UNCANNY X-MEN's new regular creative team of writer Chuck Austen and manga superstar artist Kia Asamiya begin their first story arc together this January in "Dominant Species".

The storyline not only gives readers a look at new team recruits Northstar and Husk in action for the first time, but it also introduces a powerful new force to the X-Men Universe.

"DOMINANT SPECIES introduces a new breed of mutants bent on destroying humankind, along with any mutant who would stand with humanity," explains editor Mike Marts. "Of course this leads them into direct conflict with the Uncanny X-Men. And the cost of this conflict WILL be enormously high."

The story kicks off in UNCANNY X-MEN #417 and continues later that month in UNCANNY X-MEN #418. A preview DotComic of the action is online right now at Marvel.com, and to wet the appetite, here's a look at the first two pages.

I read the dotcomic and the one thought that went trough my mind was: ANOTHER breed of mutants?

Sure the book will be pretty and well written but this seems like well tread ground.

I'm getting sick of these mutants who are as different from mutants as mutants are from humans. ugh. been there, done that.

The "other mutant" concept seems played out at first glance, but the pages themselves were dynamite. Chuck Austen does not disappoint often.

Kia Asamiya's art looked much better than the first glance in last month's issue, too.

While poking around Marvel.Comics, I also recommend the Wolvie/Hulk x-over by Jones/Kolins. Also satisfying.

I was hoping Husk would become a new version of Kitty Pryde, but Austin's writing during "Hope" made her a hussy, and now Kia's art is making her look like one. What ever happened to the innocent girl from Gen X?

Retread, been done, and quite simply boring. How many times do we have to read the same story? I haven't picked up Uncanny for a very long time and it looks like its going to stay that way.

At least Marvel has improved Fantastic Four and the Hulk. New X-Men is a better read they just need to find a new artist who is consistently better than the many horrific fill-in artists. Please someone save this book because Uncanny is definitely lost.

Retread. Been There. Been Done. How many times are you people going to whine about the X-Books? If anything has been done before it's that and it's enough to make a guy sick. For the past five years we've got nothing but reboots and then Joe Quesada comes in, another guy most of you people hate, and now we have a quality book.

What you guys like about the X-Books, especially in the early 90s, is what didn't make them work. You people can't come to terms with that fact that just because a book was written a certain way doesn't mean it's the right way.

So keep taking your pop shots at Marvel. It's what you do EVERY...SINGLE...TIME. Look at comics from the outside world. For once their excessible, especially with Marvel, to the people who don't read comics. I'd pass this one along. I'll wind up giving it to some of my family in a christmas comic package. I spread the word...not complain about something because it doesn't cater to my every whim or if it's not Frank Miller.

This is quality work here. In terms of both STORY and ART. It gets down to the very nature of what the characters are supposed to be and does away with the crotch hugging spandex everybody seems to like so much.

This much like the New X-Men are what the X-Men are people. Wether you, the fanboys, like it or not. This current generation is what they've should have been since day one. Forget the spandex and comic book geek melodrama. I can go on and on but somebody who is sitting in front of their computer all day is going to pick this apart anyway.

yeah i'm sick of marvel bashers as well. if you don't like marvel or x-men why do you feel the need to come in on a board ABOUT them. they clearly only want to force their opinions on marvel fans because they don't have the testicular fortitude to do so out in the open. jerks!

Yes, Uncanny is retreading but "New" is supreme originality, without reusing such cliched plots as Professor X walking, Scott cheating on Jean, Jean being Pheonix, Emma Frost stopping being a villain... oh wait a second!

Then again, it's Grant Morrison. We all know he couldn't crap something unoriginal.

Oh, and this looks good. Kia's art seems a lot improved in this snatch.
