JUSTICE PREVAILS AS JUSTICE #1 SELLS OUT AT DC

JUSTICE #1, the debut issue of the new blockbuster maxiseries by Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and Doug Braithwaite, has sold out at DC Comics. The issue arrived in stores on August 3.

“This is the best reaction I’ve had to any work of mine in the last ten years,” says Ross. “I’d like to think I’m giving people what they want from me, and hopefully the sales show that. The first issue is really just a way to start us getting into much more cliffhanger-like moments of this war we’re setting.”

“Alex, Jim and Doug have done a tremendous job getting this series off to a strong start,” says Bob Wayne, DC’s VP — Sales. “We urge retailers to increase their orders now on the next issue, so they’ll have enough copies for all their customers.”

JUSTICE #2 (AUG050223) is solicited in the August Previews (Volume XV #8) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on October 19.

DC Comics has no plan at this time to go back to press on this issue. Copies still may be available at retail.
JOEY CAVALIERI PROMOTED TO SENIOR EDITOR

Joey Cavalieri, editor of DCU projects including BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, PLASTIC MAN, and the upcoming WARLORD, has been promoted to Senior Editor. Cavalieri is also the writer of THE FLASH #227-230.

“I’m speechless,” says Cavalieri. “No, really, speechless. Now I have nothing to complain about!”

Dan DiDio, VP — Executive Editor, DCU, says, “Joey’s promotion is much deserved. He is one of the most experienced editors in the business, able to juggle a wide variety of projects, from BIZARRO COMICS to SPACE GHOST to DAY OF VENGEANCE.”

Cavalieri first joined the DC staff in 1982 as Staff Writer, after three years of freelance writing for DC, including memorable issues of SUPER POWERS and THE HUNTRESS. After serving as Editor at Marvel Comics for four years, Cavalieri returned to DC Editorial.
SUPERGIRL #1 THIRD PRINTING CORRECTION

Please note that the correct price for the SUPERGIRL #1 Third Printing (JUL058321) is $2.99. Available for advance reorder order now, this issue features a new cover by Ian Churchill and is scheduled to arrive in stores on September 28.

It's actually 227-230.

Hey Matt,

On that mention of Cavaleri being promoted, that should be Flash 227-230, not 127-230.

Congrats to Joey on that. Well deserved promotion :)

Is anyone planning on reading Cavalieri's Flash run? I'm only getting #226, but I'll probably end up skimming through #227-#230. Any word on who's after him?

Cavalieri's promotion is much deserved. Bizarro World was one of the most gratifying OGN's I've read in the last year, and of course, I never thought I'd ever be reading - and loving - a Flash title. Once again, thanks to the mastermind behind the old 2099 books during which Doom took over America. That was fun stuff too. And Plastic Man, I'm sad it's going, but I loved it while it was here.

I hope he gets to spearhead more projects in the future.

Cavalieri is one of the better editors in comics......

His handling and guiding of the 2099 line was really a high point..... notice the line went to crap after he was dismissed

Joey is smart, a great story editor, and a really charitable guy with his time and instruction. He makes you want to work harder for him and that’s the Archie Goodwin thing I think every editor is striving for.

The MONOLITH series proved to me how imperative a first-rate editor can be and now Joey is going to multi-task and prove himself once again on flash.

I, for one, can’t wait.

Congrats dude...

Congrats Joey C.!

I had the pleasure of knowing, and sometimes working with, Joey back in the late 80s and early 90s. He's a hard worker, a creative mind, and a very funny guy.

This promotion is well-deserved.

I'm definitely in for Cavalieri's run. THE FLASH has become one of DC's best books under his tenure and his promotion is certainly well deserved.

No word on who follows him, however. I'm sure DC is holding off on an announcement to keep everyone guessing about Wally's fate, but I really hope THE FLASH doesn't end up being rebooted again like WONDER WOMAN. Barry Allen's era ran from THE FLASH (vol.1) #105-350 and the Wally West era doesn't have much farther to go to beat it.

Next Flash writer should be...no idea. Who could make me love that book as much as Johns?

If my recollection is correct, I think it's fair to say that the 2099 line went to crap because he was dismissed.

I seem to recall Peter David leaving Spider-Man 2099 in protest and I think some other writers/artists did the same.

I would like to add the proviso that this is based solely on my recollection so i could be way off the mark here!

The 2099 line is my only real experience of Joey Cavalieri's work, but if his DC work is as good as this, then I say well deserved and good luck to him.

Pretty much every writer and artist did.

I'm happy to hear this myself...I still think Joey's run on Huntress back in the day was incredibly underrated.

I just noticed this quote after looking at the news on Joey Cavalieri...I didn't pick up the book, so I really can't say for sure my own opinion on it, but unless Alex is talking about the relative sales performance of the book, based on what people are saying on various boards and my LCS, I really don't think this is the "best" reaction to Alex's work in the past decade. :p
