i have to say i REALLY like this book. i started out just one issue ago (my comic shop didn't get it til issue #4, and i had to push for that) and i due to some awesome writing, i really feel like i know what's going on.

the story: it's SIMPLE!! Alpha Flight is missing, so Sasquatch brings together a new team to rescue them.
the art: Clayton Henry rocked hard on his tenure on Exiles, and i've seen nothing but improvement here. his characters look awesome, his emotions are generally dead on, and his panel layouts are easily followed. i'll give him an A!!
the writing: it's Scott freekin Lobdell. where've you been man? Scott is writing an easily followable strory, with characters that (after two whole issues) i not only know, but love. i'll give him an A plus

Perhaps I'm coming at this from a different aspect. I was hoping for a well-written, mature storyline. What I get is pure and utter...silliness. (I have far worse things to say about the story but I'm still in mourning for Gwen Stacy and I'm trying to be nice.)

The artwork is fine. Not good...not terrible, and it certainly suits the storyline by Lobdell.

I actually think the characters are interesting, but the simple fact is that Lobdell is making the whole thing annoyingly whimsical. It's not for kids...the humour and storyline is not something directed towards children, but the writing is definitely simplistic, sophomoric and just plain fuckin terrible. (Not Austen-fuckin-terrible mind you, a different kind of fuckin-terrible.)

This arc is done at issue number 6. So am I. Too bad because alpha Flight was a title I was looking forward to for a year. It's poor. Quite poor. Not when there are great titles worth supporting.

I hope Lobdell is working from a street corner in a month, writing scripts for homeless people to beg for money food with his "clever" humour.

All in all.

D

It would be an F but the artwork saves it...some.

why buy 6 if you hate it so much?

MAKE A STAND MAN!!!

i hated the first issue... number 2 wasnt as bad... then it grew on me.

I don't know I sorta am diggin it now.. maybe because the art is getting better... a lot more consistant. I like all the sasquatch expressions.

its a fun book but it better go somewhere... it feels like it is draggin on a bit.

This one I would give a B-

'Cuz I'm a complete Alpha Flight-whore.

I wanted to love the series and wanted to give it every chance to win me over.

It hasn't.

The characters are growing on me, but it's the concepts and the potential for the characters that are growing on me, not the story or the way they are written.

Anyone know if Lobdell is going to give up on this title and someone more competent will take over the writing? You know...like a team of monkeys pounding on a thousand typewriters?

me? i'm hoping never. i'm enjoying Lobdell's run. yea, it's silly, but i'm pretty sure that's part of what they were going for. not every comic has to be mad serious. they are supposed to be an escape, and i for one am enjoying the humor

and i hope you just plain fucking die.

lobdell is great, and original, unlike the majority of the books out there now.

you're just a fuckwit. and i don't mean that in the millarworld wanted bizarro rip, but like a retard or something. you're just plain mean. i fucking hate you, and i seriously hope you're on the corner a year from now, giving handjobs for $.49 so you can buy fountain drinks from QT for you and all your hooker friends.

anyway, lobdell is the man, and alpha flight is here for at least a year, according to what i heard.

oh yeah, and die.

snah this mother fucker.

as much as i'm happy that you enjoy lobdell's work, i'm pretty sure that the rules of the board were to keep this workplace/ kid safe. maybe you could tone down the swearing?

I really keep wanting to like this in a Formerly Known as the Justice League kind of way, but it just does not have the same style or flair. I was hoping I would like Alpha Flight even more than FKATJL since I am an Alpha Flight completist, but I don't.

Why am I sticking around? Like I said, I am a completist. I am praying that this is going somewhere or that it will grow on me and I will start to find it funny. I stuck with Alpha Flight during the Bill Mantlo era so I can stomach this as well.

i don't see too many other posters toning it down for the kids, and considering that not too many kids are really into comics, and my seventeen year old brother is the youngest comic geek i know, i don't really think too many kids are going to be on this board.

any rate, i just get pissed when these loser kids have nothing better to do than insult creators on a more personal level than just saying they don't like their work. it's like all the austen bashing. i don't like the man's work. i've read enough of it to determine this. but i wouldn't ever say the world is better off without him, so he needs to rot in hell, or something to that effect. he's still a human being that's trying to make a living.

that's my point. lobdell is a writer, trying to make a living. unlike snah, who lives in his mom's basement eating ho ho's and typing on the internet.

yay. goodday!

I'm starting to like the book better bit by bit, but I definitely agree with way Lobdell is writing the team. It's not a serious book, but it's not really all that funny either. I'm also not sensing the menace of the Plodex, either. They don't seem all that interesting or tough. Frankly I preferred Seagle's Alpha Flight to this one. Hopefully the book will continue to improve after this storyline is over.
