Karl Kerschl, who makes his debut as the regular artist on ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN (http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23743&highlight=Rucka) with May’s issue #640, has signed a 2-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics.

“There’s an emotional involvement in every page and panel of a comic that I work on, and I’ve never felt that involvement fostered as wonderfully as it has been these last couple of years at DC,” says Kerschl. “I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with [Group Editor] Eddie Berganza and [Associate Editor] Tom Palmer, who have encouraged me to take an active part in shaping the projects we’ve collaborated on and have given me the freedom to tell stories in a way that makes sense to me. We share a great affection for these characters and I plan to infuse them with as much honesty as I can in these next two years. I was warmly accepted as part of a larger team before I signed anything, and this contract really just solidifies that relationship. I’m extremely honored.”

“Since Karl came onto the comics scene, I've been a big fan,” says Berganza. “He brings a passion to his work that is evident on the page, and he's interested in what happens to the characters beyond the next fight scene. Teamed with Greg Rucka, you're really going to get a hearty book to sink your teeth into that’s both visually stunning and smart. I can't wait to see what he does with the Superman cast as he makes it his own — just check out how he modernized the Eradicator!”

Kerschl’s work on last year’s SUPERMAN storyline “Strange Visitor” will be collected in the SUPERMAN: STRANGE VISITOR TP (JAN050286). This title is solicited in January’s Previews (Volume XV #1) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on March 30 with a cover price of $14.99 U.S.

ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #640 will be solicited in March’s Previews (Volume XV #3).

A very, very talented gentleman well deserving of such a big gig.

Karl's Majestic was fabulous stuff - and a peek at his website shows the variety he has to his talent.

May i take this opportunity to wish him all the best - and that i'll be supporting his run on the book :)

I really liked his on on the Strange Visitor storyline and the Majestic mini-series that he did. I'm looking forward to him taking over as artist on AoS.

That's OK with the Supershuffle...
But what I want to know is where are Matthew Clark and Ivan Reis going to be?
As someone said already, Reis would be nice for Teen Titans...

I loved Karl's work on both Majestic and the "Strange Visitor" arc, nice to know that he now has a regular gig. I'm glad that he'll be working on Adventures of Superman, as Rucka has been doing a great job on that book as of late.

Karl's a rockin' artist and a great fit for Superman. I'm looking forward to his art on Adventures, and I'm glad to see that he's getting some stability from DC as well!

Matthew Clark's next project is a 6-part JLA Classified arc written by Peter Milligan (as reported by the Pulse). Don't know which project is first after "I Can't Believe Its Not the Justice League," this one, or the Gail Simone/Jose Garcia Lopez arc.

I think its a good move for him, Clark seemed to need a lot of fill-ins during his year on Adventures, but his style is definitely something I'd like to see more of.

I just signed an exclusive two-year deal to only post to articles about DC Comics!

Nice, this ensures stability for the creative team (or at least an ample amount). And this is also good since I was thinking of picking up the book once Kerschl starts his run.

Was anyone else trying to look in the suit to see who Ruin is?

That's cool.

Adventures is the best Superman book out there right now, and I was quite glad to here of Karl's promotion from his great work on Majestic to this book.

With Greg Rucka as one of the guys on Countdown and likely playing a big part in whatever HUGE event is on the horizon for the DCU, how can there not be big things in store for this book?

Good to see the artwork is going to match up to it!

If I recall correctly, he got his start at Marvel on the Daily Bugle B&W mini. Written by Paul Grist, of all people. A lot more angular in style at the time though. Did some issues of Tales to... Astonish? Anyway, Thor while he was in the Lee/Liefeld thing. with Drake the vampire from Tomb of Dracula/Blade written by Marv Wolfman.

Then the next time I noticed him was the Iceman 'Icon' series from Marvel. I think that was the first collab with Abnett/Lanning.
Perhaps he did some fillers here & there, I'm not sure, but then it was the Superman Strange visitor and the sequelly Majestc mini.

I have a mind like a comic encyclopaedia, but I can't remember to take out the trash...

WOW.... what GREAT news... I had never heard of Karl before the MAJESTIC limited series.... INSTANTLY fell in love with his artwork..... being older, it has been a LONG time since I really slowed down reading and truly savored artwork.... and his art made me do just that.

Rucka is one of my favorites... but I've always felt he gets teamed with good artists but never an artist with heat or who is so good, they are on the verge of breaking out. This seems like quite the beautiful match.........

Again, so happy about this. Best of luck to Matthew Clark - his art did the job but just wasn't something I dug all that much.... (sometimes his proportions seemed to slip out of whack... plus, I still have a bad aftertaste from Rucka's FELON book they did for Top Cow - that black and white art had to be some of the most dissapointing art I had seen in quite a while.... (not to mention things like character's wearing rings or jewelry or watches in one panel, suddenly they are gone in the next, and then appearing again in the following panel.... just sloppy)

Here's a link to his website:

He has checklist of everything he has done on his site, but he doesn't recommend checking out the pre-2000 stuff ;)

He's one of my favourite artists as well, and I really enjoyed his Strange Visitor-arc in the Superman books and of course the Majestic mini-series. I aslo recommed checking out the Iceman mini and X2: Nightcrawler (a movie tie-in and my first exposure to his art), Deadpool #56 and Weapon X - The Draft (Sauron)
