"One For My Lady... ...One More for the Road."

We are finally delivered the final issue of X-Treme X-Men and I'm excited that I know longer have such an inconsistent to have to pick up 4 issues of a month. My love/hate with Extreme X-men has always been that it's capable of so much more. Both in terms of story and art. The loss of Salvador Larocca was a devastating hit and I thought his replacement with Igor Kordey would be the final nail in the coffin, but this is the little X-Book that kept chuggin. Despite it's hit or miss performance it has always sold well and is only ending to have it's plot lines continue next month in Uncanny X-men.

This issue wraps up many of the lingering plot threads from the series begining and does provide some closure. There is a welcome return of continuity with the X-Treme Teams reaction to Magneto's assualt on NY from the end of Morrison's New X-men. We see powers back for Gambit and Rogue (?), a reunion with Storm and Angel and touching on some lingering guilt over Psylocke's death, the return of Rachel Summers as Marvel Girl, and the return to the school of the X-Treme team.

I welcome the continuation of the X.S.E. plot line started back before the Storm: the Arena arc. This and Bishop's future time line have always interested me. I like Rachel being back. I like the teams coming back togther. I like seeing Lockhead, even if it was only for a couple of panels!!

I don't like the ease by which Sage just "reactivates" Gambit. This was just to convienent. And did she do the same to Rogue as well? I guess we'll have to wait for Uncanny. I don't like the (and I'm NOT trying to be derogatory here) costumes that look like they are out of a gay leather bar. Honestly, these look like costumes from a Saturday Night Live sketch. I can't believe they've been going for as long as they have. The return to "spandex" costumes is one WELCOMED by me if it means we'll never have to see these leather costumes again. I don't like the art and never have Kordey. I've tolerated it for the whole run he's done, but I can't for the life of me tell Rogue and Kitty apart half the time.

The biggest problem with the book is just to many characters, plain and simple. Not even taking into account the ones who weren't featured: Lifeguard and her brother Slipstream, Thunderbird II with no mention to wether they're alive or dead.
This was just a convoluted mess of a series, but at least this issue was a step towards correcting this time in X-men.
