As usual, previews are preceded by Marvel’s description of the issue.

Geez, how can people stand this Bendis dialogue?
"Big blonde guy?"
"OKay."
People deny he writes all his characters the same, and here we have Reed Richards pretending to be dumb and acting all sarcastic.
I just don't understand why people take this.

Avengers looks fantastic, even when they're just sitting around the art looks gorgeous. If it'll keep looking like that, Bendis can decompress the crap out of it. :)
I've been trying to pick up runaways but just haven't found a good jump on point. Now's a good a time as any I suppose.

I say "okay" about a hundred times a day, and it's not sarcastic when I say it. Reed was accepting that the Sentry was a big, blonde guy, but it didn't ring any bells so he didn't have anything to say about it.

Im gonna miss Alphona's pencils. Miyazawa' s pencils look to Marvel-Adventurish to me.
Avengers looks great as usual with McNiven's pencils. I love his two page spreads.
Sadly, I was a bit more hyped for the Sentry arc, but the 3 word convos are turning me off too.. Bendis' voice works for Cage and Wolvie.. less so for Stark and Reed, Stark's not coming across like the charismatic personality that he's supposed to be, and Reed is convincingly pre-occupied, I'm not getting that social aloofness that he usually presents when around crowds..
Nothin bad to say about Runaways though... Somebody shoulda locked Vaughn down a long time ago.. and the fill in art is great.. give that guy a monthly plz..

Along with Captain America, New Avengers and Runaways are the best books Marvel's producing right now. The previews look great!

I have to totally agree with this statement. I remeber SWARM from the Spidey cartoon and its nice to see him back.
In regards to New Avengers, Steve McNiven's art is some of the best. Regardless of what some people may think, Bendis does write a good story, unless of course I'm not allowed to have my own opinion. Looking forward to both these books.

I like Bandis' dialogue, he writes people in a way that real peopel actually talk. Real people are sarcastic, they "um" they "ah", they stop and start sentances. Bendis captures this perfectly.
His dialogue is what brings me back to all his books every month, your annoying, constant Marvel bashing is what stops me posting much on here, thus that makes Bendis better than you!

Awww, there you go Alfonso, here’s your binky. No one’s goanna make you get the big bad Marvel books with their complex stories and detailed art. It’s okay, hush… nappy time…
Bendis writes like they’re real people, well as close as you can simulate realistic dialog in a comic book setting. Would it have been better to have the conversation go like this:
“Sure you’re aware of this tower of a man.”
“Even I, Mr. Fantastic, with the intellect of that far greater than any man alive, am not aware of all things.”

I like you. Stick around and make these boards better. Please and thank you.
I'm soooo fascinated with what they're doing with the Sentry with this arc. It really feels like a good mystery and they are dealing with the return of the Sentry in a way that the solution will be different than the mini. As if they learned something from the last time or something. Kinda reminds me of that ST:TNG episode where they were in a temporal loop, but kept making progress each time to get out of it. Great stuff. Hope this comes next week ...

I suspect Alfonso would rather have had:
Tony: "He says he was a superhero, but I've never heard of him. Power on Thor's level, a big blue-and-yellow suit, the works. He says you were his best friend, and that you sent Matt Murdock to look in on him in the Raft. He imprisoned himself there after --"
Reed: "Tony. I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never heard of any 'Sentry,' and I didn't send Matt Murdock to the Raft or anywhere else."
Tony: "This is... confusing. Reynolds says he killed his wife, but she's alive. You say you've never met him, but Matt Murdock swears otherwise. Neither of you is lying, so what's going on?" etc.
Would you have any problem with that?

I put together a Yellowjacket/Wasp mini half for a class and half for fun. One of the potential plotlines (which I eventually discarded in favor of a better idea) had Swarm as the main villain, somewhat pumped up to a serious threat level.
I mean, when you think about it, a sentient, telepathic, malicious hive of bees is a pretty dangerous thing, under the proper circumstances.

Are you saying that one person under different handles feels this way, or that there are a group of people that feel this way?
Just asking for clarification.
And, for the record, I have never understood the appeal of Mr. Bendis' work. I don't typically complain. I just don't buy his books.

Even a "swarm" of ants can be a dangerous thing too. Wasn't it an amnesiac Antman that does a fairly good trouncing of the Avengers around #160 I think?
Anyway, most writers these days just don't utilize their imaginations very well. Too many street level or VERY cosmic level threats. There's many other types of vastly under-utilized threats they could be creatively using. Swarm just being one of them!

There's many other types of vastly under-utilized threats they could be creatively using. Swarm just being one of them! Or creating. I made up a pair of supervillainesses for the Black Knight to fight once specifically because I wanted to exploit a potential vulnerability of his that no established villain could.
for me... I'm loving his kick in the pants to the Avengers, which I haven't read since Stern was writing, and Dr. Druid, Black Knight and Ms. Marvel (the hot cop w/ the jerricurl) were members..
I like Bendis' dialogue.. just not coming out of certain characters' mouths. I don't expect Reed Richards to sound like you or me talkin to our buds on the street..
Not everyone talks "like real people" but then we've all got different expectations of our books, so tomato/tomatoe
after re review of the book, I'm not as dismissive of Niv's art, hell I can barely draw a stick.. not a figure, a stick... but I'm just not crazy about his Cage is all..
But he does have a knack for dramatic and dynamic layouts. I still don't see why the hate for Finch, but ah well...

