wonder how much more (other than Billy) the Crisis will affect this book?

Doc Midnight
10-03-2005, 06:17 PM
OK, I'm with Punchy (as usual apparently) and I'll add that the art has suffered greatly of late. Not only that but a book that could be the LOST of comics has totally been treated like "Those odd gamer kids in the corner of the cafeteria".

You have this team where Legacy runs up against Duty all the time and they are being wasted. I started getting ticked when I realized Black Adam was leaving because they couldn't figure out how to really make him a redeemed hero.

Stargirl is only good for having a crush on Atom Smasher or Batson.

Dr. Midnite is only good for being in the Med Lab.

Sand, a rather unique character with the potential of Nightwing, is just sort of being used to be a "leader type".

Jay Garrick and Ted Grant get to be crotchety old men and Hawkman is a dick.

Don't even get me started on the dumping of Dr. Fate.

I read it because it has to become good again but Im not holding out hope.

This has been the best book published for the last few years. It has been consistantly on top of it's game. Lately, I do think that the non-stop tie-ins have hurt it a little, but it still stands tall.

What Johns has done with the character of Black Adam is amazing. I never cared about that character before JSA, and now he has become one of my favorite characters in comics!

Plus, he fixed Hawkman's origin! That alone gets bonus points!:D

While I've stated that Nightwing is my favorite character, and how much I love the new LSH...All heads must bow for the most enjoyable super team book around- JSA!

I've loved every issue. I even enjoyed last issue. I agree that it should of happened in Green Lantern or something, but damn I haven't seen the Hal Jordan (Green Lantern)/Hal Jordan (Air Wave) relationship since like 1978...

With the exception of the Earth 2 Robin, my favorite 3 JSA members are Hourman (Rick), Sand, and Dr. Mid-Nite. I do agree that Sand needs to do a little more, he had a lot of focus early on and needs to reclaim his turf.

I like Sand, but I think he's sorely in need of a costume overhaul. The thing is, I can't decide if he should go noir-ish like the original Sandman (trenchcoat & gas-mask) or brightly-clad superhero. Either way, what he currently has just doesn't work for me. It's too bland and looks like a bad G.I. Joe action figure:

Stargirl was in the short-lived Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E. (also penned by Johns).

Rick Tyler/Hourman II was a guest star in the AWESOME Hourman series. (If you want to know more, just ask Moonbeam if Tyler the android was cool.:p)

Alan Scott was Sentinel and made guest appearances in various comics such as Green Lantern, Showcase and crossovers.

Jay Garrick was a guest star in The Flash & Impulse from time to time.

Mr. Terrific and Dr. Mid-Nite had mini-series, iirc.

Atomsmasher (as Nuklon) & Hawkman were members of the pre-Morrison JLA. Hawkman had a short-lived title of his own, but what he actually was (an amalgam of all the Hawkmen?) was too confusing for most folks.

Sand & Wildcat were pretty much in limbo.

Jakeem Thunder debuted during Grant Morrison's JLA run.

I just asked a question about Rick Tyler in the Geoff Johns forum. I want Hourman to get some more feature time!

On the JSA tip, I think it is hilarious that a comic I really didn't like the first storyline in has since been my favorite title. It has been at the top of my list for years and years now.

I have to disagree, Punch. I loved Black Vengeance, it probably solidified Black Adam as one of my favorite characters currently active in the DCU.

I will give you the Airwave/Hal Jordan story. That was not as strong.

Him, the controller, a giant plasma screen, Pringles, Hot Pockets and a Gallon of Mountain Dew. Then Mordru shows up and he has to get to a spot wher he can save...

well, i don't know if i argued that the tie-ins benefitted the book. because i really don't think they do. and through parts 1 & 2, i wasn't THAT fond of Black Vengeance.

but part 3, issue 75, was far and away my favorite single issue of any comic published in the last several years. several members all got great moments to shine, the action was intense, and the emotion was palpable IMO without being too overdone (which is often the case in these heartstring-tugging attempts in comics).

It may have been a mistake but I didn't really notice it.

Larry would be the name of the original Air Wave, this Air Wave's Father, who is dead.

The Current Air Wave and the Silver Age Green Lantern both have the same names. They are both Hal Jordan.

That is unless I missed something.

Very possible. I wonder if the Jordans are Southern. The Southern US is good for refering to people by their middle names as opposed to their first names. I don't see it so much in the North.
