IDW:
Gotta tell you that IDW is getting more and more of my money. Not only do they have high production values (so I don't mind paying 3.99 a book), but they seem to have the type of books I am looking for.
Recent Favorites: The Thief of Always, Smoke, the upcoming The Keep by F. Paul Wilson
Silent Devil: Dracula vs. King Arthur takes what you would think would be a simple tale, and make it very complex. The art and story are dynomite, and I can't wait to see more of this mini...
Top Shelf: The Surrogates mini-series has some dark artwork, and is set in a future time where people use machines as 'surrogates' for themselves. Instead of going to work, they plug themselves into a machine, and send their 'surrogates' to do work for them. Throught the machine, they can experience everything the surrogate does. But now, someone is out there destroying the surrogates. What is his agenda....? Read it and find out.
Back with more later....what are some of yours?

I have always wanted to try Astro City, but their trades are not numbered, and I know there were seperate volumes, as well as minis.
Is there a list of where to start, and in which order...?

Life In The Big City is the first trade. Most of them are fairly self-contained, so it doesn't matter which order you read them in, but in my experience the earlier ones are better (although the current Dark Age is something of a return to form).

I gotta give a shout out to Devils Due. I personally think they dropped the ball on GI Joe around #7 but they've been getting it right ever since Reloaded (and I'm sad it's gone) and America's Elite. They finally got a handle on the Joe franchise.

I've just now discovered Bone thanks to Scholastics colored tpb's. Great series that I wish I'd read back when it first came out.
I read Walking Dead in trade form also, love that comic. Want to check out Invincible and Ex Machina sometime also but need to make room in the budget for them.

Scurvy Dogs from Ait/Planetlar is a hilarious comic. Humor and pirates actually do mix, as it turns out.

I am going to miss the book when it ends in the next year and a half or so.
Another book I have been championing is 'Freakshow' by Atomic Diner Comics.
The story of a group of paranormal investigators set back in the day of the 1950's age of McCarthyism, racism, and parnoia.
the setting is a great way for the book to tackle certain issues.

Non-Big 2 Publishers and Titles I read:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles published by Mirage
- I read a review for this title about 6 months ago and gave it a shot. It features the kind of art and storytelling you won't find at either of the Big 2. That said, it is hard to jump into because it has a deep continuity to it. I don't read the Tales of the TMNT, so I can't vouch for how good that title is.
Revelations published by Dark Horse
- Although it is only a limited series, it is such a fantastic book in both writing and art I had to include it here. A very nice mystery, excellent characterization and Humberto Ramos drawing like a man possessed.
Walking Dead published by Image
- This title arguably restarted an entire genre, and for good reason. You get attached to the characters quickly and the horror comes not merely from the gruesome world in which they live, but from the creeping and ambivalent evil around them at all times. Amazing read every month.
Rocketo published by Speakeasy
- When I try to explain to non-comic reading friends that comics are actually works of art, this title is now one of the ones I show them. All around beautifully written, drawn and colored. Now I just need to find a copy that the printer doesn't screw up on.

I'm enjoying stuff from 01 Comics, an online web publisher. Their site and all archived pages are FREE. They also collect a series and publish it as an actual comic book which they sell and distribute....And...oh yeah...I've got a project with them called Zero Hunters :D
I'm loving Walking Dead and Doc Frankenstein. It's a bummer with Walking Dead falling behind on it's schedule but I'm willing to stick in there for the long haul with it.

It was in the letter column of the latest issue.
He said he had written the final arc of SiP, and that it would play out over the next year and a half.
He said to expect about 2 trades worth of stories, and that's it.

I've really enjoyed the two issues of Shaolin Cowboy that I have managed to get hold of. The art is outstanding and I find the panel layouts and sense of humour very appealing.
It's like nothing else I've ever read.

I even picked up Middleman #1. I found the premise very cute, but I have yet to pick up the 2nd issue.

Shaoling Cowboy is just a ball of fun.
The second issue, with the 'origin of the evil crab' was so damn funny, there were tears in my eyes.
Issue 3 is due out, so talk to your retailer about ordering one.
Have you checked out Doc Frankenstien?
Put out by the same company (burlyman entertainment)
you can order their books here:

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of Local #1, the new Brian Wood series that follows up his work on Demo. I posted a review of it over at The Great Curve:

If you liked Demo, you'll like Local. If you didn't get Demo, the trade is coming out this fall, and I highly recommend checking it out.
Anyone read the Scott Pilgrim books or Elk's Run?

Elk's Run is one of my favorites.
I talk to the writer, Josh Fialkov a lot on the Bendis Boards. he is a very nice guy.
For those of you unaware, he started a website a while back to promote his funny animal strips, called "Poorly Drawn Animals".
Check it out:

As for Scott Pilgrim--
I just picked up books 1 and 2 at WW Boston, this included a sig by O'Malley, and a sketch in each one.
Only partway through book one, but i am impressed w/ how funny it is.

Currently I am reading:
303 from Avatar
Iron Ghost from Image
GI Joe America's Elite and GI Joe: Snake-Eyes Declassified from Devil's Due
Star Wars Rogue Leader from Dark Horse
King Arthur vs. Dracula from Silent Devil
Beowulf from Speakeasy
I am also looking forward to The Lost Squad from Devil's Due.
And those are actually the only issues I buy off the stands, everything else I get is in Trade format.

I have been reading Stray Bullets since issue #1.
I wish they would hurry up with the rest of those '10th anniversary' tpbs, because my singles are scattered randomly throughout 9 long boxes.

Viper turned me off as a fan for awhile with the conclusions, or lack thereof, for Random Encounter and Oddly Normal. Both minis were fun, and I met some of the Random team at Megacon and they're cool guys, but I was still dissapointed with the endings. I don't want to really spoil to much, but I had expected both to be self contained minis and the series aren't wrapped up in any manner I was expecting.

Just got issue #2 of DeMatteis and Ploog's "The Stardust Kid" and I am getting ready to dig in.
The first issue didn't pull me in as much as "Abadazad" did but I enjoyed the first issue and am really interested to see where this goes. When DeMatteis writes like this, he knows how to pull my strings.

1) Walking Dead, great Zombie/soap opera feel to it
2)Sword Of Dracula, just picked up the trade on the weekend & it was really good and innovative as far as Dracula goes. Will definitely pick up the second season in color.
3) Conan, Sword & Sorcery rules, 'nuff said.
