Since the book is currently out, who here actually owns it? If you do, what is your assessment/review?

As I said in a previous post, I bought the book at Barnes & Noble. It is very comprehensive and thoroughly researched. It's a lot of fun to read and look at. It's in chronological order and chock full of pictures from the comic books, newspaper strip, the movie, busts, toys, posters, trading cards, advertisements, etc. The paper quality and picture reproduction lends the book weight (I mean that both figuratively and literally).

Frankly, I'm a little surprised that I bought it because I'm not a huge spidey fan by any measure. I like it because it appears to be definitive and supports the author's thesis that Spider-Man is a culturally iconographic figure.

This is a must have for anyone who is a Spider-Man fan and if you are not a Spider-Man fan, I suspect that this will make you one. I'm quckly becoming a convert because of this book.

Of course there's a Santa. Check out http://www.spiderfan.org/comics/images/marvel_treasury_edition/013.jpg. St. Nick does appear to have a slight skin problem, though.

I'm getting "Forbidden."

I bought it from Amazon, but haven't had a chance to give it anything but a quick skim. It appears to be done in the spirit of those Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman books with the Alex Ross covers that were done for DC. I don't know how it compares quality-wise, but I do like books of this type (historical perspective on an element of pop culture), so it was a no-brainer for me to buy.

I'm sure it'll be a fun read. I've never known books of this type to be "bad." Usually, they turn out to be a mix of little factoids I didn't know, a whole bunch of stuff I did know, and then the inevitable author's mistakes where he says something, but I know better.

Not only have I bought it, but had it signed by Steve at his Heroes Aren't Hard to Find appearance! I love it! It's taking me a while to read it though, because I spend more time than I should, just looking at the toys on each page, going,"Oh, I want that! I HAD that! I want that! I HAD that! ......"
Sweet Christmas, I love it Steve! Thanks again Brother!

The book seems to be doing pretty well, though I'm not going to be a New York Times bestseller any day soon, I'm afraid. Not unless a few thousand people all read this and decide to take pity on me, all at once.

If you guys want to see more about the book, take a look at the official web site at http://www.spidermantheicon.com/. The folks at Titan really did a nice job.

In addition to "do you have the book," I'd like to know "where did you get it?"

I got the one of the Previews limited editions signed by Stan Lee from instocktrades. I spent a couple of hours the other night just looking through it, and I've gotta say that it's a really great book. It's obvious that a lot of time and effort was put into it, and I'm really impressed by all the work you put into it, Steve!
