Publisher: Devil's Due
Writer: Brian Augustyn
Artist: Mike Miller

Anyone familiar with the Dungeons & Dragons will probably know Dragonlance. I've read some of the books, not Legend of Huma in particular. Which is why I thought this comic might be interesting. I know enough about the character and the mythology, but hadn't read the actual story.

I know sales on this book aren't spectacular, but I'm hoping that if Devil's Due finds this book successful enough, they'll branch out into different Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms stories. Who wouldn't want to see a Dark Elf Trilogy comic :)

I wish there were more fantasy books, especially with the impending demise of Crossgen :( Gotta say, it ain't Greg Land, but I really like the art on Dragonlance. The covers are gorgeous. They evidentally have a different artist for each cover. The dragons, doesn't get any better than the that! Miller does a great job with the characters and fantasy creatures. And I can't wait to see more dragons!

Imagine a the greatest knight and hero possibly ever. Everyone in the world knows the "Legend of Huma". Well for those of you who don't know Huma and Dragonlance. This is the story of his origins and his time in an order of knights known as the Knights of Solamnia. The setting is in a time of war, the Dark Queen has waged a war on mankind and the knights are in a precarious position, with the tide swinging to the Dark Queen's army.

Huma is a man who is unsure of himself and his abilities as a knight. Not really what you'd expect from a legendary hero. I like it, he is very human. He isn't the invincible hero who goes charging into battle and slays everything in his path and comes out unscathed. He is a man who has the ability to command and has great judgement. You can see the traits, unfortunately his insecurities are prevalent. He rescues a renegade minotaur, manages to befriend a silver dragon, and in a fight while riding the silver dragon he wounds Crynus. A fearsome warrior who rides the deadly black dragon known as Charr. All around him, people have faith in his judgement and in him. He just can't see it for himself yet.

We're seeing a lot of buildup, obviously in his character, but also in whats soon to come. A great war involving Takhisis the Dark Queen and mankind, the treachery among the Knights of Solamnia, even an old childhood friend of Huma's returned. I'm really looking forward to the coming issues. In fact, I believe this series started out as a mini, and Devil's Due decided to make it an ongoing.

If I were to rate each issue.

#1 - solid B. Good story, I thought it was a little rushed. Huma rescues Kaz from a band of goblins. Now Kaz is honor bound to Huma until the debt is repaid. I really liked how the Knights of Solamnia and the minotaurs are similar when it comes to honor. Even though the minotaurs are the evil enemy to those fighting against the Dark Queen's armies.

#2 - A. Huma fighting Crynus while riding dragons. Nuff said.

#3 - B. Pretty much more buildup in the story. Huma see's a vision of a wolf like creature (something he saw in the first issue, I didn't realize this until I read this issue for the second time). The draconians are introduced for the first time and so is his old childhood friend Magius. Meanwhile his new friend Kaz is being grilled non-stop for information about the ogre armies that he deserted.

And like I said earlier, the art is really good. Just can't get enough of the covers, or Miller's dragons :) Even though this is a monthly ongoing, this particular story would have to come to an end at some point. I'm hoping they do these types of books in volumes. Maybe we could see the story of Lord Soth.

I have Son of Asgard :p Guess I should do a review on that next? heh

Honestly, 1 is good, but 2 was the best of the bunch so far. Overall, art and cover art. I love that cover.

OK, Issue 3 is out now? I havent' seen it yet. Pimpin early GF?

Anyways, I love Fantasy, it is my favorite genre and what I want to right for a living, so I'm probably biased.

This series has been B so far to be fair I guess. But I hope it does well enough in sales and trade sales to warrant more.

I hear DBPro is working on adapting some Robert Jordan stuff as well. I would love to see them continue to bring more fantasy to us. They do a good quality book.

Would love to see them bring more Dragonlance and some Forgotten Realms stuff as well; maybe even a little bit of the Justicar from Greyhawk. But I'll be happy getting Jordans New Spring story next.
