Also, Some Hellboy 2, Wanted and Hulk News (http://www.mediumatlarge.net/2008/03/hellboy-2-hulk-and-wanted-at-nycc.html)

2pm Saturday in the IGN.com Theatre at NYCC Universal plans a serious roll out of these three films. It should make for a great afternoon and another sign that Hollywood is hitting NYCC hard.

Sorry, I'm mogging as I wait for a flight to Belgium here at JFK so this post will be brief, link free, and full of typos, but I thought you'd all like to know the official news as soon as I did.

I'm certain Universal will bring Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones and Guillermo del Toro to talk up Hellboy 2. As for Hulk and Wanted, talent of the first rate is being worked on, but nothing that we can confirm yet, but our hopes are high!

Further proof that the studios are making a splash at NYCC? Universal will be ringing the city with Hulk, Hellboy and Wanted banners promoting NYCC from light poles all over Manhattan. Over 200 in all. Damn cool! So when you hit the big city for the con, you'll feel like the entire city is decked out to welcome you.

We've got more good stuff coming and hopefully this week. So stay tuned and remember, as soon as I can tell you any news, dear blog readers, I will!

you guys should try to get in on the myspace panel if they have one again. Last year the mystery guests were Garth Ennis, Steve Niles and Jim Lee and there was about twelve people there, so it was easy to speak to them without people crowding and pushing. Jim even gave one fan who asked about ASBaR's art the penciled pages for the next issue to prove he was done (to look at, not keep)

How times have changed. Con sketches used to be free, and only a handful of guys would charge, and even then 20 bucks was a big deal.

I'm in the unfortunate position of the people who I still want/need to get sketches from charge the sky, and I'm just never in a position to afford their (well-earned) services.

I mean, look who I'd be going after...

* Mark Buckingham
* Bernard Chang
* Sean Chen
* Olivier Coipel
* Amanda Conner
* Dale Eaglesham
* Ramona Fradon
* Keith Giffen (owed me a sketch since 1993)
* Rob Liefeld
* Kevin Maguire
* Mike McKone
* Rags Morales
* Todd Nauk (sp?)
* Louis Small
* Arthur Suydam
* Art Thibert (Last of the 90's Superman team I need, I believe)
* Ethan Van Sciver

See what I mean? And that doesn't even include the GoHs like Neal Adams, who I believe charges money to sign his credit card slips.

The rest I either already have, or don't know well enough to say I would or wouldn't.

It's fun to show people a sketch they did 10-15 years ago. Luckily I'm not so pompous I expect them to REMEMBER they did it.

Usually a quick look through my collection will soften the most mercenary of hearts, tho. (See link below)

UPDATE::

The page has been hacked by the Monarch.

I think that there will be another Venture Brothers panel as this is definitely some viral marketing. The one last year was awesome. The crowd was great despite the room being super packed beyond capacity.

Neil Gaiman at NYCC!

Here is my big announcement for the morning, Neil Gaiman will be doing an event at NY ComicCon this year! We've been working for a few months now with our buddy Charles at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund to do an event and it's finally now a reality.

We're calling it "An Evening With Neil Gaiman" and it will be his only appearance at The Con. We are going to do it on Friday, April 18 and Neil will do a reading and there may be an auction of some rare stuff as well. All of the proceeds from the event will go directly to CBLDF and it will be a ticketed event.
General admission tickets to the reading are available for $20, while supplies last. Tickets for a VIP reception are strictly limited to 100, and will include access to meet Mr. Gaiman and receive two signatures, plus a gift bag of exclusive Neil Gaiman oriented items from CBLDF, and preferred seating at the reading. VIP reception tickets are available for $500 and the reception will take place before the event begins.
Tickets will go on sale today by visiting the special events ticket page at NYCC.com and you'll also need a pass to The Con to attend the Gaiman event.

You'll have about 6 hours there..
Yeah.:(

This is complete guessing on my part and really adult swim already has let the cat out of the bag: the third season starts in june (with fat guy stuck in the internet the new show starring mc chris) which means the official announcement from the boys will be at the con and they are currently feverishly putting the last touches on the third season and moving on to the fourth.

The last blog jackson posted was with the huge cast shot from the season if i'm not mistaken?

and I can't wait to meet the guys, the show is a personal favorite. What did the monarch do when he hacked the site by the way?

Updates for this week

Go Team Venture!

Ahoy,

About a week back, New York Comic Con was hacked by some guy with a butterfly fetish. The company freaked out, and fan's got all nervous, too. Some kid calling himself "The Monarch" tagged our logo and made fun of our firewall -- Venture Industries Firewall 2.0. Well, we placed a call to Venture Industries, and they sent out two guys from apparently the moon. They poked around our server, threw out a bunch of parts, installed what looks like a toaster, and then plastered a Venture Industries Firewall 3.0 sticker on the website. The guys, with name tags that read "Doc" and "Jackson", didn't inspire me with that much confidence, but hell, we haven't been haxored since their visit.

Following the installation of the new firewall, we had a little chat…

"Dudes, thank you."
"No problem."
"Any way we can repay you for this?"
"Paying us would be a start."
"Ah."
"So, the money…"
"Look, we don't have any money in the office. We kinda used the petty cash to buy beer."
"That's cool, we'll take the beer."
"We drank the beer."
"Right."
"We can give you the empty cans to, you know, deposit."
"No."
"Ummm, what about tickets to New York Comic Con?"
"That could work. Can we scalp them?"
"Sure."
"So, the tickets…"
"Actually, we just gave the last of our tickets to Midtown Comics."
"Great."
"I could give you guys a panel at the show."
"Uh huh."
"No, hear me out. You could do a panel about internet safety."
"How is this payment?"
"There are girls at Comic Con. They love panelists. Worship 'em like rock stars."
"Hmmm."
"Did I mention the girls are in costumes?"
"Such as?"
"Princess Leia."
"Episode IV, V, of VI Leia?"
"Episode VI."
"Slave Leia?"
"Yup."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
"Okay, that works. I guess."
"Awesome."
"By the way, we created The Venture Bros."
"That's an interesting factoid. When do you want to do your internet safety panel?"
"Actually, think we could do a Venture Bros. panel instead?"
"Whatever floats your boat."

And scene. If you're kind of thick and haven't gotten it by now, Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, creators of The Venture Bros. will be coming to New York Comic Con to spread their very special kind of love. A big huzzah and kudos to our friends over at World Leaders for making this happen.

Go Team Venture!

More Guests of Honor

So busy today with all of the whirling din that is preparing for The Con that I didn't even have time to blog about the new Guests of Honor and Featured Guests we announced today.

Welcome to The Con new Guests of Honor Orson Scott Card and Gail Simone and Featured Guests Ralph Bakshi, Jim Butcher, Garth Ennis, Mark Evanier, Scott McCloud, Ruben Procopio, and Steve Rude. See all of the guests on the NYCC Guest Page.

So what will all these luminaries be doing at NYCC? Panels, signings, announcements and oh so much more. But for all the details, we hope to start announcing panels some time next week. Stay tuned on that.

Hulk Smash!

Ahoy! Universal just sent over this art of The Freakin' Hulk. Awesome, no? This was the first time I've seen an actual image of the incredible dude, but I've been told it's been out for a few days already. Either way, it's awesome.

What kind of Hulk Out is Universal throwing at 3 PM on Saturday? You'll have to be there to find out. Or maybe, if I get a nod of the head, I can spill some more green beans.

(Look, I thought "green beans" was funny.)
