Title Waking up on the wrong side of the Universe pt 1
Lets make no bones about this, the Catwoman comic is one of the best books out on the market today, yeap nearly as good as a certain Patriotic Star Spangled Avenger over on the other side (and that book is sheer Brilliant) but lets not go there shall we ? We are here to humbly give praise, or vigorously criticize DCs’ Catwoman comicbook.
Firstly I want to talk about Will Pfeifer. His work, personally speaking has been so easy to understand, so easy on the mind, so uncomplicated, so simplistically Awesome, and yes, so masterfully wonderful. This is how our books should be written, this is how they were written once, and perhaps that’s the key to this book, perhaps this is a nostalgia trip that we are all on, (those that are reading that is) and we just don’t realise it. Perhaps we will only recognise how good it is/was along with the wider Fandom community, when DC gets round to revamping the title, and cancelling it. I hope to God they don’t, but who knows eh? All good things come to an end don’t they?
Well lets review this issue shall we?
Catwoman has been transported to ‘Hell Planet’, as seen last issue. Hell Planet is a place where elements of the U.S Government have sent some of their most dangerous and unwanted paranormal villains, ( Read Salvation Run its great ) and the Suicide Squad were authorised to capture Catwoman. Now, she is marooned on a far distant planet with heaps of her old enemies around her, including,....... Lex Luthor, who steals the show in Catwomans own book.
Selina fights several of her old enemies including the Joker, before deciding, or having the decision made for her to join up with Luthors’ gang rather then the Jokers’, a wise decision as it turns out. Anyway Luthor has ingeniuously figured something about the planet and discovers a ground floor hatch leading to an underground bunker where he sends Catwoman and the Cheetah down to investigate. At this point I want to stop and suggest that this storyline could have been played out a bit longer for everyones,
(Readers) enjoyment. A further 1 - 2 issues longer would have been nice, its very near to the end of the story at this point, the pace of the overall tale is a wee bit fast for my liking, but still, it works very well. (Contradicted myself there haven’t I?)......
Catwoman & Cheetah have discovered a machine and somehow with the guidance of Lex Luthor turn it on, typically Cheetah decides to forego her alliance with Lex and makes good her escape. I’m a little unclear whether she actually makes it back to Earth or not, but one thing for certain, Catwoman does, and lands back in Gotham City where she comes Face to Barrel with Batman holding a Gun to her head ??????????.... (bizarrely same scene at the end of CountDown# 16)
Batman says ominously, and I quote,
‘’ You Committed Murder. You Killed Black Mask. Did You Really Think I’d Let You Get Away With it ‘’
Give it a rest Bats plez !
I really loved this book, and I’m going to take the unusual step of giving it 10/10 for overall enjoyment and continuing to entertain me for so long.
Thank You………
