Martin’s The Hedge Knight has received the lion’s share of attention, Roaring Studios has a rollout of six other titles planned in the coming months. One of the first will be Legacy, and we’ve got a sneak peek.

Like all Roaring Studios’ books, Legacy will be published by Image. Written by Carmen Treffiletti, penciled by Edu Fransisco, with digital inks and letters by Lithium Pro, Legacy is set in a postmodern fantasy world where propeller planes fly in the skies, while demons and magic are the rule of the day. But enough from us, let’s let Roaring take it from here.

Legacy tales place in Zelandria, a patchwork world of magical lands and technologically laden cities, where age-old myths collide with futuristic wonders, and mystical creatures dwell among ordinary men. A place where power is contingent on nobility and feudalistic hierarchies govern widespread provinces. It is here where the seeds of legend are sown and the paths of heroes are paved. It is here where a Legacy will be born

It is a time of darkness…

A relentless war rages across Northern Provinces of Zelandria. The battles between the rebel clans and Lord Eridan’s Shadow Sentry have stretched far across the continents, throwing the turmoil-stricken bureaucracies into a hopeless state of civil unrest.

The siege of the capitol palace and the murder of Supreme Chancellor Cronus led to an era of terror and tyranny throughout the lands. Lord Eridan’s political deception and barrage of ruthless surprise attacks led to a swift victory over the Northern Provinces. Desperately, the remaining provinces dispatched hundreds of troops that did little to thwart the onslaught of Eridan’s attacks. Soon the cities were besieged and thousands of lives forced from their homes. With Eridan’s campaign spreading like a plague, the remaining provinces are now faced with their ultimate and conclusive threat.

During a bombardment of an offshore Northern Province, Eridan claimed his most sought after prize—Prince Lucian, the son of Cronus. As the rightful heir to the kingdom of Zelandria under Eridan’s control, the shift of power swayed drastically to Eridan’s favor. The son of Cronus, a mere child at the time, believed Eridan to be his father. Eridan carried out this fallacy, raising Lucian as if he was his own, shaping his every quality into the consummate evil force. Lucian would grow to lead Eridan’s army on a rampage through northern Zelandria, pillaging and ravaging anything in his path. Branded as traitor and proprietor of evil by the people of Zelandria, Lucian became the instrumental pawn in Eridan’s struggle for political legitimacy. Lucian’s name was never spoken unless in reverence or fear and his very presence shrouded Zelandria in a shell of hopelessness.

However, the tides soon turned with an unusual and unforeseen twist. Eridan used Lucian’s to awaken The Six Scourges of Man, an ancient circle of demons who were banished from Zelandria centuries before. It was also at this time and unknown to Eridan, that a mysterious figure presented Lucian with a magical mirror that displayed jumbled fragments of his past, later exposing the truth about Eridan and his father.

With his father murdered, his kingdom in turmoil and the weight of his betrayal plaguing him, the son of Cronus disappeared without a trace, with rumors surfacing years later that he was murdered by rebels. With virtually his entire life made up of deception and lies, the peril Lucian would suffer proved to be formidable punishment for the atrocities caused against the people he was destined to protect.

Zelandria’s once a beacon of hope had become a pawn of evil, viciously diminishing the faith that acted as Zelandria’s unifying element. The dwindling northern rebels were disbanded and the Six Scourges trampled through the remnants mercilessly. Now, Eridan rules a massive empire and has begun his final march to victory. The remaining rebel clans are withering slowly to extinction with each passing day, and the untouched Southern Provinces are now being threatened. As hope for restoration and victory drifts further out of reach for the remaining Zelandrian Hierarchy, a symbol of hope will emerge, from a shadowy past and years of solitude, Lucian, the son of Cronus returns to redeem his crimes and restore peace to Zelandria.

I think these Roaring Studios books actually look really exciting .... I think they're building themselves on quality work with an actual storyline, and I'm hoping that Image will be a place where they can get the recognition they deserve. :)

While I won't be able to afford everything they roll-out over the coming months, I will most likely be there for Hedge Knight and will try everything else to see which ones fit best. I eagerly await these books beginning ....

