Writer- J.M. Stracynzski (sp?)
pencils - Gary Frank.

This book continues to amaze me. While I don't want all my superhero comics to be this realistic, I think it's great that we get books like this. I knew nothing about Squadron Supreme before reading this, but this book has quickly become my favorite. The art from Gary Frank is absolutely stunning, and he really shows off Hyperion's power in this issue.

It seems like JMS addresses everything. Like what would the government do if Hyperion turned on them. And what happened to 'Doctor Spectrum'? Both of these are answered in this isssue. Before writing this review, I read it again, looking for flaws. But to no avail.

This issue also is a huge turning point in the life of Hyperion, and for everyone in the book as well. The powerful, powerful (but yet creepy, in a way) ending left me begging to read the next issue.

The verdict: A+.
Buy it!

note: this book came out last week, April 7

I really like this book as well, but I do think that JMS should give us a little more of the "other guys". I really do like Gary Frank's art, but some of his faces lol.

I know atm JMS wants to focus on Hyperion, but we've only had a little look at the other guys compared to Hyperion and Spectrum.

If I was giving a grade, I'd have to go with an A as well though.

I also really loved this issue, the whole worst case scenario scene was awesome. My only concern about this book is the pacing, I really wish this was a book that was published every 2 weeks.

yes although this is a stylishly written and drawn series it is also a shining example of the so-called decompressed style. With that said JMS uses the pacing to a cinematic effect and it works well when you read issues in clumps.
I am culling some titles (due to buying a house) and SP will be relegated to the TPB division. I suspect it will read better in a collected form anyway.
It's a fine work!

actually, ED, a lot of the people who boght the first trade were a little bit miffed that the story didn't have a clear 'arc'.

Most trades give you a complete story, and while the trade of the first six issues does give you a story, lots of people who picked it up didn't like the fact that didn't have a clear resolution.

I think this reads much better in monthly format, than a trade, although maybe after the next collection, we will have more feedback on it.

I am just hoping that Marvel decided to go the Hardcover route with this title. I would pick that up in a minute!!

This issue gets an A+ from me for the last page alone. Nicely done.

I love that this series is actually going somewhere. I mean I love the regular old comic titles, where nothing permenant happens and the characters never age and all that. But it is nice to have some books out there that simply tell a story from beginning to end just like it could unfold in the real world.

It's a very-well written comic but the pacing is far too slow.

This book gets better with each issue. I give it an A.

Can things end well for Hyperion (or the Earth) at this point? Is it possible that this is going to take the course laid out in the previous Squadron Supreme where the Squadron take over the world? Ahhhh! I'm so hungry for the rest of the story! What's Doc or Blur or Nighthawk or Angelfish (the name I'm giving the fish-girl until she's 'outed') going to do?

Great writing and art.

**** four stars!

I find that I actually like the slower pace for this book. MAkes it seem just that much more real as it reads more at a pace that is consistent with real time...

Whilst it was another quite good issue, I have to agree that the pacing is a little slow. I know JMS is going somewhere with this (unlike Jones's Incredible Hulk it seems), but the wait to see the other guys is starting to get to me. Still, nice end to Hyperion's manipulation by the government, even it was pretty predictable a few pages into the book.

Typically good artwork from Gary Frank but the coloring was a little bland for my liking.

Solid but not stunning. B-

This story rocked. I was all over the way that story was structured -- a retelling of events. And I loved the imagery of Hyperion looking for those people in the government who had duped him. The art is phenomenal. I agree with your A+!!

Hi BM,

yeah I take your point. I re-read the issues and, generally, agree with you.
It sure is a classy comic though, eh?

This issue was magnificent.

The art is vivid and the flashbacks surreal, it's a treat for the eyes as well as the mind.

I wish there were a few more asides with the other characters *AHEM* Power Princess, but hey, you gotta love the slow and elaborate story-telling.

This is almost a masterpeice, but I'll reserve full judgement until I see how they handle P.P.

Along with Rex Mundi this is my favorite title being published right now.

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said about this issue. Yeah, I want to see more of the other characters, too, but I have a feeling that JMS will get to that soon, and when he does finally get to it, it will be well worth the wait.

Story: A
Art: B+

This is a great book. The only criticism I can muster is that the editing is poor. We gets looks at Whizzer and Nighthawk and then nothing. Either their sub-plots should have been continued consistant or, the approach I would have preferred, focus on Dr. Spectum and Hyperion. If Hyperion had not known about any other "people like him" (Whizzer) his confrontation with Spectrum would have been even more dramatic- here he thinks he's alone then he meets another one who is in many ways his opposite. Once that arc was over JMS could have brought in more characters. As it is it's great but it could have been tighter.

because I liked this series so much I went and found their last collaborative effort, "Midnight Nation." Very good book there.

Anyway, I love this series. It is certainly in my top ten titles.

I, too, find the wait to see other characters to be nerve-wracking, but then again the story of Hyperion to this point has been stellar.

I can't wait to see the outcome of the little... surprise at the end of the last issue.

When is #10 coming out though? I think it was supposed to be this week, but it's delayed for some reason. It would be great if we could get issues more frequently of this title.
