Finally.

Finally we're getting a climax to this two-year long arc. I liked this "Lord Of Earth" saga in the beginning, got bored to tears in the middle, and now that we're inside the last (five issue) arc of the tale, I'm getting enthused again.

This was quite a good issue, as it seems that now it's all coming to a head - a final standoff between Thor, his "family," his actions and the raging Desak: Destroyer Of Gods.

*SPOILERS*

*AHEAD*

Thor has not the time nor the self-reflective capabilities to thoughtfully answer his son Magni's questons as to the "righteousness" or lack thereof regarding his takeover of Earth, nor does Thor ever pick up his hammer when offered from Magni to prove he is "just."

Desak descends onto Asgard and just opens up and empties out a mean can of badass/kickass all over the Asgardians, Thor and Magni as well. I mean he just tears into them - awesome.

Loki plots, waiting in the wings....

I'm thinking that in order to prepare Thor for the new direction in #80, all that has happened in this title over the last few years and what is transpiring right now is going to somehow be "erased" or "reset."

And that's not always such a bad thing, in my opinion. See, right now in Thor's book, anything can happen. And from the looks of it... things are gonna get real bloody heavy, real bloody fast.

If you like watching heroes hit the ground hard, now's the time to start reading Thor again. Seriously. Oh, and the art was quite decent as well. My only complaint would be that this is still part of a storyline that I thought dragged on just way too long.

GRADE: A healthy B-

I agree with damn near everything you just said.

The best part of this series was when they nuked Thor and attacked Asgard. Brilliant. Since then it has lost some momentum. Seems to be picking up now, though...

In all, this reminds me of a longer "Future Imperfect" but for Thor. That's a compliment, by the way.

Glad I read Jenkins' work here, but I am also looking forward to Oeming.

Think they'll bring back Odin?

Yeah, I'm eagerly awaiting Thor's return to Avenger/superhero/midgard-visitor supreme, and from all indications it seems like that's where they'll be taking him now.

And as I stated above, I'm really digging the end to this saga, it's exceeding my expectations... I think some (more) heads are gonna roll before it's all said and done.

As far as the return of Odin?

I don't know. But I do know that I like the Thor comic most when he spends time on both Earth and Asgard equally (Simonson). And how will he do that comfortably if he must constantly "lord" over Asgard?

I'm interested to see exactly how much of this arc is going to be erased, and what, if any of it will have lasting repercussions.

I valued this issue as well. Nice, gruesome drama. No frills. A true violent wake-up call to the much-needed end of this storyline. If anything, this is for certain: the happenings in Thor are going to explode, implode, receed or completely dismiss. And I truly hope it's not the latter.
