CABLE & DEADPOOL #2
WRITER :FABIAN NICIEZA
PENCILER:MARK BROOKS
INKER: SHANE LAW & CHRIS STEVENS
PRICE $2.99
I am very big fan of Nicieza, and the little that I have seen of Brooks has made me a fan of his as well. But this issue did nothing for me. The story centers around a cult who seeks Utopia by having all people look alike, basically turn us all into Smurfs.Funny premise that comes from the writings of some social philosophers.
In this issue,Cable was in the driver's seat and Wade was just the passenger which rob the book of a lot of its funny.I came into issue expecting to laugh and was disappointed. The troublemakers, because I cant really call them villains are called the Spammers. They are a trio, who consist of GO-GO, a punk girl,Sauerkraut, a german activist, and T-5, a young brother with a dream.
I must say that Nicieza has a knack with younger characters, they have a real personality to them.Too bad, that same level of charisma didnt come out in the two leads. I really felt like Cable was just going through the motions, a couple of pages show his take on the Spammers, but I wasnt drawn in by any of it.
I think that Nicieza has an understanding of these characters but it may take a little time before he can balance two strong and different leads into one strong book.
Brooks is excellent, if you are a fan of Luke Ross, then you will be a big fan of Brooks. His Cable is a vast departure from the Soldier X issues, so if that the Cable you want then dont bother picking up this title. While Deadpool fans can rejoice because this is Classic Wade. The art does make this more of a Deadpool book than anything else, which makes you wonder how this will change when Patrick Zircher takes over.
I honestly believe that the purchase of issue one is required to fully enjoy this book, so my grade is a C.

I enjoyed the issue.
Yeah, you needed issue one to enjoy it, but isn't this a mini-series? I thought it was, but I keep getting it wrong everytime I say something is a mini or maxi series.
This is slowly making Cable one of my favorite characters again. I used to love the guy back in the day and tried to get into him with he had his own series with Igor drawing him; but just couldn't get into it. This was the Cable I know and love.
I can see how if your a Deadpool lover, this issue wouldn't have as much zing as the first; but I like Cable; so this issue was more my speed.

This issue had it's ups and downs for me. I like the to interactions between Deadpool and Cable but the over all concept left me wanting more. I am going to stick around for the next issues but if it doesn't get better I cant say I will want to throw down three dollars for issue four.
This issue gets a C-
cheers'

I really liked the art in this and the last issue
Extreemly "cartoony" yet the artist definantly has a strong grasp of anatomy, to keep it from becoming too cartoony.
last issue people complained was too weighted on Deadpool, so that's why he shifted the focus more onto Cable, which if that's how the format is gonna be on this book (a shifting focus btwn the 2 characters along with a shifting tone) it will suit me just fine.
Overall an outstandingly mediocre read

i am really enjoying this book. althoug it is only whetting my appetite for nicieza's and liefeld's x-force series. the best bits as usual were the ones with deadpool. but the cable parts were interesting, they're really making him a straight man for deadpool.
B+

Firstly, Xaraan, as far as I know this is billed as an ongoing, not a mini (wrong again blue man!). Ya know, I can't help but think you'd fit along well with this blue man group-esque cult, eh? *shifty eyes*
Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed this issue. I saw Mark Brooks at the Atlanta Comicon last weekend and shook his hand and thanked him for helping bring back the badass Cable I knew and loved. This issue showed more of him in action with his growing control of his powers. And come on, *SPOILER*
I dunno how hard I laughed at the "blow my mind" BLAM "Well, you told me to" then the same later in the issue, there's just that tiny little smirk on Nathan's face as he says "Don't make me laugh while I do this." Man, just classic.
I for one hope that there is more interaction between the leads in the future, but I think this is off to a great start. Cable is a longtime (second) favorite character of mine, and Deadpool has quickly and recently become a new fave.
This story definitely has an introductory feel to it, and I hope the second arc will open up for more exploration of the depth of these characters individually and together. The art is simply fantastic, and it's great to see Cable as a kick ass and take names tough guy instead of a decrepit old man again. I give it: B- story, A art, and a B+ overall. I think this book has a good start and incredible potential.

I loved the art, too bad Brooks is now gone. The story was okay but I really liked Cable in this. I just got back into comics and I wasn't aware that Cable had such powerful pychic abilities. I thought Deadpool was great the few times you got to see him. I wonder if Deadpool is going to use the Facade Virus to fix his face (this has been bothering me since issue 1, where's his image inducer?). I'm enjoying the book and will at least continue through the first arc.
Grade: C

Just picked up #2 today. I thought last issue was better, definitely more of Wade needed for comedy value. As with LoveForHire, I didn't realise the extent of Cable's powers. The scenes where he 'blows Wade's mind' were top rate, I think this title could really work. I will give it a few more issues.

I heard somewhere his psychic ablities got amped up when he was cured of the virus (freeing up the brainpower he'd had been using to stop its spread), but I could be wrong

I thought this issue started out well with a good examination of the Spammer characters, but got really choppy and even kind of weird after that. Was it really established that these people would just randomly murder people like that? And the way Cable found them -- a little too convenient, and even forced at times?
And I'm still trying to nail who Nicieza is portraying Cable to be. I think we were supposed to believe that perhaps he cared when he encountered the one dude dying in bed, but then it seemed like maybe the look on his face was merely cause he didn't want to get his hands dirty. I liked the "don't make me laugh as I do this" line, but other than that, I'm not warming up to Cable like I did with Deadpool in the first issue. But then again, maybe that's the nature of their personalities.
I think they were reaching for some laughs with the Yao stuff, but it didn't work for me. I agree that the "blow your mind" thing was hilarious, but it did make me kind of wish Deadpool was around more, because his scenes were the most enjoyable to me.
What was the point of Cable's phone call to the reporter to get information? It didn't add to the story at all, besides the humor of her drool. Perhaps it was just a set-up for the scene later when Deadpool got to tell her that her "boyfriend" was a "bit tired?"
I love Mark Brooks' art and will truly miss him on this title. I'm with Army Monkey -- enjoyed him a lot in Atlanta, and I hope Marvel puts him on some key titles toon. But I will say, I enjoy his superheroes a lot more than the way he draws normal humans -- sometimes they seem like they're out of proportion.
Pretty good issue but not great. And not quite up to the standard set by the first issue.

My sentiment also.
But that is enough to stop that. #2 is my last issue.
I love both characters, love Brooks art, even liefield covers are funnies. But that's it.
