Harris comics has provided Newsarama with a three page preview of Steve Pugh’s pencils from June’s Vampirella/Witchblade: Brooklyn Bounce written by Brian Wood. From our earlier interview about the project, here’s what Wood said:

Not fanboyishly familiar with either character, Wood read up on both Witchblade and Vampirella before pitching his story idea to McTigue, a tale which, according to Wood, shows the essence of the respective characters, ideal for readers who’re picking up the characters for the first time. “I wanted to not have to deal with the years and decades of history these characters have, so I really tried to just deal with their essence: NYPD detective with an edge and supernatural vampire chick in bondage gear,” Wood said. “I know that sounds really simplistic, and it is, but I had to start somewhere.”

As for the story itself, Wood didn’t deny that there will be a little of the "meet, fight, realize who the other is, team to go after the true enemy" refrain. “The very fact that it is a crossover means you are going to have to deal with a little of that,” Wood said. “I only have 24 pages to do this, so again I just thought simple and fun and stylish.

The story is set in the middle of the night during a terrible Nor'easter. Sara [Pezzini, Witchblade] tracks Vampirella who tracks a weird homeless teenager through the cut of north Brooklyn. It’s very atmospheric, very visual.”

Steve Pugh's art is great. Hopefully, someday he'll finally pencil a book that I'll actually buy.

Amazingly, seeing women with their breasts hanging out and running around fighting, the first word that came to my head was, of course, "bounce".
