I don't recall Cap and Impulse/Bart ever meeting, honestly. Now that he's dead, I doubt it'll ever be brought up.

Cap might know, however. Ashley Zolomon, wife of the current Zoom, was told by the first Captain who Owen's biological mother was, and she put it in her final report on the Rogues War. In theory, Cap could have come across those files himself, or someone like Waller or Flag (who definately read the files) could decide to tell him.

Don's dead, and we don't know how Owen came to be. Maybe he was born cause Bart's mom was on the rebound from Don's death, or Cap met her and she had Owen long before Bart was born.

Flash #224 (July 2005). While Wally, Zoom and the original Reverse-Flash were battling on the Cosmic Treadmill through time, Boomerang (from a prior timeline) got caught up in the chronal discharge and was dumped in the future with amnesia. He was found by a shadowy woman, presumably Melanie, who he later had a relationship with.

Not sure how he and Owen got back to the present ....

What's always bugged me about this plot twist was no one ever explained were Cap Jr got his speed from. Bart got his speed from his dad, Don Allen, not from the Thawne side of the family. I don't believe any Thawne ancestor of Bart's & Meloni's has been shown to have super speed, except for the Reverse Flash (and I'm not even sure if it was said that he is a direct ancestor of Bart).

So, Captain Boomerang + a woman with no connection to the speed force = a kid with some super speed. Riiiight. Maybe DC dropped the storyline when they realized it didn't make sense.

Maybe Meloni Thawne was related to Jaculi from "Jihad", a group of villains from Suicide Squad. Ironically, Boomerang Sr. killed the first one (and Deadshot the second).

Well, that depends on how closely we are talking. Remember that almost everyone on Earth comes from a small group of people who became isolated from the rest for a long time. If your parents are both from the same region then it won't be too many jumps back before you find a common ancestor. Think of how many Asians are descendants of Genghis Kahn.From what was said in this thread then maybe Don and Melanie were distantly related to some people from our modern time so it sounds sort of like incest, but over the centuries that genetic material gets diluted and spread around.

Well, the thing about Bart is, yes, the Thawnes are 1000 years removed from the Allens, but because of the time travel Barry Allen did to the 30th century, that 1000 year gap is only on one side of the family. So it's still pretty incestuous.

Hasn't it been basically shown that the Thawne and Allen bloodlines are basically one and the same?

Malcolm Thawne AKA Cobalt Blue is Barry Allen's twin brother.

Which makes Reverse Flash a Cousin many time removed from Barry Allen. Melonie Thawne is theoretically a descendent of the Reverse Flash. Which may be why her recessive "Speed Gene" might have reacted with Don's dominant "Speed Gene" and caused the quick aging side effect (which was not manifested in Bart's cousin Jenni AKA XS).

Given the fact that it's okay for second cousin's to get married and have kids, it is probably okay for cousins removed by 10 centuries of generations to get married and have kids.

Other way around. In many Earth cultures, cousins can marry, but because they are from Krypton where it's forbidden, they can't be together.

In the story, Supergirl, after watching a movie, decides that Superman isn't going to propose to Lois or Lana and so it is her duty to find him a wife. She tries to secretly get him to propose to Helen of Troy and Saturn Woman of the Legion before admitting what she's doing. That's when he says the above speech. Then she tries to find him someone just like herself, and she does, on an alien planet. Unfortunately, the yellow sun of Earth would be poisonous to the alien girl, so they can't be married.
