Press Release

Forbidden Planet is delighted to announce a signing by Chris Claremont. He will be signing his new Graphic Novel House of M: Excalibur - Prelude as well as Marvel Visionaries: Chris Claremont at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2 H 8JR, on Friday 23rd September 5.30 - 6.30 pm

The X-Man himself, Claremont is best known for the comic series that has become a muti-million pound movie sensation. Chris’ writing career spans three decades of excellence. Truly a giant of the genre, his work has contributed to some of the best-known and best-loved characters.

Marvel Visionaries: Chris Claremont is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Claremont’s first X-Men story. Claremont will also be signing assorted X-Men comics and graphic novels.

Claremont will be signing at the Forbidden Planet Shaftesbury Avenue Megastore. Offering a 10,000 square foot of floorspace and over a mile of shelving holding 25,000 products, this store will continue the Forbidden Planet tradition of hosting appearances by the greatest names in science fiction and fantasy. Previous appearances have included Arthur C Clarke, Frank Herbert, Douglas Adams, Anne McCaffrey, J. G. Ballard, Iain Banks, Larry Niven, Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, Stephen King, William Gibson, H. R. Giger and Terry Pratchett.

First post! OK, I got the dipsh*t statement out of the way.:p

Someone here may say something snarky about Planet and the Fantastic Four signing here, but let's all remember something -- Comic book writers and artists tend to be more professional in their appearances and truly love meeting the fans. I've met Chris Claremont several times, and he is a true gentleman and pro. Forbidden Planet is honored to have him.

I would attend myself, I would love to get his signature again, but I am busy with work that day. Plus I avoid anything that is only one hour long. But I am sure Claremont will sign for all the fans and I doubt anyone will be going home disappointed. Anyone who can make it, I'm sure you will have a good time and a nice memory afterwards.

I fondly remember meeting Chris Claremont at a Forbidden Planet signing years ago - he'd just left the X-Men books at the time, was doing a little work for Dark Horse, was about to start a short run on WildC.A.T.s, and kick off Sovereign Seven at DC. He was a great "show man" entertaining the crowd and sharing anecdotes.

Brian, I actually live in Howard Beach; Queens. It's like a hour to get into the city from where I live. I leave my area as NYC on my profile since Queens is part of New York City. Considering the boneheaded press the newspapers have given my area recently (about boneheads living in the area and coming into the area), I figure to prevent any ignorant rants and tirades about my choice of neighborhood it would be better to leave it as NYC in general. I'm sure you were just unaware like many people that NYC is made up of more than Manhattan; there is also Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. Take care, have a nice night though.

Um, actually I was referring to the fact that the signing is in London, England.

Sorry, I saw Forbidden Planet and due to my hubris, I assumed the one in NYC and in the US of A. Since they had been listed a few weeks back, I assumed it was them again. My error. But to quote that great American philosopher's immortal phrase: "D'oh!" :D
