RETURN OF THE NATIVE PART 2

WRITER: GREG RUCKA
ARTIST: DARICK ROBERTSON

Its that zany Weapon X project that rears its ugly head again.Rucka takes his shot at the far too prevalent Weapon X project.Sabretooth has managed to get Logan to accept an assignment that has link to his mysterious past. I am sorry, but Logan mysterious past is extermely uninteresting for me, so Rucka's newest story already has a strike against it with me.If you like dialogue this isnt the book for you because there is little to be found here,Darick Robertson is the primary storyteller here and he does a great job as usual, I am not a big fan of his Sabretooth but that is hardly a deterent from enjoying this issue.I would say that if you are a fan of Rucka's Logan then you will not be disappointed but for me at least this wasnt very entertaining. I couldnt escape that been there done that feeling with this book and no sense of suprise or amazement throughout the entire issue. My grade for it is a C for Xtremely average.

This issue was a little too skimpy on content, but I still think that it's much better than the title has been, ever. Wolverine's solo book has always read like the red headed step child of the X books, and it finally feels like someone has actually nailed Logan's characterization.

This issue was a little weak, but I liked the last page, and also what Logan found in the natives cave, great storytelling by Robertson there.

I'd give it a B-

Great art, great story-telling. This issue just seemed a bit short to me, though. I think this should have been a lot longer, and was written like this solely for the TPB. It's a shame too, because this is the best Wolverine has ever been. The last page has me very intrigued indeed, but i smell some "Wolverine's inner animal" coming along...

shit I didn't even see this thread. My take.

Publisher: Marvel
Writer: Greg Rucka
Penciler: Darick Robertson (Why the hell do they have him listed as Darick Robertson on the cover and Robinson in the credits?)

Rucka has been doing a great Wolverine, amazing job really. I think he's stumbled here though. Evidentally this is Rucka's last arc? I didn't think it was so soon, but I guess all good things...

Anyway, I don't see any problem with using Sabretooth in his finale. I always loved Sabretooth What I do see a problem with is adding more on top of the landfill sized past of Wolverine.

Am I the only one who is at the point that they need to just seal the deal and do a full story about him learning his past? Why keep adding more to it, its so convuluted and confusing due to retcons and such.

The story, Sabretooth last issue recruited Wolverine to find some animal. Of course, this animal is the only project to escape from Weapon X. Yea...like I said...convuluted past. "Native" turns out to be a female Wolverine basically. He's poking around in the woods, they meet up, she goes into a rage, she shanks him with her own claws and then runs away.

Logan manages to find her hideout. Another problem I had here. He finds some stuff she drew on the wall of the cave about her escape. There's pictures depicting both of them. He also finds a box of some stuff, dogtags also. One set, Wolverine's, the other set, Feral? Yea...maybe Rucka just managed to forget about that one, but don't you think any of the editors would've said, "hmm Greg, you think this would confuse people about Feral from New Mutants?" Well anyway, she catches him at the cave, jumps him, they rage out and fight. THEN, they stop, finally understanding each other...and start making out. I really like Rucka's work, but come on...

Darick's art is good as usual. So really no complaints in that department. Other than stuck with drawing a female Wolverine

I really hope Rucka can close up this arc with something final. Not more of the Wolverine's past stuff to throw on the pile.

I gotta give this book a C, the story is just a "groaner" if you will.

you got some good points, but i dont agree with everything you said. i completely agree about the thing with Wolverines past, but at least Rucka is doing a good job with it. And the whole making out thing? i think what Rucka was trying to show was the animalistc nature of the two characters.

and yes indeed, this is Ruckas last arc. make way for................

Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.!!! Damn i cant wait for that!

That's just it, he isn't really doing anything with his past other than throwing more onto the convuluted pile. I mean he isn't doing anything bad. I just don't think this is a good way to go, regardless if its his last arc or not. And them making out...how long has it been since she brushed or flossed...

I jumped in for the first time with #12 and liked that and was glad I preordered the next few issues. I also enjoyed #13 and was looking forward to this one.

But I didn't find enough meat in this issue, breezed through it in about five minutes, and I was still very hungry when I was done.

The story isn't doing much for me, and while I like Robertson's art in places, particulary his landscapes, Wolverine and that native babe look rough to me.

I'm enjoying both the artwork and the story in Wolverine The End better than this continuing series.
