Marvel Comics
$2.99
Brian Michael Bendis
Alex Maleev

As good as the book has been recently this issue was even better. And the main reason for that is because we get to see Matt back in his "union suit" for the first time in a long time. (This should please Moonbeam to no end. :) ) With the help of some friends Matt begins to pull his life out of the downward spiral that it's been in since Bullseye killed Karen Page. We finally begin to fully understand the reasons for Matt making all of the wild and rash decisions that he's made over the past several months in the book.

I especially enjoyed the scene between Matt, Luke Cage & Jessica Jones. I loved their reactions to Matt being back in his DD suit I loved the dialogue. I never realized that BMB could be inject so much humor into his stories.

And the scene with Matt & Foggy was priceless. I don't want to ruin the little joke for those of you who might not have read it yet.

But the best scene had to be the next to last page when DD, Luke Cage, Spider-Man & Iron Fist showed up to take on the yakuza punks who were planning another attack on Matt. I can't wait for the next issue!

The art by Alex Maleev was perfect for the story once again. Usually Alex's style isn't my cup of tea but it just fits so perfectly with BMB's storytelling. While I wouldn't like it on something like the FF or Spider-Man I think that it's great on DD.

Final Grade: A

I think Maleev might be my favorite Daredevil artist of all time. I initially was put off by his art, but everytime I read a Daredevil issue I like his work more and more. He does and amazing work with textures and his style sets the perfect mood for this book. I like what Bendis is doing with the story, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much without Maleev's artwork, I think.

As for the writing, I think this is the most consistently well structured story with the best character development Bendis wrote since Alias. Bendis is telling a very human and realistic super-hero story that has its somber, slow-paced moments and spikes of very entertaining fanboy-pleasing action moments that fit very well together. The page with Daredevil, Spider-Man, Cage and Iron Fist was just too cool and promises an exciting #60. Great cliffhanger.

I also think this book deserves an A.

I agree about the art 100%.

At first, I was kind of put off by the art. It just seemed so different.

Now, I can't imagine anyone else doing the art for this book. It is just incredible work.

I can't wait for issue #60.

I'm up in the air about the art. It definitely has a gritty dark mood to it, and that is kinda cool. (And though Moonbeam may be happy DD is back in uniform, she still wouldn't go for Maleev's art). I do think that Maleev does some Awesome covers for Daredevil.

The writing is of course great. Was a cool turn in the series and looking forward to the scrap next issue. Also wondering where he will take DD after this arc.

The last page bothered me, Foggy is sitting with Milla and she is wearing nothing but a cami and some skimpy panties.I could see her wearing a robe but that is just ridiculous. Mila may be blind but Foggy isn't.Besides that it was another magnificent issue.I was shocked that Maleev actually did some explosive action. It was a welcomed suprised.

Foggy has gone for some of Murdock's ladies before. The red-headed Irish photog, Gloria, comes to mind. And he was hot for Karen Page when DD first hit the stands.;)

Best issue of DD in a while, (Not that BMB's run has been bad). Great standout issue.

Once the Bendis run is complete, I'll be dredging up all of the issues to read it as one. I have a feeling that I'll be blown away.

Holy crap, can this run get better?

I have just recently checked out and read Daredevil: Yellow by Loeb/Sale and Guardian Devil by Smith/Quesada, and suddenly Bendis is incorporating all their stuff brilliantly. And he is bringing in all HIS titles (Alias, The Pulse, even Secret War, to an extent) too. Could this be the begining of a New Marvel Continuity? I am not a big continuity guy, but if Bendis makes up a good universe and has his characters interact well, God bless him for it.

From here I am betting Bendis takes Matt thorugh the 5 stages of coping: We have already seen Denial and the beginning of Anger; which leaves Bargaining, Depression, and finally, Acceptance.

Mr. Bendis, you sir, are a fine writer. I was a little disappointed by the end of USix, but this more than makes up for it.

"I'm Daredevil."

Brilliant.

Well, since I was specifically addressed ...

Matt Mudrock’s career as Kingpin reaches a boiling point this issue, and it more than redeems the earlier meandering in this arc. The book opens on a sequence with Agent Driver and his new partner. It’s got potential to be a downer, but instead it’s a tense opening story salvo from a writer who is an expert at keeping you on the edge of your seat. Then we flip to Ben and Matt and Foggy and are powerfully reminded that the events of Kevin Smith’s run are not only remembered by Kevin Smith. That sequence and the one with Milla give us new insight into Matt’s actions and are touching at the same time. The conversation with Cage and Jessica is just great, and it’s nice to see Cage and Matt speaking as friends again. Jessica’s characterization is equally top-notch. I love how Bendis pretty much has complete control over the characters making up DD’s immediate circle, because it lends the book a great feeling of immediate continutity. But more than anything else in this issue I love the ending. This is one of the best endings to one of the best issues in recent memory, and the art is at an all-time high, proving that Maleev is really on when he wants to be. The full-page of Matt and Milla is perfect, and that page near the end is a classic. "Actually, I'm just here to use the bathroom." This is what a DD comic should be, and it’s one of the best issues this creative team has ever assembled. Get it now, it’s a classic!
