....for The Thing. He is a weakling among the othe Marvel powerhouses. They should also go ahead and give him the ability to change back and forth. Who else in the Marvel universe needs a power upgrade? The Torch probably.......

actually i like the fact that the thing is weaker then some of the other power houses in the marvel universe. this is something that has helped mold his character through the years, at the begining he may have been one of the most powerfull on the planet, but not for a long time now, and this is what make him great.
ben grimm is the "heart" kind of hero, he is big and he is tough, but he isnt the strongest. ben grimm survives fights because of his willingness to keep going when there is no other choice, when he has nothing left to give in a fight he will reach deep down and find the strength to go on.
look at any of his fights with the hulk, the thing knows that he is no match physically against the hulk, but he fights anyway.
a perfect example of this is the old MARVEL TWO IN ONE story with the champion. the champion came to earth and challenged its heroes, it was pretty much "fight me and win or i destroy the earth", alot of heroes stood up to this challenge. many of them were equal to or superior to the thing.
WONDERMAN: stronger, more durable, superior to the thing and yet he lost due to his fear of death (at teh time simon williams was undergoing a psychological problem involving his "death" and it effected him in combat situations, even though he was stronger and better then ever)
THOR: lost because he was not allowed to use his hammer in the fight and would have changed back into don blake after sixty seconds. thor would have been a good opponent against the champion but due to the rules, thor could very well have been the reason tha earth lost.
THE HULK: disqualified because he was basically just a brawling beast, not a real combatant so the champion sent his away.
COLLOSUS: got his ass beat.
i cant remember who else was in that fight but in the end it was ben grimm that saved the earth, by taking a sever ass beating. the champion beat him down and the thing just stepped back up to fight. the champion beat him down again, and ben grimm just got back up. it got to the point that grimm was basically lying down on the mat talking smack unwilling to give up. the champion saw this courage and left the earth, stating that any world that could give birth to a man like ben grimm was worthy of existance.
ben grimm won because of heart, and his unwillingness to give up under extreme circumstances, especually with the whole world being on the line.
i say keep the thing weaker, its his heart and his strength combined that makes him a hero.

i shed a tear.
but seriously, F4 is one of the most, if not THE most, powerful team in the marvel universe, just look at their villians, they dont dont need to change anything about them.

I think that as long as Marvel is making big changes, it is finally time to let Ben Grimm change back and forth. Imagine what kind of story lines that could come from that? Go ahead and make him stronger or add some other kind of mutation but give him the ability to turn it on and off like the Torch. I'm telling you, I would love to see this change. After 40+ years, I think it's the least he deserves.
Here's how it happens: After Reed is found out to be a Skrull and the Heroes win the Invasion, they free the real Reed. He says that since all he had to do while imprisoned is think, he's finally figured out how to reverse the process for the Thing. When he does this, there's a power surge and a flash but everything seems to work and the Thing is now just plain old Ben Grimm. He's happy as can be and goes about his business for the next couple weeks. Then the FF gets attacked and beat up and Ben feels helpless and starts wishing he was the Thing again. Tada...Not only does he transform back into the Thing but this time he's the Super Thing thanks to the surge. After he whips everyone's butt, he turns back and from there on out he's got his new power and a limited series to boot!!!

Well said. I think there's too many comic book characters that are all power and no heart and the Thing definitely has heart.

i have to admit...i'd like to see the Thing be able to change back and forth, maybe for five, 10 years.
i understand that there is some tragedy involved with the character. i do.
but for the life of me, i've honestly never understood how his mutation had such a tremendous physical impact, while the rest of the crew looks just fine.
i mean, look at the U-Foes. they're jacked up physically too, for the most part, from the exposure to the cosmic rays. but Reed, Johnny and Sue -- hell, they could retire tomorrow and live right next door, and you might not even notice.
