"Notorious"

Abnett and Lanning (DnA) continue to dominate the quality of comics even if, unfortunatly, it's not reflected in the sales. This issue helps to wrap up several of the subplots that have been percolating since Legion Lost and the begining of their five year run on this great book. We are finally treated to the full on return of Singulatiry (last seen in Legion Lost and Legion Worlds) as he commands the Credo that have captured RJ Brand and the United Planet's envoy mission to the second galaxy. Only the ultra powerful Mon-El returns, in a shredded costume, to warn of the immenent threat. The Legion then head in FULL FORCE to confront the Credo forces. We are treated to Mon-El sporting his classic costume here and while cool, I still hopes he returns to his updated one in the futre, but man, for that group shot: does it ever look good! Even better is seeing the classic Mon-El flying alongside the Legion's newest member Superboy. Mon-El telling Superboy "Not yet, old friend!" It is just to cool for words and I thank DnA for these last five years.

The art by Batista is excellent. Crisp and detailed with expressive characters and consistently accurate costumes. The previously mentioned group shot of the Legion invading Amshana in the second Galaxy is epic. I was so scared when Copiel left for AVengers, but Batista has been a consistently reliable replacement.

The only negative thing I could say is that I wanted a full out brawl of Singualrity's Credo and the Legion, and that doesn't happen. Realisticly though, it wouldn't think that if they were there with that many cosmic powered characters that they would leave with out there friends. They had Ultraboy, Mon-El, SUperboy, Cosmic Boy, Star Boy, Kid Quantum, Brainiac, and Wildfire! I just really wanted to see some punches thrown, but there's only one issue to go after this and they have alot to wrap up. This issue and series is recomended to anyone who loves superheroes, I only hope it will be apreciated in the future more than is has been in the past and the present.

Grade- A

Next issue will be the last from the Abnett, Lanning and Batista team. It promises to be an epic finale with the Legion fighting the Credo. This issue was a good set up for the ending.

While the art has been hit & miss since Olivier left this series, the writting by A & L has been a blast!

This 2nd to last issue just seems to packed for it to be neatly wrapped up next month.

(anybody know who the new creative team will be next?)

You heard right, Gail Simone, the terrific writer currently on Birds of Prey is taking over Legion.

old news now to some, but, yes, Gail is indeed taking over the writing of the Legion.

Just too bad thy're cancelling the book 3 issues later. :(

While this comic hasn't been as good over the past year as it was during the Legion Lost heyday, it has really come back on for me. I'm going to miss Abnett & Lanning's take on the Legion.

It's really too bad that they're cutting Chris Batista loose. He's a great talent in need of a good showcase. Maybe he can land a higher profile book for his job.
