<i>Press Release</i>
<blockquote>The New York Comic Con (NYCC) today revealed a selection of the authors who'll be appearing at its 2008 event -- April 18-20 at the Jacob Javits Center. Science fiction and fantasy scribes who'll be speaking at New York Comic Con include Danielle Bennett, Kate Brallier, Terry Brooks, Peter David, Isamu Fukui, Felix Gilman, Nina Harper, Jaida Jones, David Keck, Naomi Novik, Brian Slattery, Alissa Torres, and F. Paul Wilson. New York Comic Con is the second largest popular culture event in the United States and features Guests of Honor including Mike Mignola, Grant Morrison, and T.M.Revolution.

While a comic book convention at its base, New York Comic Con has grown to span across pop culture, and given its home -- New York City -- in the publishing capital of the world, it receives tremendous support from publishers, with exhibitors including Bantam Books, Del Rey, Disney Publishing, Dorchester Publishing, Hachette Book Group, Penguin Group, Random House, and Tor Books.

"We're honored to welcome some of science fiction and fantasy's most beloved as well as emerging authors," Show Manager Lance Fensterman said. "We know they'll meet many eager and dedicated fans at New York Comic Con, and we hope we're able to expose their words to a whole new audience, too."

New York Comic Con is organized by Reed Exhibitions, the creators of BookExpo America, the largest publishing trade show in the USA. NYCC Show Manager Lance Fensterman also supervises BEA.

Okay, I'lll give them Terry Brooks, but I've never even heard of any of those other authors, and calling Peter David a novelist is like calling my ex-wife a chef.

I don't know your wife... but Peter David has been writing novels for well over 20 years, both franchise material, like star trek books and film "novelizations", but also original prose novels, so I'd rethink the snarkiness, cause all it shows is that you are un-informed.

So, what establishment does you ex work at? :D

From wikipedia:
David has written dozens of novels, many of which have appeared on the New York Times bestseller list. His Star Trek novels are among those for which he is best known, including Q-in-Law, I, Q, Vendetta, Q-Squared, and Imzadi, one of the best-selling Star Trek novels of all time. He created the ongoing novel series, Star Trek: New Frontier, a spin-off from Star Trek: The Next Generation, with John J. Ordover in 1997. He has also written five Babylon 5 novels, three of which were originals, two of which were adaptations of the tv movies Thirdspace and In the Beginning.

His other novel adaptations include those of the movies The Return of Swamp Thing, The Rocketeer, Batman Forever, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2,Spider-Man 3, Hulk, and Fantastic Four, and the adaptation of an unused Alien Nation television script, "Body and Soul".

David has also written original fantasy works. His first novel, Howling Mad, is about a wolf that turns into a human being after being bitten by a werewolf. His novel Knight Life, about the reappearance of King Arthur in modern-day New York City, was also one of his earlier novels, and became a trilogy with the sequels One Knight Only, and Fall of Knight. His Sir Apropos of Nothing fantasy trilogy, Sir Apropos of Nothing, The Woad to Wuin and Tong Lashing, features characters and settings completely of David’s own creation, as does his 2007 fantasy novel, Darkness of the Light, which is the first in a new series of novels titled The Hidden Earth.

Egg, meet face, face meet egg.

I'm not saying I know who most of those people are, but I'd say that F. Paul Wilson is more prominent than Terry Brooks.

and calling Peter David a novelist is like calling my ex-wife a chef.

I'd assume that it means that he's got a new book coming out which he's there to promote, as opposed to being there to promote 'She-Hulk' or 'Dark Tower'.

Oh I'm fully aware of what David has published, I just wouldnt call it quality science fiction. He and Claremont litter the used book store shelves with their attempts at original thought. I looked through the other authors bibliographies on wiki and have never read any of their books, or even remember seeing any in a store, and I have been a 3-4 book a week reader since about 1970.

That has to be the dumbest qualification ever...

So simply because you don't like his books, that means he doesn't qualify as a novelist?

So I guess Stephen King isn't a novelist then because I hate his books

well bully for you...

meanwhile david's efforts have been very popular and well selling books to others.

when you have your sci-fi author con, be sure to snub PAD, but your opinion doesn't negate the fact that he is a sucsessful author of novels.

How in hell do you read 3-4 books a week? Are you retired or are they extremely thin books?

One thing Peter excels at is original thought.

Too bad you can't see that.

Have you actually read any of Peter David's novels? I don't pretend to have read everything he has written but the 3 I have read were quite enjoyable. I've read 2 of his Star Trek novels "Q-Squared" and "Imzadi" and 1 of his Battlestar Galactica books "Sagittarius is Bleeding" and the characterizations were dead on and he actually expanded upon and took concepts in new directions vs rehashing what was already seen on television. Nice blend of development, drama and humor that works for his comic writing as well. Also, the fact that he isn't limited to the 1 hour episode block with those novels gives him a chance to really go some places that would have to be ignored due to time constraints. As a 3-4 book a week person, I am sure you appreciate that not everyone has the same reading tastes that you do and that your definition of "quality science fiction" is subjective.

I don't understand your point about the authors that you saw on wiki that you haven't seen in any store? What does that matter? Wouldn't this be a chance to check out their work to see if it is for you? Isn't that the point of them coming to the convention in the first place? I guess I just don't understand your goal here. For myself, I am looking forward to walking out of the con with some novels as well as some comics.

It is very generous of you to "give" them Terry Brooks. And I am as devastated over your dismissal of my novel track record as I can be of any opinion that is put forward by someone who hides behind a fake name. Still, you are naturally entitled to your opinion.

You know whose opinion would be interesting to check? That of Terry Brooks:

"Darkness of the Light, first of a series, is another quirky, intriguing, wonderful tale, filled with adventure and unexpected plot twists. No one else tells a story quite like he does."
--Terry Brooks on "Darkness of the Light," first book in "The Hidden Earth" series

"By far the most charming and clever reimagining of the Boy Who Never Grew Up story that I have ever encountered. Readers of all ages, prepare yourselves for a very big adventure."
--Terry Brooks on "Tigerheart"

Hunh. And I wrote both of those books. Fancy that.

Gotta love opinions.

Oh--fans interested in reading "Tigerheart" should come by the Del Rey booth at the New York Comic Con Saturday at 11 AM; Del Rey will be giving away advance galleys to the first two hundred fans and I will be there to sign them.
