Other than numero uno being a certain Saga involving a goblin. I always enjoyed re-reading Spidey Unlimited #3 where Jacob Conover is writing an obit for Doc Ock, who meanwhile is on a crime spree. The reasons as to why Ock is on the crime spree really hits me bellow the gut cause I never saw it coming and it made Ock's character so above other Rogues because it made him more human.
Which leads me to the opposite end with Web of Spidey #90 which is just an insane issue with Spidey vs. Mysterio who throws every wacky thing at the wallcrawler. I mean we get all three Goblins attacking spidey then Venom and then Galactus.. and for the finale.. Venolactus (Venom symbiote possessing Galactus). It's just over the top fun and while the story is beyond hokey it's freakin Mysterio. So it makes sense!
After that come's the Revenge of the Sinister Six which I think is probably my fav of the Erik Larsen stories with pretty much every good guy in the Marvel verse (save for the Avengers and X-Men) vs. the Sinister Six (an Adamatium armed Ock, Electro, Vulture, Macendale Hobgoblin, Mysterio, and a new sixth member).

Two of my favorite Spidey villains are Sandman and Hydro-Man, so it's no surprise that I really like their first team-up where they accidently combined to form the MUD-THING!!!!!
It's got something for everyone: action, romance, drama, superhuman law, pop culture references, and so much more!

That's always been a favorite of mine too.
Death of the Hunter goes without saying.
And honestly? Maximum Carnage. I know, it's all flash and no substance, but dammit, when I was 13 it was freaking awsome.

Kraven's Last Hunt is such a good story. I was so happy when Marvel launched its Premiere hardcover series with it...although I wish it had been an oversized hardcover. It's just so good.

Ok and now my all time favorite the moment where you know was coming. Come on like the Hobgoblin Saga isn't the greatest Spidey tale ever? The building of an arch enemy who tries to do something with the weapons of one of the most deadliest foes Spidey ever had and uses them in ways the Green Goblin never thought possible.
Not to mention unlike other foes the Hobgoblin always knew when to flee and how to escape. And when it finally came for him to be finally revealed it was by not just Spidey's hand but Betty Brant's as well with help from Spidey's entire supporting cast with an assist as well. And again when has the entire supporting cast ever helped Spidey deal with a rogue? :D

My favorite...I don't know. I enjoy a lot of the stuff overall. But I guess one is the one with Spidey versus Juggertaut.

Seconded. So much psychology went into the Spidey/Juggernaut fight, and it really summed up everything Peter Parker was about. A lot of friends and family always ask me, people who aren't really into comics but want to be, if they were going to start cold after having never read a comic book before, "What Spider-Man comics should they read?" I always direct them towards that fight and the first trade of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN. They're both so good.
Also, MAXIMUM CARNAGE seemed awesome when I was a kid because it was my first Spidey story, but I recently went out and bought a copy of the trade since I hadn't read the stories in years and never in its entirety and... Wow. This thing really fell apart over the years. Did not hold up very well whatsoever.

Reign is my favorite Spidey story. It had everything and is the best Spidey story I've read in years.

That was Harry, from beyond the grave. He set the "fake parents" plan in motion before his death, and that was a videotaped message.

My favorite single Spidey issue is Amazing Spider-Man #223. Spidey has a classic tussle with the Red Ghost and his Super Apes. Plus he defends a bookish classmate from being picked on by his peers. This story helped me, as a kid, see bullies how they really are. I grew up a little bit after I read that book.

I love the stuff DeFalco had before that with the Electro/Return of Doc Ock Sagas he had prior to the Black Tarantula stuff.

Kraven's Last Hunt, Spider-Man: Blue, and the issues around the late 220s where he fought Juggernaut stand out.
I really got into Deadly Foes of Spider-Man and Lethal Foes of Spider-Man when they were realeased. Kinda cool to see the villains as the main focus.

That new sixth member was an alien thing that Kraven knew, right? Gog or something like that... I have one issue of it. My favorite Spidey story, out of the few I've read, is an arc in Spectacular Spidey where he fought Vermin and the Harry Goblin. It really explored why Vermin was Vermin and how screwed up Harry was. One of my favoirite moments was Spidey telling Harry to kill him if he wanted to, just stop doing what he was doing. Great stuff.

"The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man" is definitely one of the best.
"Spidey Strikes Back!" from Amazing #19 is awesome--it's the story that got me hooked. And the Master Planner stories from Amazing #31-33 blew me away.
Loved Spider-Man: Blue. And Peter David's Sin-Eater stories in Spectacular #107-110.
Don't forget the stories Frank Miller illustrated in Marvel Team-Up #100, and Amazing annuals #14 and 15. Miller perfectly caught the original Ditko sense of mood and detail. I always loved his Daredevil, but I think I loved these issues even more.

