Wow. He nailed it.
Yes, I realize this is just a preview of the first few pages of the highly-anticipated new X-book, but damn, any doubt I had about what Joss might do with the X-Men are gone.
The book starts off with Kitty Pryde returning to the X-mansion, remembering her experiences there and some of the foes they fought. She remembers standing on the stairs, holding mistletoe over Peter one Christmas ... and that's when I knew everything was going to be ok. Joss gets the X-Men. It isn't just about the fight for equal rights and the latest clash with the big bad, it's also the smaller human moments that made the book what it is. And Cassidy's rendition of that moment looked like it was lifted directly out of the original story drawn by John Romita Jr.
The rest of the preview left me wanting more ... Kitty popping into the assembly late, Cyclops saying he was even bored with the speech he gave, Emma just being Emma (and in charge!) and no one knowing where Wolverine was.
This book is going to rock.
(I'll hold off on a final grade until I see the final issue, but we're in A+ territory so far).
