Before anybody starts flaming me for promoting more DC comics, hold up,

while i am enjoying 90% of all the Countdown comics and tie in's and mini's.

None have impressed me as much as keith champagne's ARENA.

At first i thought it was crap, just a big smash fest for the sake of it, fighting for the sake of it,but i was wrong

but the plot is genious. and all the different fights were well played out,

Spoilers: Monarch has a genuius version of a blue beetle who makes device that can travel between universes, This device is left with all the heroes who believe that blue beetle is helping them, really he is working for Monarch, They send out breach to get all the other versions of himself to bring back to fight Monarch, but these are all versions of Monarch anyways, it was his time saving plan to get them all there in the arena, so he could kill them all and absorb all their power, now he is ten times more powerful going into Final crisis to fight the Monitors and the Rest, oh the bald headed superman has ____ed up special light powers!

even some of them blue beetle's grew on me

and the art grew on me,

check it out, for real,

PS. i hope DC gives champagne more work, i understand he doing some Flash and Atom fill in.

The thing is, I kinda feel the story would've been better served as a one-shot.

In my mind the story did one thing, state how powerful Monarch was and show how clever he is. To be honest he's so far ahead of the game that I couldn't imagine him having much of a problem defeating most anyone including SBP (or SMP if that's what we call him now).

I kinda agree,

The story served as a Great showcase for Monarch and his power.

But the story and characters were fun and interesting.

Is it bad for me to want to see Armageddon 2001 redone with the Captain Atom reveal leading to his trouncing of the heroes? :(

If Monarch is that powerful why does he need to build a team of heroes? If that was a dodge to make him even more powerful by absorbing the other Captain Atoms, does that mean he will ditch the team of heroes he created?

I actually like ARENA. Just finished #4 earlier, and though I was a bit disappointed with that issue, the first 3 are actually pretty good.

The art, I never liked it at first, but grew to. Sometimes though its still confusing.

This mini made me grudgingly hate Monarch. He still got a cool costume though.

And to think I was 50/50 picking ARENA, but now that I did, I dont regret it at all. Just wondering, how will Monarch fair against Darkseid? I hope they will come face to face soon.

What if Zoom got his hands on him?

Sorry, but I trust in The Mighty God King (http://mightygodking.com/index.php/2008/01/07/its-like-youre-six-years-old-again-except-not-as-much-fun-2/).

However, I do enjoy Monarch's rise to power, most especially anticipated in the next Countdown issue. Brilliant Art, brilliant characterization!

I loved it,

but countdown is just a brand.

I think of this as ARENA, and monarch shines in this mini.

Alright, I do admit he's far more badass than he used to be. Though the art made him a little too bulky in ARENA, it was good to see him withstand the power of three of the Universe's greatest weapons.

I guess DC is reasoning that if Doc Manhattan could have Godlike power, so could his New Earth counterpart; only difference is, he's a Blood-And-Thunder type.

As I said, Monarch looks beautiful in next week's Countdown Previews. Honestly, his story thread is perhaps the only one worth buying the title for.

This was by far one of the better limited series to come out of countdown. I really grew to love it because of all the different types of superheros out there and also because Chris Kent was badass.

also I know this has nothing to do with countdown arena...But I was kinda sad to see Bob meet his demise.

I didn't like the rampant slaying of alternate reality characters. It's exactly what I feared would happen if you start recognizing alternate Earths.

Sorry to bring this up but did anybody check to see if there were actually 51 versions of Captain Atom trying to take on the Monarch? Secondly while with some of the Cap Atoms is fairly easy to tell which world they came from did anyone see the Wildstorm equivalent of Cap Atom. I don't have my issue with me right now and those queries were bugging me while I was at my job today.

I didn't care for the art in arena. Too loose, like Bryne without a good inker.

I just read Champagne's All-New Atom issue. It was really good. I'm rallying a support for anything Champagne puts out at DC right now. His GLC arc was pretty much the best thing the book has seen since Recharge. I didn't check out Arena because I haven't really been following anything Countdown. I knew it was Champagne though, so I might still have to check it out.

I'm patiently waiting for Champagne's ongoing DC work. It will be here soon, I hope. I need a monthly Champagne fix.

He's doing Radioactive Hamsters, right? I might check that out as well.

Keith did an interview last week that suggested he's writing some kind of Batman/Joker project next. Should be awesome.

I'm driving the Champagne bandwagon!

exactly. the old multiverse wasn't used as cannon fodder
With so much death in the multiverse, I can't see it lasting

exactly. the old multiverse wasn't used as cannon fodder
With so much death in the multiverse, I can't see it lasting

the old multiverse existed solely to bridge golden age, silver age and modern (maybe bronze) age settings together with other then recent acquired properties. the current prime universe in the DCU does that without the need of vast multiverses.

the "other multiverses" that had the crime society and weird versions of other heroes were set up to be fodder for COIE. Besides, there's been constant talk already that Champagne set it up that (like the multiverses from COIE) the alternates aren't permanently dead.