Actually, I don't own the hardcover. Not because of a lack of interest, but because I own the comics themselves, having bought them at the time they were released. I'm a bit of a rebel (Throwback? Luddite?) in today's marketplace. I like the "floppies," or "pamphlets." Those are what I bought back in the 1960s, at Walters Newsstand and Harry's Superette, and they're what I buy today.

All of my Hobgoblin stories are in the comics themselves. I have complete collections of Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099 , the other regular titles, and a gazillion of the offshoots.
As I said in another posting, the "golden age" of everything is supposed to be twelve, as in, your favorite story is probably the one you read when you were about that age. Now, I'll admit that my favorite issue is the one I first bought, Amazing Spider-Man #19, if for no other reason but the line of dialogue, "He done cracked up! Naow he's singin' songs! UNGHH!"
But there have been a bunch of terrific stories since then. So I must be an example of arrested development (pending trial). What about you guys? How old were you when you read your favorite storyline?

Character yes your quite right. The Goblins (Roderick and Norman) and Shocker where the first Rogues I ever saw in a Spidey book and where taken in by their malious deeds and crimes.
I don't remember my age.. other than how I aqquired my comics. It was on a vacation to Wisconsin. Dells. Given the fact that we had no walkmans, portable video game systems, or portable tvs (this being the early to mid 80s) on cars my parents decided to garner my attention the trip back to IL.
At the resturant where we had breakfast there was a newstand that had three comics. I remember picking said three (Amazing #275, and two issues of I think was called Marvel Tales aka reprints of old Amazing Spidey stories).
My parents tried this trick numerous times and I still have most of the Spidey comics they gave me when we went on long trips (The Vulture, Grey Hulk, some Web of Spidey issue with a dude with a sickle.)

I love just about every issue from AMAZING 1-200, but AMAZING #121-122 is my favorite Spidey story ever. I started collecting with #141, and actually paid FIVE DOLLARS for a back issue (#122) a few months later (cuz it was referenced so often during the end of the Jackal/Gwen Clone saga, I had to see what I'd missed!), which drove my parents nuts! We had the deaths of two major characters, the totally revenge-minded Spidey going all-out trying to find the Goblin, even ignoring the pleas of his drugged-out pal Harry, and a thrilling final battle with a terrific ending; but it's the final page that pushes it to the top for me, where we get our first poignant glimpse of the Peter/MJ love affair to come. Just great stuff...
I also loved the two major 2-part battles with Juggernaut, then Firelord. Both showed Spidey at his most determined best! I especially loved how the Firelord battle started when Firelord just wanted a freakin' pizza! :D
I loved the Hobgoblin Saga, too, but it went on way too long (we were subjected to no less than THREE "unmasked" covers (245, 251, & 276) before we got the real unmasking!) and by the time he was "REVEALED!" in #289, there was only one person left who he could possibly be (the Kingsley retcon never rang true to me, even though Hobby's creator wrote that later tale). So there was no suspense when we learned Ned Leeds was the baddie, especially since he'd just been killed off in a completely unrelated and lame way in that WOLVY VS. SPIDEY special. We were left with a non-resolution: A second Hobby (Macendale) flying off to fight another day.

Ok, I know I've answered this before on here, and this probably won't be the most comprehensive list, but here goes, off the top of my head...
Kraven's Last Hunt
Spidey vs. Firelord two-parter
AMAZING no. 16 - Spidey and DD vs. the Circus Of Crime (I first read it in Marvel Tales when I was a kid and loved it)
Spidey, Silver Sable, Sandman vs. Sinister Syndicate
AMAZING no. 100-102 (six-armed Spidey, Morbius, Lizard)
Deaths of Gwen and Captain Stacy
Death of Harry Osborn
You know what? I've mentioned a couple of the DeFalco/Frenz stories already, but I'm just gonna go on record and say that entire run was my favorite. I honestly can't break it down to just a couple of stories from them. I loved ALL of it.
AMAZING no. 36 - the 9/11 issue. I don't care what anybody says, it was a beautiful story.
SPIDER-MAN: BLUE also has to be included here.
The Green Goblin, Venom, and Doc Ock arcs by Jenkins and Ramos.

just mentioned this in the "images" thread -
Amazing Spider-Man #33
Master Planner/doc Ock app. "The Final Chapter" Possibly the most powerful Ditko storyline ever! Aunt May's time is ticking away in a hospital bed and Spider-Man has to get the antidote to her with no time to spare. However, after a battle with Doc Ock for the precious serum a ton of mangled steel lies on top of our hero, making escape seem impossible...until a determined Spider-Man reflects on his powers and questions his worthiness of them.
Great sequence that marks a real & lasting change in the Peter Parker character