Bendis' dialogue is realisitic? For what age? Are the people talking on drugs?
Person 1: Yeah?
Person 2: Yeah...
Person 1: Uhm...
Person 2: Yeah!
Person 1: No!
Person 2: No?
Person 1: No...
Person 2: Yes!
Person 1: Exactly...
The above is the kinda stuff I expect from a Bendis story, but thankfully it isn't spread across New Avengers (though theres some of it). It wouldn't be so bad...cept it's sometimes so repetitive (not only does the dialogue sometimes repeat, but characters seem to love repeating themselves and others). I eventually dropped USM after the upteenth issue in which nothing happens and PP and MJ have at least three "No." -"No?"-"No!" conversations. The dialogue also wouldn't be so bad if it were limited to just PP&MJ but when Aunt may starts in...and I think it was originally there in Powers, and DD&Foggy do it all the time as well (throw in blind lady or some of DD's villains like Mr. Owl and a lawyer). Seems as if too many of the characters are trying to be snarky, full-of-wit teenagers...
I'd much prefer dialogue found in Runaways. Gotta catch up on that series, but when I was reading vol. 1, I thought Runaways was the best super-hero book from either publisher.

1. These comic book characters are not "real people."
2. There are many types of "real people," and Bendis is making Reed Richards talk like a "real" fifteen year old defensive teenager.

Avengers looks great as usual with McNiven's pencils. I love his two page spreads.
Did you know that Miyazawa did two issues of Runaways in the first series (the Cloak & Dagger issues)? I thought those were extremely well-drawn issues.
If Alphona's gotta take a break from Runaways, it's Takeshi Miyazawa I want to see drawing the fill-ins.

1. These comic book characters are not "real people."

Dude, I no fan of Brian Bendis's writing, and I don't even know what you're talking about with this Reed Richards bitch. He's had his memory tampered with, right? He's just talking like someone who has no recollection at all of the memory these people are trying to jog.
As someone with a shitty memory, I have conversations like this a lot. While I may not be a Reed Richards style genius, but I'm pretty ____ing brilliant :) and I sound pretty much like that.

sorry but i actually find mcniven's art not appropriate to new avengers. miss finch's over-rendering, darker style. mcniven would be better off on other titles like a revamp alpha or maybe x-factor.

You mean this isn't a documentary that is happening in real time! Iron Man isn't a real guy? Well crap, oh wait, I forgot, I'm not retarded. I'm aware these aren't "real people" but I don't want to read a damn melodrama. Bendis writes in a more "natural conversation" style It's not like Reed said:
"Back the krunk off, get'n all up in my face, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME."
Then ran off and cried in his room. Just come out with it. You don't like it because it's Marvel and Bendis and you're scarded that if you don't bash it people will think you support it. To me DC books are cornball, but I don't care, people really seem to like that. Marvel takes a lot of ____ from comic fans on the boards, and this Marvel fanboy is sick of it.

I'll wait until you can figure out why I don't like Bendis, and see if you can connect that to my criticism of his dialogue abilities.
and you're scarded
I've never been more scarded in my life!!!!!

"OKay."
People deny he writes all his characters the same, and here we have Reed Richards pretending to be dumb and acting all sarcastic.
I just don't understand why people take this.
I didn't read the dialogue anywhere near the same way as you read it. Reed didn't know what Tony was talking about. I don't know that Tony's dialogue was out of character and I think Reed's responses were perfectly in keeping with what I read in the FF book.

Yeah, it's a typo. It should be "Cover:", not "Colors"...
Check the credits page, same colorist as always.
(Hope you're being sarcastic)

I'm getting back into the hobby. Can someone give me the back story on this Sentry guy or is he a new creation?

He's fairly new, but isn't a Bendis creation. Paul Jenkins wrote the original Sentry miniseries a couple of years ago (get hold of the TPB if you can, it's well worth it. It also has the crossover issues with the FF, Spider-Man, X-Men and Hulk , which make up a large part of the Sentry backstory).
It tells the story of a guy who keeps getting weird flashbacks, as though he was once a superhero, but isn't sure. None of the other Marvel characters remember him, but gradually he starts to realise that he used to be a hero called the Sentry, who appeared at the same time as Spidey and the FF. They even made up a huge cover story which was printed in Wizard and in other publications about the Sentry being an old Stan Lee creation from the 60s which predated the first appearance of the FF.
He's extremely powerful (some people have called him a Marvel Superman analogue, but I think his powers exceed Supes) and has an equally powerful nemesis called the Void, who begins to make a return as the series draws to a close.
Anyway, gradually, everyone starts to remember who he is and realise why they forgot him in the first place. I don't want to spoil the ending for you, because it's really worth picking up. Try and read it before you dive into the New Avengers story if you can, it's useful background. As far as I know, Sentry didn't make any other appearances between the end of the Sentry miniseries and the beginning of New Avengers.

I like Previews like this, MicNiven is GAWD and they made a great move in having Bachalo being the new cover artist of Runaway.

No, but there's a happy medium. I mean, monosyllabic back-and-forths can get just as tedious.
I would. I don't know of anyone who talks like that.
