To save my life… I’ll never be able to understand this fascination with manga. It’s a good thing God didn’t have that visual sense when he/she/it/whatever created us. I’d get a paper cut just from scratching my nose. :p

Lord Julius, I'm with you on that one. While I don't mind an occasional Manga flick or even a decent manga funny book, I'm astounded by the way Marvel has just picked this up so suddenly and have been inundating us with it. Also, I feel as if they are really, really exploiting it. Marvel, please tell me what Manga is and shove it down my throat because I'm not very bright and it takes launching a new line for me to "get it."

The art's not bad, but I see no reason why this series needs to exist other than to whore the image of Wolverine for the X2 movie.

Page Two, Panel Three... how much weight do you think those legs could actually support? I'm being serious too... It's like we're getting into Liefeld proportions here.

Well…I’m a big fan of Magna :D …so I really like the art. But that art not the only reason you buy the comic so I’m hoping the story is good…I can’t stand good art and bad stories.

I'm a huge fan of manga and a huge hater of 'American Manga'. And I especially despise this Tsunami crap. In fact, I despise every single thing that Marvel has shamelessly used to exploit and chash-in on this new 'fad'. This whole Tsunami nonsense isn't manga, it's just 'different' American comics, and not in a good way. However, this 'Wolverine: Snikt' thingy really does have me intruiged. I must say, it does look rather good. Perhaps that's 'cause it's made by an actual manga artist and it's not just some cheap-arse cash-in? Yep, that's defiently the reason.

Wow, a lot of people hating here.
Well I think it looks cool, and the colors are nice as well. Give props to the inker and colorist or I'll have to beat down someone.

Nothing funnier than a bunch of worried American comics fans who see their favorite past time slowly going the way of the water buffalo. :p Considering the millions upon millions of manga books sold in Europe, South America and other parts of Asia outside of Japan (not to mention the similar style of Korean 'manwha', etc.) on a yearly basis, I always chuckle over the arrogance of them assuming there's something 'wrong' with manga's newfound American popularity.

When it comes to artwork everyone has their own opinion. I was reading the Rucka Wolverine thread on Newsarama and I do not agree with the majority of the comments made about Robertson's Wolverine.
Let me preface my next comment with this. I own every issue of Transmetropolitan so I'm no stranger to Robertson's artwork and think he is a good artist but after seeing his Wolverine #1 preview in Wizard, I must say that he draws a big, fat, hunched over, ugly-ass Wolverine. If I had to choose between a Tsutomu Nihei Wolverine vs. a Robertson Wolverine, there really would be no easier choice for me to make . Tsutomu Nihei draws a cool looking Wolverine!
But I would not expect it in the mainstream Wolverine title. For the mainstream book I think Andy or Adam Kubert's Wolverine should be the model.
When I saw how many people liked Robertson's Wolverine I did not want to hurl my negative opinion on that particular thread and I apologize if you think Robertson draws a cool Wolverine but I wanted to illustrate how the reverse discrimination could be applied to a non-manga Wolverine in which case I think the manga Wolverine looks cooler. It's really whatever you like. Don't let someone else put you off something you enjoy just because they have a contrary opinion.
I must confess, the one Tsunami book I'm looking forward to is Tsutomu Nihei's Wolverine: Snikt! With the promise of "action, action, action" and a unique looking Wolverine, I'm there. Yes, even at $2.99 an issue for six issues.

Looks pretty good to me.
There are many American comics with "what's up with that" proportions of body parts.

This whole Tsunami nonsense isn't manga.

Not to be rude, but you're right, Tsunami ISN'T manga because it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE. This is a common mistake made by a lot of fans because of the way certain individuals (fans and lazy journalists, alike) have misinterpreted Marvel's intentions, which have been made clear by Marvel many times. Tsunami isn't supposed to be a manga line, in the truest sense, but rather use the way manga has been written and published (concepts that appeal to today's teenagers and young adults, storylines meant to fit into trade paperbacks that come out quickly, etc.) as inspiration. If Tsunami was supposed to be a true manga line, all the books would have "Hey, kids, look it's manga!" written all over the covers (which no one can deny, because when Marvel wants to get a point across, they have no shame ). But they don't. In fact, they don't even say "Tsunami" on them, and they never were meant to. Tsunami was just a name used to provide a fancy label for their latest marketing/publishing approach.
Just thought I would clarify, since obviously this was an issue for you :)

I've never been a huge wolverine or manga fan but this LOOKS great!!! i love his take on wolverine...
i also think jawaplumber makes a good point. Marvel have never said THIS IS MANGA.. they are just trying to introduce some manga theory into some titles..
i think it's good that marvel are pushing mainstream boundarys

Yeah, it does look pretty good. Unfortunately, I can't afforf anymore books a month, and considering that I already LOVE Runaways and Sentinel, I might have to pass. But at least I know I can get in in TPB a couple months from now. By the way, any opinions on Runaways?

Despite the fact that Logan looks kind of like the Sandman with claws, I'd say this is pretty good-looking artwork.
Nothing wrong with new and interesting approaches.

When I first heard about this project, I wasn't really interested. I mean three limited series, two movie tie-ins, and a regular series reboot are too much for any one character to support in one month, even if he "is the best there is at what he does". But I am really impressed by these samples. The artwork is really powerful. Unique, but reminscent of Silvestri-era Wolverine. Now I'm thinking I will check it out.

I think this mini series sounds pretty damn interesting. Wolverine is my favourite Marvel character, and this story is putting a new spin on him. I think the artwork is great, I can't wait to see it.

You ever thought that maybe artists who grew up on kirby and romita are no different than people who grew up on toriyama, and asiyama? and last time I checked this is a BUSINESS if anime/manga is popular why not release a couple of books with that art style. if it's good it's good. end of story all the political BS is irrelevant. is 2 creators can create a good book then hey more power to them. if your not going to like a manga artist then hey fine to each his/her own. but at least be open minded enough to try it out base each artist on their own style and skill level, and not what art style they may prefer.

saiyanspider, everything you just said is completely true. However, I was reffering to the storylines for 'American Manga' and not the art. So far every single 'American Manga' story I've read sucks big time, but that's just my opinion. But when it comes to the art I personally adore it when it's done well, like in the cases of Joe Madrueira, who happens to be my favourite comic book artist of all time, and Pat Lee. I find that most of these 'American Manga' storylines have been written purely to cash in on this growing fad, as I said, and as such it is painfully apparent that the stories aren't nearly up to the standards of Japanese comics or even 'proper' American comics. I probably should have made that clearer, but still, I don't appreciate being called a jerk. No big deal though.