Out of curiosity, when we can expect to see these books?! When is Hedge Knight due, and how about this Legacy book?! Thanks .... :)

So, when is some company going to grab up the rights to George R.R. Martin's WILD CARD series. I realize Marvel tried something with the property years ago, but isn't it time to try again? I'd gone back through used book stores locally (in the Boston area) and managed to get all of the original books (though I haven't bothered with the newly reprinted versions) and read the majority of them. There's a lot of cool stuff there and some great characters. Given the number of analogs to those (WILD CARD) characters in recent comics, it seems a pretty fertile springboard for a comic series. Hey, maybe someone ought to adapt it for TV...

Just thinking out loud...

Looks good, and sounds like a great story. Looking forward to this.

Now, what is Hedge Knight and Roaring Studios? Have they had anything solicited yet?

Legacy, huh? Sounds like it would make a good film franchise or TV series? Yo, Dabel brothers, any interest in that kind of thing?

:)

My point would be, is these comics going to be regular and on time, or is this another, never knowing when they come out, and if they will continue. As a retailer, I get real tired of the constant hype, then no regular solid comic.

My answer to you is that most of our comics are 3-4 issues completed already and the first one does not come out until July
Please email us at roaring@attbi.com if you would like to be added to our retailer mailing list. We'll send you a lot of goodies. Thanks again for the question.

It's being published by Roaring as well?
Looks good, great artwork&storytelling.
There's so much stuff coming out that seems 'inspired' by the tiny Fantasy-boom caused by Battle Chasers & Soul Saga (and possibly to a larger extent CrossGen). Let's all hope Roaring delivers, unlike the first titles mentioned...
and while I'm on a tangent: anyone know what happened to Stephen Platt?

Hey Arnout, thanks for clicking the link. Appreciate it. Roaring kicks ass!!

The creative team for Runes of Ragnan is putting everything into this title... We've all been long-time medieval fans, and there seemed to be a lack of really GRITTY books. We felt the Vikings were the ideal foundation for a comic that refused to be "glossy", but instead went for a more hardcore, harsh reality. The characters and artistic presentation of RoR is really unique, I think.

Josh (the penciller) puts us right in the action, he doesn't pull away and let the reader watch from a distance. YOu are right up in there with the blood and spit and sweat...I love that :)

Anyway, thanks for having a look at the site. We're very proud of the book and expect to be producing it for years to come.

(I know at least a couple of customers who've been craving a dose of Midieval/Viking action!)

In any case, keep up the great work, Josh is certainly skilled: I loved the page-breakdown where the horseman draws his sword, very well done!

Oh, and speaking of Vikings, a while back there was a comic called Worgard Viking Berserkir by Stronghold Studios... (a guy called Sean Patty). He did some amazing work in the two issues that cmae out and he had a vision and a certain wild draftsmanship. Anyone kow what I'm talking about or what happened? I've been googling stronghold and the like, but no dice...
Just seems like something Roaring might be interested in, as it's in the same vein as their other (future) offerings.

As the war between Lord Eridan’s Shadow Sentry and the withering rebel clans spill into the Southern Provinces, his quest to complete the Scepter of the Mindseye is nearing. With the Scepter, Eridan will resurrect the Shriekers, a race of savages that once held Zelandria in the wake of their madness. Zelandria’s only hope is Lucian, a scorned prince who has returned from years of solitude to reclaim his kingdom and avenge his father’s murder.

The Concept
Victory is about the limits of unlimited power. Being born a half-elf Demi-Goddess from the world of Arton (a medieval like world that stills practice magic), Victory was born to combat a menace of a cosmic magnitude.

Victory can destroy an entire planet with a wave of her hand or heal herself from any mortal wound in a matter of minutes. Nevertheless, even with all this amazing power at her command, Victory cannot use this power to defeat her greatest enemy… loneliness.

This Issue
Inside a giant cave, a group of heroes (a heavenly knight, a masked sorceress along with an elven thief and a brutal dwarven fighter) battle against a four-headed dragon who has an elven princess captive. Suddenly, the thief and the dragon begin a strange discussion about rules and tactics. We soon discover that the heroes are just characters in a D&D like Role Playing Game. The gamers are five kids who run a medieval-style campaign from the home of the Druid (an old time gamer). During the game, Flavius (the GM) looks for a rulebook on the shelf of the Druid's vast collection. Flavius finds an ancient tome and reads the name "K'Athanoa". At that moment, the demon Carolei appears at the home of the Druid with the purpose of retrieving the tome and killing all within the Druid’s home. Luckily, the spell also awakens Victory, a gorgeous Demi-Goddess who is the universe’s only hope against a great evil of a cosmic magnitude.
