i am seeing very to reasonable possabilities as to why ray palmer is so important during the countdown.

1. after identity crisis, the atoms wife went monkey nuts crazy and became the new eclipso, involving the spectre, destruction, war on magic, ect.
we see that eclispo is involved during the countdown, she looks as if she has something to do with mary marvel. could the reason for the search for ray palmer be to deal with eclipso? the last we saw of ray's wife, pre-eclispo was in arkham, wanting ray back. could the return of ray palmer be the key to releasing jean lorring from the eclipso curse? this doenst sound universe threatening, that eclipso could be a threat to the multiverse. unless she wants to bring veangance across all realities, and if mary marvel is involved, then eclipso already has started out strong in her quest. if mary marvel is at full shazam level powers, how many hero's on the other earths have the power to deal with her, especially if she has eclipso in her corner? of coarse the mary marvel aspect of this plot could be something else, that once ray returnes and brings his wife back to sanity that the eclipso curse goes into mary marvel.

2. ray is outside of the natural order of things, ray dissapeared before the formation of the hew earth and the multiverse, where ever he was, could he have been excluded from the changes and now changed himself, if it was just a matter of shrinking then the new atom and his gear would be of great help, but its ray palmer specifically that they are searching for, have we even heard the name "the atom" i dont believe so, i dont remember hearing that they need the atom, the need ray palmer. something happened to ray palmer that makes him perhaps unique and therefore important to what is going on. im thinking that his value is greater than just simply being an expert onm shrinking and sub atomic universes, something that happened from the end of identity crisis to now has made him very important, and i think that since he left the normal confines of the regular universe, he changed when the rest of the universe changed, just not in the same way and whatever way he changed it now has an effect on what will happen.

Ray is important because people finally cared about him when Ryan Choi took his place.

Ray is important because DC decided that he was.

Seriously, they literally said it in the first issue.

Fixed it for you.

Well in Theory there is a Magnetic Universe that would be hooked to multiverse and there is onlt two ways to get there. One is the shrink yourself past a point of shrink or something like that or to open a portal to the Magnetic Universe. Well that's all I could understand of it anyways but I do know that this is a real life Theory. But I'm hoping that's why their after Ray Palmer.

Because Ray is the DCU's most important scientist?

he's important because the All-New Atom doesn't sell and it's hoped this will drag the readers back?

so DC can make Identity Crisis relevant again.

Maybe it has to do with who pulled Eclipso out of her solar orbit "prison" ...
