<i>Press Release</i>

<blockquote>Licensable Bear™ says “I’m Back!”

Humorous one-shot becomes slow-going series

“The Licensable Bear™ comic book is back – because I demanded it!” announced Licensable Bear™ at a press conference today. In this way the cute li’l marketing icon announced that his one-shot comic of 2003 has been extended into a series, albeit an infrequent one. “As of issue two, this one-shot becomes a two-shot. And when issue three comes out, that will be a triple-shot, and so forth.”

Licensable Bear™ is a cuddly little semi-dressed critter who lives to license himself for products, appearing on t-shirts, mugs, license plate frames, and obviously comic books. His first appearance was in Licensable Bear™ #1, which shipped in November, 2003. That was followed by a short story in Wild About Comics, a 2004 Free Comic Book Day issue. Now June brings issue 2 of his own title, with an issue-length story “Licensable Bear™ Goes to a Licensing Convention”.

“I’d been hearing about how comics these days are all filled with six-chapter stories which are eventually collected into a single volume, and I figured ‘why wait?’” explains Licensable Bear™. “So I arranged six different artists to each draw one short chapter, and put all 28 pages into one single issue.” The entire story is written by Eisner Award nominee Nat Gertler, and artists involved include issue 1 veterans Rusty Haller, Filip Sablik, and Bradley Walton, as well as Ryan Estrada, Eric Erbes, and Crossgen survivor Dave Lanphear.

The story deals with Licensable Bear™ facing the sort of convention insanities that should be familiar to any comic con attendee: the badge-police, encounters with rarely-seen friends, folks trying to scam free stuff, and crazed crowds. Of course, he faces it through his own licensing-obsessed perspective. “The issue has everything you look for in a comic,” says Licensable Bear™. “It has action, humor, a guest cameo – the superhero Mister U.S. from Image’s Big Bang comic – ummm, pictures, staples, a cover… oh, and me!” Folks wanting to know more about this smiling spokescritter should head over to www.LicensableBearTM.com and read his first appearance.

Licensable Bear™ issue 2 is a 32 page black-and-white comic with color covers. Priced at $2.95 US, it ships in June. Like all About Comics publications, it is available to the direct market through Diamond Comics Distributors, FM International, and Cold Cut Distribution.</blockquote>

I loved this comic book when it came out.

I considered licensing him for an animated short at film school, but couldn't bring other crew on board. C'est la vie!

We're always adding stuff to the Licensable Bear™ site. One recent addition is the ability to make youre own Licensable Bear™ product, with a box you can print out, fold, and tape together!

If you catch me at a convention, I'll probably be distributing preprinted cards for making a little box.

Adam: Licensable Bear™ says that he wish it had worked out, it would've been cool!

Unfortunately, due to a printing error, page 20 of issue 2 (which hit shops this week) turned out ultra-dark. Since most of it was a dark scene to begin with, the result is somewhat hard to read.

A clearer version of this page, including a PDF if you want to print out, can be found at http://www.LicensableBearTM.com/issue2correction.html

Licensable BearTM asked me to post this:
--------------------
July is going to be huge for me!

Issue 4 of my annual comic book series comes out in July -- see me get involved in music, vitamins, 12-step programs, and even presidential politics! As always, my stories are chronicled by Nat Gertler, with art by a mix of returning artists (including Mark Lewis, drawing his first story about me since -the- first story about me) and newcomers.

And we're doing something cool with the cover. More on that later.

But also hitting in July is my first crossover into someone else's story! That's right, I'm doing a 3-page run in with patriotic heroine Liberty Girl, in Liberty Stories #1 from Heroic Publishing. And hey! that's a color book! Writing by Gertler, art by Rusty Haller, who has worked on every issue of my comic.

Want these comics? The best way is to tell your retailer -now-. Licensable BearTM #4, a 32-page black-and-white comic priced at $2.99, can be found in the About Comics listing on page 215 of the May Previews catalog, order number MAY07 3114. Liberty Stories #1, a 48-page color comic, can be found on the Heroic Publishing listing on page 310, order code MAY07 3516

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! July will also bring the fourth installment of my new monthly series of online videos, entitled Products that Should've Licensed Me, each looking at a product which would've been better off if it bore the Licensable BearTM brand.. What, you haven't seen the first installment? Here it is! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgH8cGUUxIE)

Awesome.

I saw that Licensable Bear #4 was coming out, but I missed the bit about Liberty Stories. Duly added!
